One of President Donald Trump’s strongest supporters on cable news and Capitol Hill was surprisingly excluded from his impeachment defense team — and he has suspicions as to why.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) was widely believed to have been a front-runner to join a select group of House Republicans to defend the president through media outreach and providing consultation to his legal team, but he was snubbed.
In an interview with Politico, Gaetz said he wasn’t entirely sure why he was kept off the team, but he has been told by someone in the White House that Eric Ueland, the legislative affairs director, was “responsible for the brushback.”

I don’t agree with Matt’s views on the war powers act but he is allowed certainly to have an opinion that Trump doesn’t share. Let’s not take the blind loyalty requirement to extremes and snub true allies. Disappointing if true.

The Dems tried to limit Trump's war powers in a bid to make his actions look bad. They had no problem with Obama ding the same thing. Now this Gaetz guy sides with the Dems, and chooses this sleazy crud to do it.
Meanwhile every left leaning news outlet is starting their reporting by calling him "Trump's staunchest supporter..." They are basically ALL saying that.
I'm guessing that Gaetz is a lightweight opportunist and Trump sees this, preferring better people on his team. Trump is known for being good at reading people, or so they say.

Anyone who has been around government for very long knows that free thought is punished, and every act of disloyalty will have lifelong consequences. The democrats know it. Republicans seem to be a bit slow.

If I remember correctly he didn't just disagree with Trump, he disagreed loudly and violently. So, no,you don't need a loose cannon on your team. Disagreements with your team should be done respectfully and behind the scenes.

If Matt can't stop himself from siding with the dems on something as basic as the president's right to make a decision regarding a military strike somewhere, who is to say that he wouldn't succumb to the dems on something during impeachment? You shot your own foot Matt, and have no one else to blame. You do not tie a president's hands, and that is what the democrats tried, and Matt helped. Sorry kid, no sympathy here.

Frankly, I was pleased that he was passed over. For me, it's not so much a trust issue. I just find him somewhat offputting and not the best public messenger.

What Gaetz failed to understand was that this was not a bill but a Dem chance to take a swing at Trump. It was not a serious effort to change the law but to zing Trump. Mr big britches Gaetz thought he would get lauded for his stunt but now he might better understand how DC works. A team player does not run his own plays.

It was a useless opportunity to go against the President and side with anti-American leftists who were not concerned about any war powers. The point of the vote was to slam the President, and Matt seemed to have forgotten who the slimy leftists are and the war we are fighting against a well-known and established enemy of the US. By enemy, I mean the elected leftists in the Congress, not the Iranians.

I appreciate Mat's unbridled enthusiasm, but that's the problem, he's a bit too unbridled and a bit too enthusiastic. I think its more effective to be a bit more subdued (Victor Davis Hanson comes to mind). When VDH speaks, I hang on his every word. Gaetz is sort of the Hannity of the House.

Slip that blade in once, Matt, not to be trusted again. Maybe ever. Certainly for a long time.
That vote was total BS, and stupid, too.

Lesson Learned. Words have consequences Matt! I would have loved to have Matt on that Impeachment Team. I just like looking at him, he's Gorgeous! But, he was also a great addition to the Republican's side in the House. Too bad this had to happen!

...Trump is allowed to have anyone on his own legal team that HE chooses, Rep. Gaetz.
What a whiny baby. We watched that vote and we know exactly why Gaetz did it.

I was wondering about this. Doesn't make sense if it's true. I would have loved seeing Matt Gaetz air his vowels unchecked in front of Adam Schiff-head and his leftist minions of doom!!
