WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is coming out Thursday with new visa restrictions aimed at restricting “birth tourism,” in which women travel to the U.S. to give birth so their children can have a coveted U.S. passport.
Visa applicants deemed by consular officers to be coming to the U.S. primarily to give birth will now be treated like other foreigners coming to the U.S. for medical treatment, according to State Department guidance sent Wednesday and viewed by The Associated Press. The applicants will have to prove they are coming for medical treatment and they have the money to pay for it.
The State Department planned to publicize the rules Thursday,

That's a small start. What about the illegals that are here and become pregnant? If the parents are illegals, then the child should not become a U.S. citizen.

How about amending that birthright citizenship amendment? It served its purpose long ago, and is no longer needed. That alone would cut out a lot of abuse.

Here come the screeches from the fake “compassion” crowd. The same crowd that worships at the altar of abortion.

What is so hard about the citizenship of the child following that of it's parents? Regardless of where in the world they are born. A french Poodle born in Germany is still a French Poodle...not a German Shepherd.
This should NEVER have been an issue.

One can only imagine the hysteria from the Left about how inhuman it is to prevent poor pathetic pregnant women from giving birth on our soil. Instead of labeling these women as ‘pregnant’ we should call them pending or incomplete abortions. According to liberals there is no life until the mother declares after birth that she will let the baby live. Problem solved.

Part of the reason these women do this is because they are then allowed to bring their whole family into this country once their Baby is a Citizen. THAT is what should be stopped. if the woman has the Baby here, she should be sent back as soon as it's safe for her to travel. The word will get out fast! Anchor Babies need to be a thing of the past and the mother should not be able to step to the front of the line of Illegals waiting to enter this country just because she had the Baby here!

This is a bit like cutting out free tooth brushes, when what you need to do is stop handing out free candy.
The ridiculous offer of free citizenship to all adults in a family with the birth of a baby is why they are coming....perhaps why she got pregnant to begin with.

Re#3. Not in disagreement...... but the constitution would have to be amended. 200+ years ago, a pregnant woman would not have embarked on a months long voyage to the US for birthright citizenship and welfare.

As I understand things, this whole matter has come about as a result of the unseemly and just plain WRONG deference to gangs of nitwits-in-black-robes, the loathsome legalists who stink up the overwhelming majority of the judiciary at all levels. The 14th Amendment was, properly yet generally vainly, enacted in order to ensure full citizenship rights for the newly freed slaves after the War Between The States, a matter that ended well over 150 years ago!, and is no longer germane. Yet, leaving an avenue for legalist creeps to -- wrongfully --- impose their whims upon the nation.
There is one, and really only one adequate remedy. (leaving aside, temporarily, the pleasant thought of hanging a whole lot of judges). REPEAL the 14th Amendment!. Immediately if not sooner. The idiot notion of "birthright citizenship" for tourists and ILLEGAL ALIENS was NEVER intended, NEVER part of the understanding until relatively recently and that as a direct result of worthless lout judges. End it, permanently. And retroactively as well.

Soon the DACA people won't have to be concerned about US citizenship. Their children will take care of it for them. Thanks again, Barack.

We certainly pay through the nose for our obamacare based on the costs of pregnancies, even if we can never get pregnant. This is the right move. Only illegal drug rehab drives our obamacare premiums up more.

One big thing to stop is chain migration. A non-citizen woman has a child in the US and the next thing her entire family is allowed to follow. Stop the chain migration and the woman and child are abandon without a family they might have the desire to travel back to their families.
Anchor babies should be banned totally and amended to stop this ridiculous law but this is a step in the right direction.

No, the 14th doesn't confer birthright citizenship. It was a laftard judge last century who said they should get citizenship if dropped here. Not the same thing. Deny them citizenship, let them sue as you know the leftards will. Tell 'em tough. Take it to scotus.

Better than this is ENDING the 'birthright citizenship' baloney. If a person is not a citizen, it should make NO difference if the child is born here. NONE. Illegals and tourists should not get citizenship for their children automatically, that is just stupid as hell.

Exactly, #s17, 15 and 16. All great comments, and the thing is, they are common sense, rational statements.
Our problem is that we can not reason with the democrats who have allowed themselves to become yoked to the Left and are being dragged around down a dead-end path.

When you think of those crossing the border, you think of CA and states along the border. FL is not only full of those crossing the southern border, but half of the Caribbean. Every day you see Latina women who are not only pregnant but have 3 or 4 toddlers. They laugh at us while they get into a new $60k truck with fathers working for cash. It's sickening. Haitians tend to have seven kids.
We need a cap on food assistance because they more kids, the more money. The feds need to stop funding churches who help illegals.
It is an election year. When politicians come to our districts with lies and promises, it is up to US to pressure them. If you are up to it- run for office.

These are the only babies the left wants to survive, the rest are totally disposable - even after birth.
