I’ve been enthusiastic about Mike Bloomberg’s race for president from its inception, partly on the theory that he was best positioned to rescue and represent the Democratic Party’s moderate wing. (Snip)Wednesday’s debate left Sanders unscathed. Nothing and nobody touched him. The Democratic Party’s riskiest bet is now its likeliest.
I say this as someone who wrote, a little earlier than most, that Sanders had the best chance of winning the nomination, and that he has just as serious a shot at winning the presidency as Donald Trump did four years earlier.

Calling Bloomberg a Moderate is not unlike calling Stalin a bit left of center.

Bloomberg is a moderate totalitarian and doesn't believe in gulags and reeducation camps like Bernie and his supporters. At least not yet.

First Trumps moniker for Bloomberg is MINI Mike not Little Mike! The writer refers to the Moderate Candidates?
There are no Moderate Democrats on the Stage. We who support President Trump see that any Democrat Elected President will be Working to fulfill BHO promise to FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORM THE UNITED STATES...into something unrecognizable! TRUMP 2020 MAGA is the only hope of saving The American Dream from becoming a Nightmare!

There were actually alot of cheap shots at Trump in the article. One of my favorites was "Trump’s victory was an electoral fluke against an overconfident opponent". No jackwagon, it's because 63+ million people voted for him, or AGAINST Clinton. There was no more "electoral fluke" to this election than the two elections won by the Kenyan.

I had no problem accessing the article, it came right up. Brett Stephens is miserable.
Mr. Stephens refers to President Trump as the worst, but doesn't bother to make the case. He softens Sanders's communist positions by saying criticisms of his positions were somehow unfounded. But we don't read about nationalizing the health care and energy industries in the article, nor do we hear about the assault on private property (income) that Sanders wants to mount. Mr. Stephens doesn't bother to mention the draconian Green New Deal Bernie wants to advance, which garnered no votes in the Senate (thank you Mitch!). All we see from Mr. Stephens is an irrational hatred of Donald Trump, unsubstantiated, that we all know stems from two things: his effectiveness against the entrenched corruption and his fearlessness in going after the Swamp and its mouthpiece, the media.

Bloomie is trying to do the Democrats (and he thinks Americans) a favor. He has the apparent animus and the means to go after PDT himself, but he needs a raison d'être for his billion dollar attack. Running for President in the opposition party serves this purpose. He is the epitome of NeverTrump "moderates".
He could (and would be better off) placing a cardboard cutout of himself on debate stages. And who cares? "Moderates" like the doofus who wrote this drivel. And after Bernie grabs his nomination and starts with his nonsense, these "moderates" will be searching for an alternative...and his name will be Mitt, who will head a third party "moderate" ticket.
Mitt's theme will be everything moderate is good for America, let's stop the fighting and conflict, and live together in the common middle ground. It will be beautiful!
The object is to be the most inoffensive choice for the most people who hate making real choices between different candidates. Mitt provides them bubble wrap from icky extreme politics. And his #1 goal is to stop PDT from gaining a second term. See, Bernie of the three million-dollar homes, is a bought and paid member of the UNIPARTY. PDT is not. Bernie can't do it alone, and the air has to be let out of the radical Dem tires. Nothing does that like rejection at the polls.

Make a note of this. It's a headline that you never thought you would see from the New York Times this early in the campaign season. We didn't see a similar one in 2016 until the day after the election when the Slimes joined the list of the MSM crybabies lamenting the last drunken night before Hillary Clinton became a nobody without a prayer to make it into the White House. Against all the odds and predictions, Donald Trump became SuperPOTUS. The democrats are in deep trouble whether Bernie wins their little contest or not.

The Democrats have pandered to every anti-American extremist and every dishonest lazy moocher and thug out there. Now they are surprised when they take over? Bloomberg is a moderate? Anyone that believes that is a liar or deluded lying to themselves or just a total complete ignoramus. There are no moderates running for the Democratic nomination. Yet the media keeps covering for them.
They clearly do not have their act together. They will not govern, they will rule. They will take your money, restrict your freedoms, and send this country into an economic tailspin with millions losing their jobs.
They aren't fit to govern, and anyone with an ounce of common sense won't vote for them!
The Democrats have a problem? Yep, they have a really big problem.

I only very rarely break my rule "Never bother with the NYT", and with Bret as the author, not a chance.
A leased fake conservative is never a good thing.
OTOH, he might have a point, if I can guess from the short intro. I do hope the Dems are "in trouble", I hope it is lots of trouble.

Major difference between President Trump and Sanders: President Trump upholds and defends the Constitution of the United States of America.
Sanders has by word, intention and practice dismissed our Constitution. Everything he says announces his plans to dismantle our Bill of Rights. He is a communist supporter; he thinks calling himself a socialist blunts the fact that he is not pro-America. He makes BO's "fundamental transformation of the USA" look like child's play.
Once in power, he and his ilk (virtually every Dem candidate et al) will by might, not persuasion or incrementally, take apart the structure of our Republic in order to destroy not merely transform. BO couched his "revolution" in a more poetic phrase. There is nothing poetic about Sanders and his comrades.
Once they've begun the dismantling, it will be next to impossible to restore what is broken and smashed. I DO have confidence in the sturdiness of our system because of our fellow Patriots as those who love our Constitutional Republic. And we do have a longer and stronger set of political traditions and fundamentals which have helped us through past rocky days. But the dangers posed by Sanders and his comrades are very, very real.
President Trump may not sound sophisticated or nicely literate, charming and erudite, but he is protecting AMERICA and he loves his fellow citizens. Not one Democrat has expressed anything close to that. They say: give me power and I will tear this Constitutional Republic apart.

Most posters here don’t believe for a minute that Bloomberg is a moderate, but I’m sure plenty of other people believe it, especially when he’s compared to Bernie. He could be Trump’s toughest opponent.

Won't bother reading article, but I wonder if the NY Times takes any responsibility for the Democrats being in trouble. Don't they reinforce each other's playbooks? Seems so.
