As Prince Harry prepares to be reunited with his wife and son in Canada, the country's biggest newspaper has told them they are not welcome to live there.
In a scathing editorial, The Globe and Mail said: 'Canada is not a halfway house for anyone looking to get out of Britain while remaining a royal.'
Canada's prime minister Justin Trudeau tweeted before Christmas that Harry, Meghan and eight-month-old Archie 'were among friends, and always welcome here'.
But yesterday the nation's most influential newspaper condemned the couple's 'vague and evolving plan to move to Canada while remaining part of the Royal Family', adding: 'The Trudeau government's response should be simple and succinct: No.'

Wow. Harry and his wife certainly have put their foot in it. Maybe the Queen is letting them learn the hard way to not bite the hand that feeds you. They expected to be welcomed in any country with open arms and cheering crowds. Reality is countries do not want to host them and all their baggage. Harry’s decision to save his family from the paparazzi rings hollow when his wife is doing staged photo ops while he is trying to clean up the mess they made of it. Had they buckled down and done their duty, they could have had a wonderful life and their son would have had an extended family to enjoy. Now they have just ostracized themselves and made any possible reconciliation more difficult. The British people love the monarchy but they do not tolerate lazy entitled royals who want the benefits and none of the duties. Harry and Megs just look like childish brats.

And stay out of the US, grifters, regardless of whether Donny two-scoops is still in office. I hear Venezuela is beautiful, however. Try there.

I’m confused. How can the Globe and Mail be conservative and be the most read paper in Canada? This article mentions it twice. Isn’t that an oxymoron - isn’t Canada filled with left-wingers? How could the most popular newspaper be conservative in a population that keeps electing the likes of Pajama Boi Trudeau?

I've been waiting for this reaction. Canadians are quietly more nationalistic than most suppose. However, both newspapers get it wrong.
The Daily Mail is incorrect in calling the Globe and Mail a conservative newspaper. It isn't. The National Post, founded by the irreplaceable Conrad Black, is Canada's conservative alternative.
The Globe and Mail, on the other hand, is talking nonsense. There are no serious constitutional implications in Harry and Meghan emigrating to Canada.
Canada is a parliamentary democracy with its own written constitution. Queen Elizabeth II is head of state. However, she reins but does not rule. In practice, her largely ceremonial role is undertaken by the Governor General, who performs a limited number of functions, most non-political. On the rare occasions when Governors General get drawn into politics, they try to get out as quickly and cleanly as possible.
There is no role for Harry in any of this. He is simply a member of the Queen's family and a wealthy celebrity. From Canada's point of view, this is an immigration issue, not a constitutional one. Unless Harry has inherited a right of residence from his mother that I'm unaware of, he will have to apply to remain in Canada. His wife has no right of residence whatsoever. She is a tourist.
In terms of immigration law, there are many legitimate ways Harry could obtain permission to reside in Canada with his family, and he is as entitled to use them as anyone else. Half of Hong Kong bought its way into Canada in the 1990s, and a third the 3rd World appears to have immigrated into it since. Citizenship may be harder. Canadians are protective of their citizenship, and naturalization used to require a fair bit of knowledge and an examination by a judge. However, these days, who knows?

While Harry and MeMeMeAgain have definitely merited scorn for their semi-abdication, it's a little absurd for Canada to play the unwelcome card on their quest for semi-immigration. I mean, have you been to Canada lately? When I landed in Vancouver recently, I thought I had accidentally deplaned in Karachi, New Delhi, or Beijing. There aren't very many red-coated Mounties or lumberjacks around any more. The welcome mat is definitely out for any and all non-Europeans. And itinerant jihadis, I might add. Not so much apparently for white and semi-white royals.

In California in 1859 there existed a character, Joshua Abraham Norton, who proclaimed himself "Norton I, Emperor of the United States". California does that to people. Its in the water (55 gallons a day!) In Canada there exists a newspaper, fishwrap, emergency toilet paper that declares itself the biggest newspaper in that country which has in its wisdom determined that it speaks for the entire country. That is a delusion rarely seen in Canadians. That delusion is more easily recognizable as the hubris demonstrated daily by Nancy Pelosi of California (55 gallons of H2O a day to remove the excrement off the streets!) and her mouth piece The New York Times. Canada's newspaper through its editorial has declared itself Emperor, and would be enforcer of non-existent laws - irrespective that Canada already has a monarch as head of state who does none of those things. As she is from California so Nancy Pelosi suffers from the same delusions. Nancy Pelosi is in her mind head of state, secretary of state, and enforcer of non-existent laws. But the United States already has a very sane, stable genius that was lawfully elected by her citizens and who performs those same functions. The New York Times emoldened by Pelosi's delusion enables her mental illness by bestowing her actions with a hearty huzzah and two thumbs up every time Pelosi tries to pull this nonsense on the American people. Some people, I tell ya.

