Obama Should Never
Have Appeased Iran

Original Article

After Iran’s turn from ally to enemy in 1978, the U.S. pursued a de facto Iran policy of containment, similar to the U.S. approach to the Soviet Union during Cold War. Starting with the Obama administration, however, U.S. policy has seesawed between appeasement and confrontation, leading to a dangerously volatile situation. Though it was never formalized, the strategy that came together under the administration of George W. Bush (I served at the Pentagon and in the Senate during this time) had three pillars. First, impose prohibitive penalties on Iran’s nuclear advance. Second, bolster America’s allies on Iran’s periphery—and particularly America’s precious alliance with Iraq—to prevent any Iranian threat to their security

Come on Atlantic, you knew what he was from his own words in his books. He promised to stand with his muslim brothers when the ill winds blew. He armed rebels and sent money to Iran. Yet you all protected him then, and still protect him now. How many Mexican citizens were murdered with the guns Obama gave to the cartels? At least 200 and that is years ago I saw that number. This flatulence is beyond hypocrisy on the part of Atlantic. By the way, just who was president back then when they turned? That's right, the second worst president in our history, 1 termer Jimmy Carter. He created the whole mess with his condescending bumbling by undermining the Shah. The Shah was trying to bring his nation into the 20th century, and Carter condemned those people to a life of slavery and terror instead. How nice of him.

Obama did not appease Iran because he loved them (although Jarrett has a real affection for the country that provided a safe haven for her father when he felt himself in jeopardy of prosecution for treason). Obama was just nurturing, providing aid and comfort, to what he adjudged to be the most likely source of anti-American terror and mayhem. At his core, Obama is about hate - presently focused on Great Satan America, but really just general hate, pretty much in harmony with the Muslim jihadists.

"The killing of an American without plausible deniability is a redline the government of Iran is not likely to cross again anytime soon." I think that kind of sums it up. It's so obvious that even The Atlantic can see it.

"Though it was surely not his intention, Obama’s strategy in many ways boiled down to appeasement. " Either BO was a traitor to his Country or he was a moron. Probably both. "The U.S. only reacted with force when Iran openly orchestrated a series of attacks on the U.S. embassy in Baghdad and other installations in Iraq that left an American dead." Having an unequivocal reason to takeout Soleimani enabled the US to take righteous action. Even then, notice how the traitorous dems have responded. If Trump had acted when the Saudi oil fields had been attacked, it would have been the "blood for oil" argument which would have found some sympathy. Now there is little sympathy because they killed an American. Trump has made it crystal clear that the Iranian tactics of attacking Americans carries an enormous price, one the leaders of Iran have to be very personally aware of. He has shrunk the box they are in and reinforced it with steel. They are being economically crushed and they cannot use their military as effectively as they used to. "as Iran finds new ways of forcing America to choose between appeasement and a war that no American wants" This is a false choice set up the purveyors of the stupid strategy that has kept this conflict unresolved for 40 years and allowed Iran to become the terrorist threat it now is. Iran is NOT a military threat to the US. If we attack them with clear purpose, they will be annihilated. Appeasement will only lead to them with a nuclear weapon and able to do a lot more damage. NOW is the time to stop them, once and for all, no matter what it takes. IF, IF we can stop them through economic sanctions, measured military steps, and encouragement of internal resistance, that is great. However, appeasement is NOT a solution. War WILL be a solution if necessary, we should commit to a swift and overwhelming victory, complete destruction of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, and LEAVE with a threat of a repeat engagement if Iran starts it's terrorist efforts again. However, there can be another way, overwhelming pressure and demanding real, measurable change. It also wouldn't hurt to arrest Jon Carry for treason.

More of the same hidebound, inside-the-box thinking that landed us in this ME mess to begin with. Kind of like the definition of insanity - go back to doing the same old things we did in Mario's day that did not work then, and hope that they somehow magically work now. Nonsense. Underestimates the Trump admin and the real-world options actually available.

My wife used to teach Kindergartners. Any random sampling of any of her classes about any subject would be more entertaining and thought provoking than reading another Atlantic article on politics, world history, or current events. The usual dead hand bias of their writers is incredibly boring.

CNN and the Des Moines Register are co-hosting the seventh Democratic debate tonight. But one front-runner won’t be attending this or any debate. His name is Michael Bloomberg. Bloomberg has met the four-poll threshold to attend the January debate, but he is forced to sit out because he has vowed not to take campaign contributions. The Democratic National Committee requires a whopping 225,000 unique donors to qualify to get on stage. This rule, however, contravenes the party's values regarding money in politics. There was a time, not too long ago, when the most popular candidates, as evident in polls, made it on stage, but those days are long gone.

During the course of the investigation, we learned that the shooter posted a message on Sep. 11th of this year stating ‘The countdown has begun.'” Barr went on to say that the shooter had posted anti-American and anti-Israeli messages online including just two hours before the attack. The curious campaign of Michael Bloomberg raises a question: Can a billionaire buy the Democratic nomination? In his late bid for the nomination that skips the first four contests, which historically launch the nominee, Bloomberg has placed a big bet that big bucks can overcome all. Bloomberg has a history of short-circuiting the traditional political process and winning. The hallmarks of his victorious mayoral races in New York City were an overwhelming financial advantage, a blizzard of ads that saturated the airwaves, piecing together a disparate coalition, and little personal contact with voters.

Just 45 people showed up to Bloomberg's latest rally with TV star Judge Judy Sheindlin in Texas on Saturday, according to the New York Post. “Unlike everyone else in this race, I think what’s important is beating Donald Trump,” Bloomberg told the sparse crowd of fewer than 50 people in San Antonio. In choosing between the two Democratic Party candidates atop the polls, African American voters have a consequential decision to make: Will our community side with former Vice President Joe Biden, who has repeatedly betrayed black voters to side with Republican lawmakers and undermine our progress? Or will we stand with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and a movement that has been fighting for racial and economic justice since the civil rights era? This critical choice is illustrated by the key differences between Biden and Sanders – which began at the beginning of their respective careers.

Vatican City — Retired Pope Benedict XVI has coauthored a new book defending the Catholic Church's practice of a celibate priesthood, in a shocking move that comes as Pope Francis is considering the possibility of allowing older, married men to be ordained as priests in the Amazon region. According to excerpts from the volume released Jan. 12 by the conservative French outlet Le Figaro, the ex-pontiff says he could not remain silent on the issue as Francis is contemplating the move, which was requested by the bishops from the nine-nation Amazon region at October's Vatican synod gathering. The book is co-written with Cardinal Robert Sarah,

Dozens of hard-line militia members gathered outside the British Embassy in Iran on Sunday, chanting “Death to England,” and calling for the ambassador to be expelled and the embassy closed. The protests in Tehran followed British Ambassador Rob Macaire’s arrest for attending a Saturday night vigil for the victims of the Ukrainian passenger plane that Iran admitted it accidentally shot down earlier this week. All 176 people on board were killed. Macaire, who has been Britain’s envoy to Iran since March 2018, left the vigil after it became a demonstration -- but Iranian authorities later arrested him on allegations that he helped to incite the anti-government protest.
