Count me as one of a diminishing number of "coronavirus response" skeptics. My vantage point is that of a working-class person (service manager in an auto repair shop). My state of Virginia has joined the growing number of states that has ordered its citizens to remain in their homes except for essential reasons, and a shutdown of non-essential businesses until at least June 10th. The good news for me is that auto repair is classed as an essential service and I have enough diverse skills to make me the kind of employee who will be the last to be laid off.

fta: " If I were an ambitious leftist trying one more time to get socialized health care across the goal line I couldn't plan it any better: intentionally throw tens of millions of Americans out of work and deprive them of their health insurance.
But what about COBRA? (That's the law that allows you to keep your employer-sponsored health insurance when you lose your job.) Duh! You still have to pay for it. With no income. The $1,200 of promised money I am supposed to someday get from the government is not enough to cover 1 month of my premiums. Unemployment insurance? Medicaid? When people’s backs are to the wall and they have no choice and no other way, they will accept socialism. "
For all those howling "We have to do as we are told, otherwise disaster!! " I say doing what we are told now is almost certainly disaster. As brutal and heartless as it sounds, no, 2 million or even 10 million deaths are not worth destroying the lives of 300+ million people, and that's just Americans. What about the billions of people around the globe who rely on American industry, capital, and expertise? If you don't understand that, I'm sorry.
I didn't vote for Fauci. I didn't vote for Birx. I voted for TRUMP. I am writing him a letter. I encourage everyone else who loves this nation and her people to do the same.
Mr. President, end this now!!

Agree with the author completely. Every years thousands of Americans are killed in traffic accidents. If the government required us to never leave our house there would be no traffic deaths. Is it worth it? Life involves taking chances.

Good article, my thoughts exactly on people in government are excited as hell that they finally have a chance of total control and power. Government hates free markets and free people.
My guess is very shortly Trump will shut this coup attempt down. He gets the big picture.

Americans have already failed the test, allowing themselves to be frightened under their beds, seeking safety at the price of liberty and prosperity. Now they show an acceptance of central economic control by government decree, seizures of private property without due process or compensation, and the abuse of law to address a government declared emergency.
We once had a Constitution; now we have what government allows us...government at all levels. And I suspect the great surrender is far from over.

I think that Trump and Pence have both had enough of the ghoulish duo and their glee over how they are wrecking the nation. Those two need to explain why thanks to their pushing panic, more people in the past three months have committed suicide than have died from corona virus. These two are loving the limelight, and the fact the media is taking every word they say as gospel.
The theory that this could all have been bio warfare has been strengthened by the news that the FBI stopped a couple of Chinese agents who were supposedly delivering samples to a Lab on the West Coast or Atlanta or something like that. They had vials of CV and our old friend SARS. They got stopped from setting this loose in America, and they just decided to find another way.

NY is not as devastating as the media and Crazy Cuomo wants you to believe. Nurses are staging hysteria for the cameras. So please explain, why aren't the beds in the hospitals full. They aren't. People are starting to take pictures of empty beds and nurses and physicians are told to go home. This is very sad. It's time that President Trump comes forward and explain what is really happening. He also needs start opening the economy back up by ordering Federal Workers back to work. If you are that frightened then stay home and go on unpaid leave. Also, CDC was anyone infected by the virus and dies of something else not related to the virus to be counted as a coronavirus death. This is CRAZY.

My local Walmart shut all of its doors except the main entrance. People have to walk through a line constructed of shopping carts taped together so no one skips the line. I wondered if the goal was to force people to walk six feet apart. If so, it didn't work. No one has yet been tasked with enforcing the six foot rule, but there were more police there than normal. The six foot rule is stupid in a place like Walmart, and it seems to me that distancing happens naturally whenever people are in public places anyway. At least in cities and towns not as large as America's city. I'm done with going to Walmart; I'm one of those people who get really irritated when something doesn't make sense yet people try to make me believe it does.