Meghan wanted to marry a Prince, but she doesn't want the royal lifestyle? She should have considered that before busting up the Royal family. I guess she enjoyed the 15 minutes of fame, where she welcomed all the attention.

The halway house reference is especially cognizant of the statement she made that they would return to America after Trump leaves.

No real worries for Canada, as that country is just an interim way stop for Meghan who is really on her way to Hollywood, California, USA. Where the liberal or progressive Hollywood cabal including the Clintons, the Obamas, and Winfrey will see to it that Meghan has a mansion to roost in with her baby, Harry, and her mother. Meghan’s clear objective is to cash in on Hollywood entertainment industry cash. Maybe she will also be proclaimed to be a new Queen of Hollywood?
It’s pretty elementary that Meghan as a committed California liberal progressive, a political ideology that is always trying to transform the world to what they say is best and “the right thing to do” would have no real respect for the UK Constitutional and Parliamentary Monarchy system that is seeped in centuries UK family and constitutional traditions. Apparently William attempted to warn Harry of those real complications in an effort that ended up “offending” the already p-whipped Harry.
Once Meghan and Harry establish their residence in California, a “community property” State. If Meghan, a divorced person herself, who comes from a family used to going through divorce proceedings, ever files for divorce from Harry there, a California Divorce Court Judge could easily decide that there should be a 50/50 split in Harry’s fortune, with Meghan being handed half of Harry’s millions and huge amounts of child support each month. Who knows if a California Judge could actually move half of Harry’s millions, that are obviously in England, to Meghan? In any case the involved California divorce lawyers would have a field day earning big fees. Harry has made a lot of rash decisions that could certainly come back to bite him. Too bad that Harry’s Dad, Chuck did not arrange for Harry to receive effective mental health services after his Mom, Diana was killed.

The couple only said they wanted to go to 'North America' I thought they meant Mexico since as long as Trump is President they are steering clear of the US. Hollywood was/is their real destination. What a couple of loser dweebs.

Apparently there is a 1931 law that says UK senior monarchy will not reside in Canada.
The kids clearly missed that one when they were researching their move with Meghan’s hot stuff counseling firm in Los Angeles.

I am not a fan of Harry and his bride, but it's interesting that they are not welcomed in Canada, yet Canada bends over backward to welcome muslims.

#11 is right. The Queen of Canada may visit any time but may not reside there. She is represented by the Governor General, a Canadian. By law, senior members of the royal family (including Harry and his current bride) may not reside there.
So there!
I think Meggy had to take UK citizenship to become a duchess, which I think means she isn't an American citizen any more. She can visit but not vote here. If so, that means Harry cannot get a green card simply by being married to her.
Marry in haste, repent at leisure. Oh the humanity!

Yes, #12. There is much projection going on because UK and Canada can never discuss the elephant in the room. In England’s case, the elephant in the room that grows larger every single day.

Threaten to send Bieber to Britain in exchange. That might make the Brits beg for Harry and Meg to stay.

Ruh-roh. Bad press from Canada. Oh, the horror! Meghan is on the fast track to becoming the Biggest Loser in the Popularity Poll (Normal World division.) There may come a time when she'll have to work hard to be as well-liked as Kathy Griffith. Harry, on the other hand, may redeem himself by turning on her once the (inevitable) divorce papers are filed. He was dearly loved in the UK, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them welcome him back with open arms if he returns from the dark side sufficiently chastened. And since I'm confident she'll outlive the marriage, Granny certainly will.

Perfect! The little strumpet thought she had the world wrapped around her gold digging fingers. Right after her wedding, then honeymoon, the newly minted 'duchess' flew solo to Canada. Rather strange I thought at the time, considering that they had just returned to England. She probably could not stand anything any longer after she did not get all she had wanted. Right, the Queen should have given this nobody all the royal jewels, castles, cars, art collection etc. After all, the Hollywood nobody had come to England. I believe that as far back as then she had planed her escape. The child is an afterthought. She stated after her engagement that they wanted to wait a few years. Right! She needed an ace to make Harry jump and crawl. The first big fight they have will be the last and I believe it will be over. Well, one can hope. Other than Hollywood this dame will not be welcomed anywhere. This outrageously ungrateful 'escape' was made out as if she had to endure a sex slave prison in Saudi Arabia. Harry should have informed her this is not done to the Queen, who had just paid for this wedding. This 'actress' supposedly' wanted to become a princess all her life.... well, start behaving with better manners you Hollywood tart!

Now, an opportunity to see the "power" of the British press. Basically, they are saying, "Welcome, but move on."
