For a thoughtful man of conscience, this decision should have proven easy. Trump broke no laws and really did nothing wrong. To throw a man out of the presidency and set aside the voter's intent, a serious crime was needed. The only crime Trump committed was stepping on Mitt's apparently enormous and sensitive ego. Mitt has headed out into the desert. He will find no home with Republicans or dems. When he gets back in, say, 40 years or so, maybe he will have his head on straight. We will just have to carry on WINNING without him.

Pardon second post, but, he isn't done yet. I fear that Pierre Delecto will run for president as an independent just to take evangelical votes away from Trump. Like what Ross Perot did in 1992. And thanks to Perot, HW didn't get re-elected and we got BJ...for eight long years. Red alert, Mr. President. Can we get somehow get Pierre under control, please, before he gets any ideas of leaving the republican party and running against you and the dims.

And the dems will have had to torpedo Bernie - again. Bernie Bros ain't going to vote for Mitt, Booty or Trump. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bernie go 3rd party this time. If Romney changes party affiliation now, especially after being the GOP standard bearer in 2012, he should immediately resign his Senate seat and run again as a Democrat if he wants to go back. He ran for his current seat under false pretenses if he stubbornly believes utterly mendacious characters like Schiff and Nadler.over the president, who is doing a pretty bang up job as far as most of us here are concerned. If Pierre Delecto (caught in flagrante delicto in his deception) thinks prayer led him to his decision to convict the president, one wonders what he is praying for, and to what entity.

There is a saying in politics—to get along, you have to go along. Romney went rogue at the worst possible moment. If the Republicans increase their majority in the Senate, and even if they don’t, Romney is toast as a power in the party. He is a very foolish man. I wonder what or who influenced him to do this.

The Mormon bashing here and there is a bit disappointing. Why trash our allies? Eating their own is for Democrats. The great majority of Mormons are nice people who are just as devastated by Mitt's perfidy as you are. Heck, to be consistent, shouldn't we then be bashing Catholics for Nancy Pelosi? Or Baptists and Methodists for the Clintons?

Mitt Romney will have a long road to redemption with the GOP – at least as long as President Trump is in office. For those closest to the president, the business titan who was the party standard-bearer just eight years ago may never be forgiven over his dramatic vote to convict Trump on abuse of power this week. He could face primary challenges on top of the sustained scorn of Trump backers in his own state. His own family has a beef with him. For years, Mitt Romney had a reputation as a flip-flopper, an opportunist, a politician who would tailor his beliefs to fit whichever group he was trying to please. Running for office in deep-blue Massachusetts in 1994 and 2002, he pronounced himself strongly pro-choice. Running for the Republican presidential nomination in pro-life Iowa and South Carolina, he became just as strongly pro-life. As governor of Massachusetts, he produced a universal healthcare program that prefigured Obamacare. Appealing to GOP voters deeply opposed to Obama, Romney renounced his signature accomplishment.

CNN has been a constant anti-Trump machine for the past three years. So when they say omething which helps the president, you know that it has to be a pretty obvious statement of fact. Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, one of the Trump defense lawyers, laid out the case of the Bidens and Ukraine at the Senate impeachment trial. She did a great job, pointing out the real concerns and questions raised by Hunter’s work for Burisma while Joe was the point man for Barack Obama on Ukraine. From early in our nation’s history, America’s intellectuals have mostly looked down on their own country and yearned for it to be like someplace else–someplace more sophisticated, and more in tune with “modern” intellectual currents, whatever they might be at the moment. That is a long history, which I will skip over. In our own time, American intellectuals have claimed that Soviet Russia, Germany and Japan were harbingers of the future that the U.S. needed to imitate. In each case, the point was that we had to shed our archaic freedoms and enter the brave new world of central planning under the control–benign, of course!–of intellectuals and bureaucrats.

1975 was an exciting time to be at Boston University’s School of Public Communication. There we were, about 30 students seeking a Master’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism. All of us thought our quest was noble, that we would become purveyors of truth, skilled fact-finders and truth-tellers in the Watergate tradition. The lessons presented were well worth the tens of thousands of dollars I had to pay for them. Forty-five years later, having reached the top of my profession, I generally despise my own industry, something I never could have predicted. Here’s why.
