Democrat presidential hopeful and billionaire Tom Steyer has vowed to raise the federal minimum wage to $22 per hour should he defeat other Democrat hopefuls and President Donald Trump in November. According to a report from Fox News, Steyer made the announcement during a campaign block party on Sunday while campaigning in South Carolina. Both Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) have also released plans to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour. While many states have independently raised the minimum wage to compete with the cost of living, the current minimum wage sits at $7.25 per hour

A great plan if your objective is to destroy small business and cause unemployment to skyrocket.

Steyer has no understanding of value. Prices will adjust until $22 will equal the old $15 an hour value for everything.

You just can't force people to change the value they place on goods and services. Sure a fast food burger has a place in your life where the balance of product quality, service and cost cause you to make a purchase decision. You make a significant change to any of those variables and you, the market will react.
If you hire someone to cut your grass at $20 and government demands you pay $40 you'll cut it yourself. If government demands that you can only pay $10, good luck finding someone to do it; you'll still get stuck cutting it yourself. Being a democrat means believing you can force a change in one variable of a multivariate system and get a desired outcome without any adjustments to other variables.
Steyer knows this he's simply pandering.

In NY, the idiots gave us $15. minimum wage. Now the lunch that once cost you $7.50 is $10.50. I use to hire 4 part time workers at Christmas time and pay them $15. an hour, when the minimum was $10. I did that so they didn't float off during the 6 weeks I needed them when everyone else was paying $10.
This year I hired nobody.

The Federal Government has no authority over what free people can do in their pursuit of happiness that doesn't infringe on the rights of others. There is nothing in the Constitution that allows a draconian-nanny state to tell us how much or little we can negotiate and chose to work, hire, buy or sell legal goods and services. NONE.

The average hourly wage in the US is $27 per hour versus a federal minimum of $7.25. If the minimum wage is raised to $22 for basically unskilled workers, what would the average wage have to be for experienced workers? $100 per hour? Would any hourly worker have a job at that level? What could US manufacturers and farmers sell with that cost factor? Even robotics wouldn’t be en alternative since the costs of machines would be prohibitive. And if we think government employees are expensive now, wait until they are receiving $100+ per hour and similar pensions.
Such high hourly costs would result in more illegals, something Dems welcome. If a Dem President is elected in 2020 or 2024, kiss the Trump Wall, ICE and English goodbye.

If federal minimum wage is raised to $22 per hour, Congress in its incredible economic wisdom, would be forced to raise Social Security payments to a similar level. Since Social Security is dependent on a shrinking base of workers versus beneficiaries, paychecks will shrink drastically to cover the expense. And if the pension funds of state and local governments and public universities are under funded now, wait until average wages are doubled and then quadrupled to reach $100 hourly levels.
Since the 15 to 20 Blue States are at or are approaching $15.00 per hr versus $7.25 federal minimum, what will these Dem controlled states raise their minimums to in order to offer a “living wage” to their citizens? $45 per hour? If retail is suffering now, just wait.
As to inflation, it’s here in declining sizes of cans and bottles for food, the expensive MSRPs for new cars and the resulting 72 month auto loans and more. Yet the Federal Reserve wonders why there isn’t inflation with 3.6% unemployment.

Why did the U.S. lose all it's Manufacturing jobs from the 1970's to the present? Because fool politicians and bureaucrats starting messing around with wages. When I went to my first employer requesting another raise, citing hard work and diligence, he thanked me for being a good employee, but that there is a ceiling on what he could afford to pay for my position, and that if I wanted to make a Doctor's salary, it would help if I became a Doctor.
I got the point, finished high school, went to trade school, then served an apprenticeship to become an Electrician. I was rewarded for investing in myself, and learning a skill set that is always in demand and pays quite well.
There are no shortcuts, if you want what I have, do what I did. My thanks to the KFC manager all those years ago for "Getting my head right".

It would seem that politicians have never heard the expression "A rising tide floats all boats". Unending wage increases leads to unending price increases. Having been employed before there was a minimum wage law, I have experience no great gain in my quality of living from such laws. Eighteen years of schooling and training made the only real difference.

Followed by massive numbers of new unemployment claims, $15 for a gallon of milk, $22 for a Big Mac at McDonald's, $17 a gallon gas, $32 a ticket for movies, etc, etc, etc.
Sorry, I am applying logic, reason, and facts to this insane rant. And Tom Steyer, being a lie-beral Demon-Rat has no comprehension of logic, reason or facts!!!

If he's going to pay for it from his personal funds, fine.
Because funding something like this through taxes and fees is not a sustainable model for the general economy,
