My very first Kirk Douglas movie on the big screen was 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The one memory that sticks with me forever was him throwing the harpoon into the “monster.” Amazing he lived so long!

I couldn't have said it better than #3. Kirk Douglas was from an era of Hollywood that is no more, and I doubt ever will be again.

I was a little girl, when my mother took me to see Spartacus. I left the theater crying my eyes out because they crucified him at the end. You were wonderful in that role, Mr. Douglas. You were, and always will be, Spartacus. Thank you for everything you contributed to the human race. I hope those Salician ships finally came through for you.

Oh no, the last of the golden era...very sad.
I gave Burt Lancaster directions to an Alzheimer's treatment center where he was intending to visit Dana Andrews. He had a stroke there and never recovered. I didn't realize that it was Mr. Lancaster until I heard on the news that he had a stroke while visiting Dana Andrews. That's my brush with the golden age of Hollywood.

Kirk was one of the truly great screen actors.
There can't be an All-Time Top Five without his name on it.
Rest in peace, sir.
