Astros fire manager A.J. Hinch and GM
Jeff Luhnow in wake of MLB punishment

Any doubts that the Houston Astros illegally used technology to steal signs during the 2017 season, which culminated with them beating the Dodgers in the World Series, were put to rest Monday upon Major League Baseball revealing the results of its investigation into the allegations. The question is no longer if the Astros cheated. It’s to what extent did the cheating help them topple the Dodgers in seven games. In a detailed nine-page report outlining an investigation into the sign-stealing allegations, commissioner Rob Manfred said general manager Jeff Luhnow and manager A.J. Hinch were suspended for the 2020 season. (Snip)Astros owner Jim Crane announced he had fired Luhnow and Hinch.

Although this involved others and players, these two knew of it and did nothing. They were held responsible. Cora, now of the Boston Red Sox, was a part of team management at the time and was said to have devised the scheme. His fate will be revealed later...

Players and managers have tried and successfully stolen signals since Doubleday invented the freaking game. Now it's against the rules?

I always thought that such activity was part of the charm of the game. And the silly various motions of the third base coach or first base coach - ear rubbing, tugging, nose rubbing, tugging, butt rubbing, arm rubbing, all are part of the charm.

The problem is not the charge of "stealing signs" which has been around as long as the game has been played. The difference is the use of technology by the home team to give one side an unfair advantage that the other does not have. Alex Cora had the Red Sox use Apple Watches to relay stolen signs in 2017, A.J. Hinch needs to make room for Cora. He's next.

So if the Astros cheated during the 2017 World Series, which they won with the help of cheating, shouldn't they be stripped of the 20127 title? Give it to the Dodgers. Now THAT would send a message loud & clear to everyone.

From the article it appears the cheating was only possible because of the media camera in center field, which has a clear view of the signals. The solution is obvious, innit? Just make a rule that the zoom shots of the catcher's crotch are no longer allowed.

My problem with vacating the title is the same as when Lance Armstrong was caught.. how do we know others weren't also cheating as well? They only got caught because someone spilled the beans.

Yesterday, Michael Flynn’s attorney, Sidney Powell, filed a Motion to Withdraw his Guilty Plea, arguing the government breached its obligations under the plea agreement the retired general had entered with the special counsel’s office in late 2017. Prosecutors had promised in that plea agreement to “file a departure motion pursuant to Section 5K1.1 of the Sentencing Guidelines” if Flynn provided substantial assistance to the government. The government kept that pledge—until it didn’t. On December 4, 2018, prosecutors working for the special counsel’s office filed a Memorandum in Aid of Sentencing, stating that the government has moved for a downward departure pursuant to Section 5K1.1, to reflect Flynn’s “substantial assistance to the government.”

You have to give credit to congressional Democrats for one thing: They are an extremely hopeful bunch. After years of Russia investigations aimed at toppling Donald Trump, they came away with what Grandmother would have called “bupkis.” But, not daunted, they quickly latched onto a whistleblower report about a phone call with Ukraine, and launched an up tempo effort, one last-ditch attempt to take the president down. The result of this exertion did include a vote to impeach Trump, (Snip). But wait! Now former National Security Adviser John Bolton has agreed to testify if called, and the Democrats are racing toward Lucy again, confident this time she won’t move the football.

Mainstream liberal Democrats and their allies in the media have made clear that “demographics is destiny,” and that destiny favors Democrats. It’s easy enough to see why they believe this: nonwhites constituted 15 percent of the population in 1960, by 2050 that will have risen to 53 percent, and nonwhites vote overwhelmingly for Democrats. The answer most mainstream conservatives have to this challenge is to try harder. Convince nonwhites to vote for conservative candidates, even if that means giving up all the entitlements that Democrats have used for decades to purchase votes and create dependency. It’s a tough sell. Not-so-mainstream conservatives are as likely to give up as to try harder.
