Rep. Ayanna Pressley said she intends to "bring the fire" if Americans don't adopt her political ideology during a conversation with NPR's Democracy Now as part of the nonprofit organization Rising Majority's conversation with "the Squad." "As I said when we were at the border, we're going to keep telling and elevating these stories with the hopes that you will see the light," said Pressley. "And if you don't see the light, then we will bring the fire. That's just how it progresses." Pressley made the comments in a panel discussion at Howard University in Washington with Reps. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rashida Tlaib, all Democrats.

The Royal Caribbean cruise line announced Friday it will ban any guests with Chinese, Hong Kong or Macau passports from boarding its ships until further notice — after dozens of passengers aboard its ship Anthem of the Seas, now docked in New Jersey, were screened for the illness. The company informed guests of the new “health-screening protocols” in a statement. “Any guests holding a Chinese, Hong Kong, or Macau passport, regardless of when they were there last, will not be allowed to board our ships,” the statement said. “Regardless of nationality, any guest or crewmember traveling from, to, or through mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau

Sen. Bernie Sanders called for an end to cash bail across the country at the Democratic debate on Friday night, saying there are hundreds of thousands of people locked up because they can’t afford a several-hundred-dollar fee. Sanders made his call to end bail as the candidates debated America’s criminal justice system and how it affects minorities in the United States. “Most people don’t know this. Tonight in America, 200,000 people are in jail without having been convicted of anything. Two hundred thousand people — because they can’t afford the 500 bucks they need to get out of jail,” Sanders said. “That is outrageous.

Hong Kong is facing a toilet paper shortage as Chinese factories struggle to meet demand amid the coronavirus outbreak, according to a report. Shoppers were photographed walking past bare supermarket shelves usually stocked with toilet paper. The cause of the shortage is unclear, but unconfirmed reports on social media suggested that it stemmed from production holdups at supply chains in mainland China, according to Bloomberg. Some Chinese cities remain under quarantine, while thousands of people are sick from the coronavirus, impacting its workforce. Vinda International Holdings, which produces toilet paper, said its factories in mainland China will resume operations next week.

Are we watching a great political party commit suicide? For more than a year, Democratic candidates, up to 26 of them at one point, have been crisscrossing Iowa’s 99 counties, seeking votes in Iowa’s precinct caucuses. They were duly held on Monday night. But the Iowa Democratic Party did not release any results until Tuesday, and they were only partial results. What does that say about the party’s competence and judgment? Iowa’s Democratic caucuses had a complex system of regrouping supporters of candidates with less than 15% and reporting not votes but state convention delegate equivalents. Bernie Sanders supporters protested when the Iowa party announced Hillary Clinton had beaten him

A third child — the woman’s 4-year-old son, who later died — had not been diagnosed with the flu at the time, but showed symptoms of a fever and had a seizure. Nevertheless, she ignored the doctor’s orders, she wrote.

The Republican National Committee and President Trump's reelection campaign raised more than $100 million over the course of the impeachment investigation and the trial. The two entities, combined with a joint fundraising committee, revealed that they raised $117 million through online fundraising, ranging from late September, when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the impeachment proceedings, to Wednesday, when the Senate acquitted him, according to McClatchyDC. They raised that money from about a million new donors. The money raised came from small-dollar donors through its "Stop the Madness" campaign. The ads for the campaign cost more than $11 million and were featured on Google, Facebook, Hulu, YouTube, Instagram,

Sen. Joe Manchin slammed fellow Democrat Rep. Jerry Nadler for suggesting that the House would continue investigating President Trump’s conduct regarding Ukraine. Manchin, who represents West Virginia, appeared Friday on Fox News to discuss his vote to convict Trump on both impeachment charges. "They’re crazy if [investigations into Trump over Ukraine] come back," Manchin said. "Well, I’m hoping the president has learned. Mr. President, we are equal powers."

Tom Steyer apparently thought he had a good line at the Democratic presidential debate on Friday when, with great flourish, he reminded his rivals that former president Bill Clinton campaigned successfully by remembering, "It's the economy, stupid!" Steyer was right, and that's why President Trump is on course for reelection. Steyer correctly said that Trump routinely touts the robust economic growth seen in his first term and that it's proving an effective line with voters. But Steyer left the reservation when he said Democrats would only be successful in November if they "beat" Trump on that issue. He didn't say how he or any one of them could do that,

Bernie Sanders is popular in New Hampshire, and so is socialism. But the rest of the nation feels differently. When asked about this dichotomy during Friday’s Democratic primary debate, Sanders dismissed concerns about his Democratic socialist label and how it would isolate moderate voters in the general election. The moderators noted that President Trump will undoubtedly use Sanders’s socialist label against him if he wins the Democratic nomination, but Sanders didn’t seem to care. “Donald Trump lies all the time,” Sanders claimed.

Democratic California Assemblyman Marc Levine has introduced a clearly unconstitutional bill which mandates that anyone registered to vote must attend a voting booth and file a response. Levine says his intended law is justified and necessary because "democracy is not a spectator sport — it requires the active participation of all its citizens ... Those rights come with a responsibility by registered voters to cast their ballot and make sure that their voice is heard by their government." While registered voters would not have to select a candidate in order to conform with Levine's desired law, they would have to file a ballot return, even if unmarked.

All those pundits saying the Iowa caucus fiasco suddenly makes the Democrats weak for the fall election against President Trump are wrong — there was nothing sudden about their weakness at all. Even before Iowa, this Democratic field was embarrassingly weak. It is woefully lacking in stature, accomplishments, competence, and salable political philosophy. Most of its major contenders are either too old or too young. And now, the national party infrastructure’s obvious disarray only exacerbates these problems. Consider front-runner Bernie Sanders. His popularity with historically illiterate, willfully ignorant millennials aside, he would be a joke as a general election candidate in any other year.

The most important thing that happened during President Trump’s post-impeachment rant at the White House didn’t happen at the lectern. Yes, as usual, he called me a sleaze and scum and a dirty cop and said he likely would no longer be president if he hadn’t fired me. Although I still can’t follow the logic of that last bit, it doesn’t matter. The important thing was what happened in the audience, where there were plenty of intelligent people of deep commitment to religious principle.
