A survivor of the 2018 massacre on Valentine’s Day at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and now enrolled at Harvard, student gun control activist David Hogg has become a sought-after speaker at colleges and universities, and the odds are off the chart that he’ll be given a prime-time slot at the Democratic National Convention in August. While I fully support his right to protest things he thinks are wrong, I respectfully disagree with his belief that school carnage will end if semi-automatic rifles are banned. When I was in high school in the early 1960s, there were no mass school shootings.

He is not a survivor. He was not at the campus when it happened. He is a communist leach.

#1 is absolutely correct. Hogg had skipped school the day of the shooting, but rushed to the schhool after the shooting, living up to his name, in front of the TV cameras.
And the reverend jesse jackson was not on the balcony when MLK was shot. Instead, he was inside the moptel room, went out, and rubbed MLK's blood on his own shirt.

Don't encourage this unemployed, self-important teenager by calling him a gun control activist. He's a kid who parlayed a tragedy into 15 minutes of fame. That's it.

I'm a survivor of the same school shooting and I'm still waiting for my free ride to Harvard. I wasn't at the school either, not even in the same state, but like CNN, why let the facts get in the way of a good narrative?

No one is going to listen to Hogg, except those who are already against the Second Amendment. Hogg has no power and is just another useful child idiot of the democrat party. I forecast a terrible life of drugs, crime and unhappiness if he doesn't have an intervention.

Teachers used to be able to command respect and discipline students. Parents used to correct their children at home when the school sent home a note, or worse. The inmates are running the asylums, both in high schools and colleges. Teachers are now afraid to keep kids in line and parents are too tired or apathetic to raise their kids. Notice how every time something happens, a parent will say the school needs a new program for whatever the problem was?
I will answer to "O.K., Boomer" and say that my dad had a rifle in the closet. It was not loaded but he told us kids never to touch it. We never did, because we respected our father and did not want to incur his seldom-unleashed wrath. We also went to Sunday School back in those days and learned of God's love, but also of consequences for bad behavior. Dads and faith worked wonders to keep us on the straight and narrow path.
Nikolas Cruz's awful behavior was noted but no one did much about it. Everyone is afraid that discipline will infringe upon the child's rights. Mayhem is overlooked because of the fear of mental health advocates, Kids can claim to be of certain religions in order to skirt dress codes, no one will take a stand on boys going into the girls' bathrooms or locker rooms because of potential accusations of "trans-phobia," the list goes on. Schools are no longer the safe havens we thought them to be many years ago because they are not places for education, but for every crackpot cause and the appeasement of malcontents.

Well if semi-automatic rifles are banned, why not semi-automatic pistols as well as those pistols operate in the same manner. So if all semi-automatic pistols and rifles are banned, the real effect would be that just about all modern firearms would be banned. Since only law abiding people obey laws, it is clear that violent criminals and terrorists would still retain their semi-automatic weapons to use against the disarmed law abiding population.

All rifles comprise such a statistically small group of murder weapons that the are lumped together. Deer rifles, target .22s, surplus military rifles from the early 1900s, and all semiautomatic rifles, whether ordinary looking ones with wood and blued steel, or military styled ones with black plastic and grey anodized finishes.
This whole group of all rifles account in a typical year for around 300 to 400 murders, out of roughly 315 million people, so the chances of a person being shot with ANY rifle is literally "a million to one" chance.
This is ALL rifles lumped together, so those "scary military style rifles" probably make up 5-10% of that total population of rifles, so they account for a small fraction of that already very small number.
For comparison, twice as many people were beaten to death with "personal weapons" (hands, feet, fists, elbows) each year. These are those mythical "unarmed men" who are always presumed by the media to be "undangerous", too.
Let that sink in a bit, unarmed men kill twice as many people every year as are killed by than all the rifles out there. And "knives and cutting instruments" are used to kill about four to five times as often as ALL rifles.
Rifles are a statistical drop in the bucket for murders, regardless of what these worthless antigun fools keep saying. Military styled rifles are an even smaller subset of that small group. But they are a very important deterrent to government tyrants, and THAT is why they really want them out of our hands, so we can be controlled.
Gun control is about control more than about guns.

I do not "respectfully disagree" with someone who thinks more of my freedom needs to be stolen and tries to make that happen. Such a person is my enemy and is to be treated as such.

Attention Hogg had been out of the scene too long. Greta has been stealing his spotlight as most obnoxious teenager on the planet.
No intelligent human being should give these moronic kids one iota of their time. Guess that is why the liberals love 'em so much.

Just imagine a 'Hogg-Thunberg wedding' sometime in the future. I think a remake 'Rosemary's Baby' may be in it, too.

I graduated from HS in 1962. The worst thing I recall, but never saw was a fist fight. No knives, no guns. And the school administrators actually administrated. THEY were in charge, even though many were democrats.

I graduated from HS in 1960 and kept my shotgun in a friend's car so we could go bird hunting after school. Other kids did the same yet no one would have dreamed of shooting our fellow students. It's the moral collapse brought on by the left that has caused proper values to be trashed. There is also another reason the left wants to take away our guns....punishment. Punishment for voting and thinking the 'wrong' way. This is one more way they can get back at us for electing the evil Trump.

Multiple sources and multiple witnesses put Hogg on campus, but away from the shooting area on the day of the attack.
