With all the time many of us are having to spend away from work and school, at least we can now squeeze in a few minutes to fill out the 2020 U.S. Census. We did ours the other day. On the plus side, the government website is user-friendly and fast. (Snip) But now under “white” you are asked to be more specific. Says Uncle Sam: “The category ‘White’ includes all individuals who identify with one or more nationalities or ethnic groups originating in Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. French, Iranian, Slavic, Cajun, and Chaldean.”

The census website is tricky. If you don't fill out the (in my mind) non-essential boxes and click submit, the website won't allow you to proceed. However, if you hit it a second time, it will allow you to proceed.

Why the Trump bashing at the end of the article?
IIRC, most of those intrusive questions on the census forms can be ignored. By law, you are only required to give the total number of people in the household and their ages. I won’t answer anything else.

Finally ... confirmation that I'm white. French Atlantic Canadian ancestry, or the short form Cajun. My wife is too but she's one of those Louisiana Cajuns (copies).

# 1 That's correct. I did it yesterday and only answered what the Constitution specifies. Although when it came to race I

I did the paper version as opposed to online. I identified as white but when asked to further break it down, I answered unknown. I have family on both sides that belong to S.A.R./D.A.R. so the info is available but if we're going back to the 1700's I'm quoting the Beast: "At this point, what difference does it make?"

I'm big into genealogy, and have spent countless hours combing through past census records from the US, Canada, and UK. Used to be they asked many relevant questions, such as your and your parents' places of birth, if you could read and write. rent or own, occupation, etc Completing this current census this past weekend, I thought it was the most pathetic census questionnaire I had ever seen. It asked non of the above questions, but it did ask if my son was my same-sex partner. This country seriously has it's head screwed on bassakwards, which explains why most Americans are reacting like chickens with their heads cut off to this coronavirus situation.

The only 'white' American is Frosty the Snowman. I am a person of color, not of all colors. What's wrong with Caucasian. Are Japanese and Chinese putting down 'yellow'?

I'm really surprised they didn't want a copy of our DNA results from Ancestry or wherever you did it...they didn't have an entry for
50% England, Wales & Northwestern Europe
44% Germanic Europe
1 Other regions

I simply answered “I don’t know” for each person in my family. First, I really don’t know despite what Ancestory.com says. Second, who the hell cafes. My son, my wife, and I are natural born citizens of the United States of America. Nothing else matters.

For the race question, it's a toss up. Should I enter 'horse' or 'drag'?

I haven't received a census form this time and didn't last time either. Since I guess I don't exist, does that mean I no longer have to pay taxes?

I left everything blank under RACE until at the bottom it says: Other: where I filled in HUMAN. I do the same for every form I must fill out.

I put down that I was Samoan and my spouse was Tongan. That is what we both feel. If a man can feel like a woman, that we can feel like we came from a tropical island.

The origin question should not be in there. Very few could list one single ethnicity. I was one of the blessed group that received the "book" last year. I left many questions blank and don't expect to hear from them. The online version I just completed wasn't bad.

I generally get to pick the ethnicity we are going to report.... but maybe this year I'll let the eldest grand daughter do it.
You would not believe the breadth of choices this family has......

I filled my census form yesterday, and entered "American." My roots go back to the 1600's on this continent. 10 years ago I entered American in the "Other" Box.
