The Democratic Party is in a state of panic over an unelectable extremist emerging as the possibly unstoppable frontrunner for its presidential nomination. When an institution is in a crisis like this, its leaders get called on to step in and exercise some leadership.
The problem for Democrats is that their official leaders aren’t their real leaders.
“Bernie Sanders cannot beat Trump,” warns 94-year-old longtime party mega-donor and Joe Biden backer Bernard Schwartz, who is appealing to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to come forward and back one of Sanders’ rivals. Worse, Bernie at the top of the ticket could have a reverse coattail effect

Hard to be at war with something you don't have.
Ok, snark off....they don't STAND for anything. A principled being stands FOR something - they take an affirmative view of a virtue (i.e. freedom, responsibility), and fight to preserve those things, and that often (always!) requires self-imposed constraints on behavior/appetite.
However, on the other side, their operating mode is freedom FROM - freedom from any type of restraint on their behavior/appetites/inclinations. So they're always in tear-down mode. Remove the guard rails, indulge whatever appetite you have (check the 7 deadly sins for general list: envy, lust, sloth (acedia - complete indifference), wrath, greed, anger, pride). The antidote to this is what it has always been since the dawn of man - shore up and strengthen the opposite virtues: humility, kindness, abstinence, chastity, patience, liberality, diligence.
Remind ourselves that we are of transcendent worth -- no one gives us worth. It isn't earned, or acquired -- but is certainly discovered. Help your liberal friends find their way back to a path of the virtues. During this Christian season of Lent, shore up the virtues in your own life. Pray for your enemies. Their souls are worth saving too.

Their concern seems to be with regard to timing. They are worried that they can't beat Trump but not at all worried about the Genie they let out of the bottle. They have unleashed a gold rush to fleece the wealth of the entire nation and hand it over to people who didn't produce it, some of whom are licking their chops on the other side of the porous border waiting for the right moment.
They have convinced a significant part of the country that anybody with wealth obtained it through evil means and that as long you espouse the appropriate leftist theology you deserve to have it.
But the concern is that they have revealed their true selves too soon and can't beat Trump.
I would prefer to believe that there are some "democrats" out there who have supported the move to the left to date but now realize the jig is up and the whole thing is out of control and threatens to kill the golden goose. I remain skeptical that what I would prefer to be the case actually is to any great extent.

The Dem establishment is like a person who is afraid of someone's dog, but tries to make nice by patting the dog on the head. The dog senses the fear, and takes some delight in biting their hand.

They spent a century as "progressives" using the technique of "boiling a frog" to advance Socialism. With Obama they got bold and thought the time was ripe to take a bold step to come out of the closet of "respectability" and unleash their "final solution". They are no longer hiding their inner selves and they have an impatient mob pushing them on. It is satisfying to see those willing to drop their hypocrisy. Now America can take the necessary steps to restore its free society. The enemy is now in the open.

The best analogy I can think of is that the Democrats have assembled bands of people who in fact have lost or abandoned their souls and are now roaming around looking for an opportunity as a mob to loot the country in total and not just that random big box store during a flood or an arson fire. And whoa...here comes Comrade Bernie with a can of gasoline and a BIC lighter...

FTA: ''But Pelosi and Schumer can’t risk the embarrassment of backing the wrong horse on the eve of the South Carolina primary and less than a week before Super Tuesday.''
THIS tells all you need to know about those two losers. Rather than trying to do what is best for the country, as well as their own party, they are afraid they might suffer some embarrassment or push back. Doing what is right, instead of what is self-serving, is what makes great statesmen. There is nothing great about them.

No national political party has a "soul". Both are money vacuums that serve a united purpose: To "spread it around" while appearing to be locked in mortal combat to churn more cash...rinse and repeat. Issues are mostly maintained because they are proven boob bait. And that is where PDT comes in, as an outsider apparently attempting to toss over the money changing tables in the Capitol and the "Deep State" bureaucracies. Why does one otherwise think he is taking flak from all sides, from Mitt Romney to Schumer and Pelosi...the FBI, CIA and others?

Today's democrats and Rino's are Marxist Communists. They are not affraid of Bern as he represents what the Marxist Communist democrats want to openly represent themselves. But not just yet advertise they are Marxist Communists as they do not yet have enough youth's brainwashed into believing Marxist Communism is social justice where everyone lives in Utopian communities and are equals in every aspect of life.
They have for over 100 years been working to get everyone brainwashed enough to voluntarily vote Marxist Communism into veto proof total authority over government in order to force all into the One World Marxist Communist Government which they are calling Globalism of a New World Order.
That is also what your children are being taught in your government run education system. The earlier in the lives of children the easier for them to be brainwashed into Marxist Communism. Lying to them saying everyone is the same (code for elimination) of all who will not voluntarily accept Marxist Communism running every aspect of their lives from birth to grave. Their unquestionable supreme power to eliminate you if you will not bend to their will. And, that is the very first thing they do everywhere they take total control. Eliminate all who opposed them taking total power.
Parents, study yourself and teach your children the truth of Communism no matter which brand they choose to say they represent. Your education system is not and will not teach them the truth.
My mother always said Communists promises of all will be utopia is like a pie crust, created to be broken and devoured by evil tyrant oppressors who enslave you and your brain.

Everyone that creates the monster thinks they can control the monster because they created it.
Then they find out they are not God.
These monsters are going to strangle the Democrat party in its bed. They are going to destroy so others can know how it feels.

The Dem party lost it's soul long ago. I can't think of ONE nationally prominent Dem that I could stand to be around. That's a shame because back in the 90s I worked closely (lunches in her office, doing bill markups, etc) with a powerful Dem state legislator in Kansas. That concealed carry bill was the only political thing we agreed on, but we could laugh about our differences and work effectively for our common goal.
I can't see the slightest bit of any common goal or view between the top Dems today and any political, moral, or economic view that I hold.
