One of the most famous lines about waiting is naturally enough from the movie Casablanca: "And so a tortuous, round-about refugee trail sprang up. Paris to Marseilles, across the Mediterranean to Oran [in Algeria], then by train or auto or foot across the rim of Africa to Casablanca in French Morocco. Here the fortunate ones through money or influence or luck might obtain exit visas and scurry to Lisbon, and from Lisbon to the New World. But the others wait in Casablanca, and wait...and wait...and wait." Waiting for disaster is often worse than "getting it over with." Two years ago Dr. Peter Ward of the U.S. Geological Survey

It is totally, baselessly, ignorantly foolish to worry about CO2 emissions. It is counterfactual to call them pollution, as they are not pollution. Distorting and damaging your economy for a scam like MMGW is very different than Bali loosing tourist income due to the volcano. The volcano is potentially a real disaster. MMGW is an invented "disaster", with political motives, and intended to only produce political power, not safety from any actual problem.

Antifa Infiltrator? Gun Rallygoers Turn
on Protester Who Urges Violence

Rallygoers at the Virginia capital pro-Second Amendment Lobby Day have been on high alert for several days leading up to the event and warning one another that infiltrators from Antifa or other anti-gun groups could be in their crowd posing as pro-gun, but stirring up trouble and violence. An incident occurred at the Richmond rally that has some people wondering if they've just discovered one of these opposition plants. The video below shows a thin man wearing army-style clothing and claiming to be a libertarian while encouraging someone who is speaking to "start a revolution right now" and "hop that fence and kill that guy."

“The very concept of objective truth is fading out of the world,” wrote George Orwell in a 1943 essay, Looking Back on the Spanish War. “Lies will pass into history.” A truer thing was never said about the current omnipresence of the Lie. Of course, everybody lies. That the vast majority of politicians lie, almost as a matter of principle, is common knowledge. But I had not grasped until relatively late that the Lie—in majuscule—had become so pervasive that it could be said to constitute a public if unofficial institution. Orwell said that truth had ceased to exist in 1936, an exaggeration made for emphasis,

The Florida Legislature’s annual session is barely under way, and the National Rifle Association’s Marion Hammer already is angry. That’s a good sign. It means Sen. Tom Lee of Thonotosassa is headed in the right direction with modest legislation that would require background checks of more gun buyers. The proposed requirements should be more robust, but they may reflect what is politically possible at the moment and they would be an improvement over the status quo. Lee, who has an independent streak, was handed the unenviable assignment by Senate President Bill Galvano to come up with a response to the August mass shootings at a Walmart in El Paso,

BOSTON — Alex Cora has already been identified as a ringleader in an illegal system of sign stealing when he was with the Houston Astros. The Red Sox didn't wait to see what punishment Major League Baseball might give him for possibly bringing a similar scheme with him to Boston. Cora was fired by the team he led to the 2018 World Series title on Tuesday night, one day after baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said he was "an active participant" in the Astros' cheating when he was a bench coach in Houston. Ads by ZEDO Manfred mentioned Cora by name 11 times in a nine-page report, saying he "originated and executed" the scheme

Could it be this bad? Lee Smith argues that the Iran nuclear deal was actually part of a deal to make Iran the new regional power in the Middle East. (Snip) If you flip political sides, the Democrats' accusations against Trump are equally bad. He is variously portrayed as a stooge for Russia, the henchman of Putin, a blackmailer of Ukraine to frame Joe Biden, or the provocateur of war with Iran to distract from his own impeachment. Whether such crimes have actually been committed by either side can be debated; what is undeniable is the animus of mutual accusations. The blood-feuds of the old world are here;
New Zealand schools to teach students

Every school in New Zealand will this year have access to materials about the climate crisis written by the country’s leading science agencies – including tools for students to plan their own activism, and to process their feelings of “eco-anxiety” over global heating. The curriculum will put New Zealand at the forefront of climate change education worldwide; governments in neighbouring Australia and the United Kingdom have both faced criticism for lack of cohesive teaching on the climate crisis. The New Zealand scheme, which will be offered to all schools that teach 11 to 15 year-old students, will not be compulsory, the government said.