Common sense will tell you that the Chinese Communist Corona Virus is going to run its course throughout the USA and the world. Before a couple of months ago that corona virus was generally unknown outside of China and it appears that the Chinese Communists wanted to keep it that way for as long as possible. They knew that as long as the virus remained unknown to the world, that after it was biologically identified specifically that it would take medical scientists months to come up with effective medical diagnostic tests to determine if individuals are negative or positive for that specific strain of virus.virus.
In essence the Chinese Communists now know how to ruin the US and most of the world’s economies. The next step for China is now to start supplying the USA and the world, earning big profits, with all sorts of medical equipment, ventilators, masks, other personal safety items, and you can bet pharmaceuticals. It is now being reported that the Chinese Communists also purchased huge amounts of pertinent medical equipment all over the world and had it shipped to China before other countries became aware of the seriousness of the virus to their populations.
In contrast the ignorant politicized so-called mainstream (liberal) US news media is blaming the President for not having ensured that at least 350 million effective corona virus tests were immediately available, along with trained medical personnel to administer those tests, so that every American could be immediately tested for a new specific strain of virus that medical science, outside of China, did not know existed more than a couple of months ago.
No matter the consequences the President is going to have to open up the US economy, and it is for sure that he understands that.

One might add that even though many hospital beds are empty, routine medical care is no longer available in many places. Scheduled elective surgeries (knee replacements, cataract surgeries....are being canceled. Office visits to physicians are now being done via teleradiology. Physicians lacking basic ppe are having to see sick patients in clinics without being able to protect themselves. It is a mess.

Medical staff including nurses are being laid off because they have no patients coming in. I ordered groceries online for the first time. I am not standing in a line in front of Walmart for an hour. We applied for the PPP loan. When the bank received our application, they said we would have to apply online---but their online system has not been completed. The infections are spread by touching something with your hands, then touching your eyes, mouth, or nose. At work, we all go through the same doors, touch the same door handles, etc. To me, it would be better to address cleaning surfaces and handwashing so this, or no other colds or flu, spread, rather than shutting the business down. I see all the procedures Walmart is taking, distancing, but I haven't seen them ever clean or oil a shopping cart.

I wonder if Trump is on the verge of "letting go" Birx and Fauci and replacing them with someone who will be more reliant on a "herd immunity" approach. We are definitely on a precipice, and Trump's back is against the wall. If he continues to follow Birx and Fauci, this country falls. If he charts his own course, I believe a surprisingly high number of people will follow.

Old sick people die and careless people get sick, let's destroy the country.
I guess it is hopeless to look for a network level effort like the reporting that O'Keefe, treehouse and Judicial Watch do. No one on the right has attempted to provide an alternative to the MSM since AM radio. I guess we will just fall apart and be corralled into smaller and smaller groups till we wake up as the new Japanese in camps dusted off from the last great rat, FDR. Or someone launches against the filthy chinese communists now. That's the last thing that could happen, but I've been seeing a lot of last things that could happen lately.

I've been telling people this for the last few weeks. Trump is in a no win situation. He's in a damned if you do, and damned if you don't situation that the media and the demosluts will jump on at every turn. The country needs an end date to all of this. Not a maybe by this date which is always two weeks longer then what the doctor's called for before. This country needs to get back to work virus be damned. Precautions can still be put in place at most places of work that can control the spread of the virus, but life has to move on. Trump sought the advice of the experts at the beginning, but now the experts have taken over and are controlling the situation. Trump has to grab control back from them immediately.

#16 - I appreciate your spirit, alas it is one of the exceptions that proves the rule.
In the meantime Texas law enforcement is apparently now tasked to stop and turn back travelers from Louisiana. Protests? Law suits? Any public reaction? I may just want to get to Arizona via I-10... There’s that pesky 14th Amendment, but who cares as government can apparently suspend the Constitution these days. Keep that in mind when the Obama2 administration declares an “emergency”. That’s what I’m talking about.

China, not being happy about the tariffs President Trump put in place, intentionally releases a deadly virus knowing it will spread worldwide. The result is the destruction of the strongest United States economy ever. Hilary-lover Dr. Fauci declares a National Shut Down is essential, bringing America to its knees. Does anyone else have a problem with this?
