'An unacceptable and upsetting environment':
2020 Democratic Host Committee under investigation

Original Article

The two top officials overseeing Milwaukee's host committee for the 2020 Democratic National Convention were sidelined Monday amid allegations of a toxic work culture. In a letter to staff obtained by the Journal Sentinel, the board said it had retained an attorney to investigate "concerns about the work environment" for the Milwaukee 2020 Host Committee. During the investigation, Liz Gilbert, president of the host committee, will not be in the office and "will not have direct contact with staff," the letter says. Adam Alonso, the chief of staff for the group, has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the probe.

Comments:

On the heels of the Iowa fiasco...you gotta love it! Milwaukee is going to be a hot town this summer, like Chicago '68, if this all keeps up.

These consultants/leaders from New Jersey were hiring the buddies from New Jersey. That sounds an awful lot like politics in Illinois. The entire state government is run largely on the buddy system. I think that is called cronyism. Guess who runs the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago. Hint: It isn't the GOP!

FTA: "The Democratic Party is firm in our belief that every person deserves to feel safe and respected at their place of work, and we will always take seriously claims of bullying and workplace harassment," he said. He said the claims made by employees of the host committee "present an unacceptable and upsetting environment." So, they created a hostile work environment, and the guy is also paid $15,000 per month for a consulting gig in NJ, that he was recently dumped from too?

Perhaps there’s a place for “Shoeless” Joe Jackson in baseball’s Hall of Fame, after all. Efforts to have the late and legendary player with a .356 career batting average included in baseball immortality may intensify after a recent revelation by Major League Baseball that acknowledges that a deceased player is no longer bound by the constraints of a lifetime banishment from the game.

A 7-month old’s death and two fatal shootings the day after Christmas pushed the number of people killed in Baltimore this year to 342 — the second-highest total on record. Baltimore already surpassed this week the yearly record for killings per capita, due to the city’s rapid population decline. The city’s highest number of homicides was 1993, when 353 people were killed and the city had more than 100,000 additional residents. This year’s violence also surpasses 2018, which saw 305 homicides. In both 2015 and 2017, 342 people were killed.

Subhradeep Dutta, 28, of Edina, Minnesota, died while walking on a marked dirt trail with two other people in the park north of San Francisco famous for its towering trees, according to the Marin County coroner's office and a spokesman for the park. Dutta was pinned by the trunk of the 200-foot-tall (61-meter-tall) tree and died at the scene. The trunk measured more than 4 feet (1 meter) in diameter.

Former FBI lawyer Lisa Page said President Donald Trump lied about her and former FBI agent Peter Strzok during his rally Tuesday night in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where he once again mocked and derided the pair for disparaging remarks they made about him in text messages. At the rally, Trump claimed, without evidence, that Page had taken out a restraining order against Strzok. "That's what I heard. I don't know," Trump said. "This is a lie," Page said in a tweet responding to a clip of Trump's comments.

The Russian flag and anthem will again be absent from the Olympic Games next summer after a ruling handed down by the World Anti-Doping Agency on Monday. WADA's 12-member executive committee voted unanimously to implement a four-year international sports ban on Russia, punishment that had been proposed by its compliance review committee last month after WADA investigators found that the country tampered with drug-testing data earlier this year.

The Democrat-led House Intelligence Committee late Tuesday voted to adopt and issue its scathing report on the findings from the panel's impeachment inquiry, accusing President Trump of misusing his office to seek foreign help in the 2020 presidential race. The 13-9 party-line vote on the 300-page report was a necessary step before the document could be transferred to the House Judiciary Committee... However, a senior member of Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's leadership team told Fox News in the evening that it seems unlikely the House can vote on impeachment before Christmas, saying it's "too complex" a process.

And for the first time, President Donald Trump has surged ahead of all four top Democratic rivals in potential head-to-head matchups. Just 40% of Wisconsin registered voters believe Trump should be impeached and removed from office, while 53% disagreed, according to the survey. The poll of 801 registered Wisconsin voters was conducted Nov. 13 through Sunday, during the opening week of public hearings in the House impeachment inquiry.

The Iowa caucus data operation just crashed and burned. That means that it could take days to get find out who actually won the Democratic contest – the first of the 2020 presidential election cycle. Gobsmacked candidates have come out to throw confetti, drop balloons, and declare "on to New Hampshire!" There's nothing else to do except to declare victory and move on. No one really knows, right? Joe Biden's lawyers have sent the Iowa caucus organizers a sternly worded letter ordering them not to reveal the winner until the results are cleared with them.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg has been nominated for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize by two Swedish lawmakers. Thunberg, 17, captured global attention for leading a student strike in her home country of Sweden to raise awareness about climate change. Jens Holm and Hakan Svenneling, both members of Sweden's Left Party, argued that Thunberg’s international tour to combat climate change is worthy of the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize. In nominating Thunberg, Holm and Svenneling said the teenager had “worked hard to make politicians open their eyes to the climate crisis.” They argued that reducing emissions and complying with the Paris Agreement is “an act of making peace.”

Wow, that was one hell of a State of the Union Address. President Trump seized the center with a powerful, patriotic and utterly centrist speech. And then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reinforced his message with her oh-so-symbolic ripping up of the text. What, other than channeling the alienation of the Democratic base from the great American center, was she thinking? This was the very best of Trump — generous, bipartisan (with a few barbs) and good-spirited. He not only got congressional Democrats to stand and cheer, but he also credited the legislators in the room for working together across party lines to do right by America.

As I was about to begin writing about the sun shining on President Trump's re-election efforts, a dark cloud passed over my Twitter feed announcing that Rush Limbaugh has advanced lung cancer and will be taking time off for medical treatment. What terrible news for the 30 million–plus weekly "Ditto-heads," faithful listeners to his daily three-hour commentary on news, politics, sports, and popular culture. Rush "made the complex understandable," as he liked to say, using irreverent humor to make his points. It was effortless for Rush, doing all of this with "half his brain tied behind his back."