Iran's people barely can scrape together enough calories to keep body and soul together in the big cities, while entire parts of rural Iran are emptying out as rivers and wells go dry. Things are so bad that the number of babies born in Iran has fallen by nearly 25% in the past five years. Only Venezuela is worse off -- but the wicked Maduro government remains in power. Regimes that are willing to shoot their people dead in the streets (as Iran shot 1,500 protesters last November) can cling to power even under desperate material circumstances. As I wrote at Asia Times yesterday: "One average salary pays

It seems as though every day brings us something new out of Virginia relating to their now Democrat-led legislators and gun laws. What’s the latest? State Delegate Dan Helmer filed a bill this past Wednesday that would allow the Attorney General, Mark Herring, the ability to determine which states’ concealed carry permits Virginia would continue to recognize, and potentially making it almost impossible for people to protect themselves if they do not live in Virginia. Not that they plan to let Virginians protect themselves either. It appears that this would include members of the military that are stationed at one of the many Virginia bases.

A bug in the code of a Facebook update rolled out last week accidentally made it possible to see which accounts were responsible for posts to Facebook Pages, including those of celebrities and politicians, for a period of several hours. "All it took to exploit the bug was opening a target page and checking the edit history of a post. Facebook mistakenly displayed the account or accounts that made edits to each post, rather than just the edits themselves," explained Wired. Facebook was quick to post a fix, thanks to a security reacher who alerted them to the big. "We quickly fixed an issue where someone could see who edited

World War 3 with Iran in retaliation for the killing of terror mastermind Qasem Soleimani failed to materialize. Instead Iran fired about a dozen missiles at airfields hosting US fores in Sunni and Kurdish areas of Iraq and despite deadly intent failed to cause casualties. Content with that bootless result the ayatollahs offered to end the cycle of retaliation, at least for now, citing their generous and forgiving nature. The abrupt de-escalation of military conflict caused by the actual impracticability of open war left inflamed political passions with nowhere to go. So they burst their channels in various ways. The reaction to Soleimani's death has proved more

Hillary Clinton opened up about her marital struggles with Bill Clinton in an upcoming documentary about the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee. “I didn’t want anything to do with him,” Clinton said, appearing to tear up, in a trailer of the four-part series which premieres in March on Hulu. The Clintons’ marriage faced a difficult period when Bill had an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky during his presidency. He initially denied the affair under oath, which led to his impeachment in December 1998. Months earlier, Chelsea Clinton, who was 18 years old around the time the Lewinsky scandal played out, put herself between her parents

Prince Harry has spoken of his 'great sadness that it has come to this' as he breaks his silence this evening over Megxit and laments it was not possible to find the new life he wanted. The Duke of Sussex was at a formal private dinner at the Ivy, in Chelsea, for vulnerable children's charity Sentebale, which founded in 2006, when he made the comments. In an emotional speech, the 35-year-old said that the UK is a place that he loves and that will 'never change' but that he had 'no other option' than to quit senior royal duties. Harry also paid a stirring tribute to his grandmother, calling her his 'commander-in- chief'

Over the last one hundred years, the British Royal Family has generously provided the world with a parade of scandals more colorful and louder than the socks they wear with their kilts. But the Meghan and Harry rupture is fundamentally different from any previous crisis to befall the British monarchy. (Snip) The roadside bomb in the royal family named Meghan Markle exploded not because of immoral conduct in the conventional sense. Tens of thousands of people converged in the streets of Richmond, Virginia, on Monday to protest their right to bear arms in the face of swingeing state gun control laws set to be enacted later this year. They started arriving before dawn – army veterans, stay-at-home-moms, attorneys, welders, democrats, republicans – united under banners defending the second amendment and, they believe, a constitution under attack. And many of them came with their guns: AR-15s, long-guns and handguns. Governor Ralph Northam had issued a ban on a list of weapons including guns on Capitol Grounds
