It’s Time for Elizabeth Warren to Drop Out

Original Article

Elizabeth Warren may not even win her own state tomorrow. Though a recent Boston Globe/WBZ TV/Suffolk University poll shows Warren neck-and-neck with Bernie Sanders in Massachusetts, FiveThirtyEight’s polling average shows Bernie Sanders with a five-point lead overall, and Warren’s lack of an obvious lead does not portend great things for her candidacy. Second place would be an ignominious result for Warren, and yet it would be her highest finish of the primary. Massachusetts remains the only Super Tuesday state that Warren could feasibly win. There is one way for the senator to preserve her dignity while advancing the progressive cause she espouses,

They'll have to offer her the VP slot - - to get her to drop out - - - - just as they've already offered it to Buttigieg, Klobuchar, Hildabeast, and countless others. Too bad Zero Mostel isn't still around - - to manage this buffoonish remake of The Producers.

The writer refers to Warren’s ‘generous policies’ as if the spoils she’s offering to the proletariat were coming out of her own pocket. The debates reminded me of a demented game show where all the good prizes go to illegal immigrants or transgenders. Warren is no slouch at this game but Sanders beats her out with the impression he gives that his own man bunned IQ challenged followers will actually be in charge. Best for her to quit now while she can still stalk the cable news shows and claim it’s because she’s a woman.

The DNC is probably encouraging her to stay, so she will continue to strip votes from Bernie. She is probably staying on the chance that Bernie drops dead from a heart attack during one of his old man angry rants. All of his voters would likely slide over to her.

Here's a question. Why is she staying in when all the others are dropping out? It may be sheer cussedness: she just refuses to buckle under pressure from the Dem establishment. And I gather that she truly hates Bloomberg; it's always hard to tell with her because she is a Liar, a Cheat and a Fraud. It may be a kingmaker ploy: she intends to deprive Bernie of just enough delegates to prevent a first ballot win. But she is the closet socialist, while Bernie is the out-and-proud socialist. So it may be an establishment gambit: the Dem elites want her to stay in and drain votes from Bernie to keep him from 1,991 (or whatever the heck the number is) and they will provide her all the campaign funds necessary.

One of PDJT's first actions as President was to eliminate the regulations strangling business. A good deal of them were created by Warren's brainchild, the Consumer Protection Board. No one has forgotten this, and are loathe to let her anywhere near the reins of power again.

I think it's funny that the article suggests that Warren's working class supporters can be transferred over to Socialist Sanders. They are far more likely to go to Biden, or stay home, or even vote for Trump. It's like the authors, obviously in love with Bernie, think there is no choice ahead but Socialism. I would like to see Warren hang in there because she is the last pit bull willing to go after Sanders and Bloomberg and that has high entertainment value. But realistically, she's toast. She would make a terrible president so no great loss.

Will the EU survive coronavirus? 23 replies

Will the European Union be one of the casualties of COVID-19? The worldwide pandemic has dealt a dramatic and obvious blow to the liberal ideas of free trade and freedom of movement that inspired and were inspired by the EU. The openness that made it possible to travel and do business seamlessly across a continent has provided the virus with a cornucopia of vectors for transmission. If the refugee crisis of the mid-2010s put strengthened borders back on the continent's political agenda, the pandemic has made the case for hunkering down nationally as well as individually hard to dispute.

NORTH HAVEN, Maine—The ferry to the island of North Haven, Maine, has space for a dozen or so vehicles and 220 passengers. This past Saturday afternoon, there were just three passengers: a cable operator on his way to check the island’s Internet service, and a lobsterman and his sternman returning from a supply run. They made the 12-mile crossing inside their trucks, opting not to venture into the ferry’s empty passenger compartments. About 75 minutes later, they docked at the town landing where a single car waited to depart. Normally, this time of year, the 12:30 p.m. ferry runs about half full.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pennsylvania — It is early Sunday morning along one of the few congested stretches of the Lincoln Highway when an empty parking lot below the familiar cheery yellow sign for the local Waffle House catches the eye. The 24-hour diner chain, born in Atlanta 65 years ago and now spread across 25 states in nearly 2,000 locations, is primarily known for its ability to serve as a touchstone in every community it serves. It feeds a cult-like following among foodies and road warriors. But it is also known for two other very remarkable distinctions: It closes for no disaster, and the stores have no locks.

Back home in Oakland, Calif., Lisa Pezzino and Kit Center built a life that revolved around music and the people who make it — the musicians who recorded on Pezzino’s small label and performed in places where Center rigged the lights and sound equipment. Where they are now, deep in the redwood forest near Big Sur, 140 miles south along the California coast, there is mostly the towering silence of isolation. A tiny cabin, an outdoor kitchen, just one neighbor. This is life in the flight from the virus.

Covid-19: The Reality Show has taken cable TV by storm. The plot is nominally about a war against an invisible Chinese invader that has already killed over 1,200 Americans. But on another level, it is a family sitcom, a successor to Ozzie and Harriet, Leave It to Beaver, and The Cosby Show. The star is Daddy Donald, a brilliant if erratic father figure, who sometimes rambles on, as fathers are wont to do. He is ably supported by his younger brother, Uncle Mike, who is loyal, steady, competent, and boring. With every strand of his snow-white hair perfectly in place, Uncle Mike always says the right thing.

It is a given in politics that an incumbent has the advantage until things go wrong, at which point the challenger gets an edge. Then why, amidst panic, death and economic shutdown, is Joe Biden looking like the sick man of 2020? Biden’s predicament is odd considering a key pillar of Donald Trump’s presidency — record low unemployment — is being vaporized. Thursday’s 3.3 million new unemployment claims wiped out nearly half the jobs created in the last three years, and the worst is yet to come.

Prime Minister Netanyahu’s astonishing emergence with an agreement to remain the prime minister in a national unity government of Israel reminds us of the yarn about the rabbi, the cossack, and the cossack’s dog. It seems the rabbi is out for a walk when he encounters a cossack officer and his dog. The cossack draws his weapon, points it at the rabbi, and pulls back the hammer. “Don’t shoot, don’t shoot,” the rabbi cries, throwing up his arms. “Why not?” demands the cossack. “Because,” the rabbi exclaims, “if you give me a year, I will teach your dog to talk.”

The coronavirus crisis is a make-or-break moment for the American media. According to Wednesday’s Gallup poll on the coronavirus response, “Hospitals Rated Best, News Media Worst.” The survey shows that 44% of the public says the media has been doing “a good job.” This is high considering how the press fares in normal times, but let’s be honest: It can’t be comforting to a press corps that has been persistently adversarial to Donald Trump that it ranks 16 points lower than the approval of the president’s own handling of the crisis. Predictably, some of the media’s worst tendencies, such as myopic concerns about political correctness and electoral politics, have often
