News organizations intent on framing news events to meet their ideological predispositions should carefully consider the legal fallout from last year’s coverage of the Covington Catholic high school students. It is risky to force news reporting into partisan sociopolitical templates.
CNN has agreed to settle a lawsuit filed earlier this year by Nicholas Sandmann, the high school student who became the focal point of news coverage when a Native American demonstrator encountered Sandmann and his classmates in Washington, D.C. That coverage, by CNN and other major news outlets, was extensive and sensational, sending the nation into an unnecessary uproar.
Sandmann was originally characterized by journalists as the aggressor

Don't stop with CNN. Continue to all the other fake news outlets.

Since every reporter that ran with this story didn’t feel any pain from this settlement, it will continue. Only if they had been fired or made to pay the damages themselves would they start changing.

CNN got out while the getting was good. I have a feeling the Washington Post is going to feel the pain they so richly deserve. The kid was innocent and these media organizations made a concerted effort to destroy him. I hope anyone else named in the suit will have to cough up plenty. It’s time to hold the seemingly unaccountable, accountable.

While the government cannot Constitutionally take action against a rogue, 5th column media, there is no reason NGO's cannot. Maybe we should steal a page from the Left and sue them out of existence. We don't have to legally win, we just need to be willing to pay enough money to bury them in lawsuits. A little care would be needed to avoid getting targeted as a nuisance but with the current unprofessional state of media, fertile areas to pursue should abound. An organization patterned like Judicial Watch but dedicated to media oversight. Even sustained investigation like requests for documentation can be crippling. Envision the Slimes enshrouded in a cloud of Black Flies.
As to getting to the reporters, if enough lawsuits involve a specific reporter, you can bet that, eventually, it will negatively impact that reporter. Organizations don't like to shelter people who are lightning rods for lawsuits.

IMHO, there are any number of ways to 'motivate' news organizations to actually be news organizations, and tell all sides of any story or issue. Financial pain probably will get the quickest results. It will take time for the general public to trust again. Many people I know have been through rough spots in relationships where one or both have been unfaithful, but there is a desire to save what once was beautiful, strong, and healthy. Some make it....some don't.
As great a concern for me, is how our children and grandchildren get their information. When I get on my google browser, or yahoo, or my internet provider, multiple one or two sentence summaries of some very complex and nuanced issues spout out the correct way I need to think. This is what the kids see! I have the time to read deeper, and research things to find more information which I believe gives me a more clear view than a one-line banner.
Some of this is changing, but the pendulum swings slowly, and often too far the other (or both) ways. Without sounding condescending about it, I pray about it, (to whatever God is to me....my business), and try to do the next right thing. Again, IMHO.

As I recall, the kid's lawyer has already said this is not over, not by a long shot. They are going after other networks as well, but the trial dates haven't been set yet. Most of the problems of the current media can be laid at the feet of two men named Woodward and Bernstein. Those two, along with their source, changed the media forever and toppled a president. They cannot do that now with the public being able to use the internet to fact check them.

FTA: ''The terms of the settlement have not been disclosed and likely never will.''
Somewhere out there, there must be someone in the know and will leak the numbers. I hope it hurts lying, fake news cnn till the cows come home.

CNN will forever be known as a National Enquirer type organization. They've chosen sides. Not an objective news organization.

Why are we burdened with CNN broadcasts in airports, and forced buying on cable bundles? This needs to stop. This is forced purchasing, which is the only purchasers CNN has.

More Fake News!! FTA: "CNN has agreed to settle a lawsuit filed earlier this year by Nicholas Sandmann,"
Since this was published on the eighth day of the year, it is highly unlikely that the lawsuit was filed earlier this year. Are there no editors anymore?

Settlements are largely to avoid litigation expenses and the uncertainty of outcome, and they are generally driven by the insurance companies, not the policy holders. The agreement doubtless contains language accepted by both parties to the effect that the settlement is not an admission of any wrongdoing.

CNN's internal communications must have been even worse than their reporting and tweets for them to settle. [Of course, it is in Sandmann's team's interest to take an early settlement with a big name MSM outlet. Pour encourager les autres.

The stupidity of CNN and the other left wing media outlets is beyond words. Here's a suggestion for the DNC-media team for the future: If you remove the bright red MAGA hat or Trump reference from the equation is the story still newsworthy? Applying this simple rule will prevent the parent companies from shelling out untold millions for journalistic malpractice.
Then again...it's fun watching them squirm on the hook.

How many insurance companies are there out there insuring media outlets from this kind of lawsuit? I would assume not many. If this is the case, these payouts will effect stock value, and the stockholders will revolt by either selling or threatening to sell stock, forcing the companies to cut these lying media outlets loose. Then, the next set of lawsuits would break the bank.

The real question: where are the adults with skin (i.e., investments) in the news business? Any semi-interested investor can see that this decline in the media has been going on for years. I am stunned that major stock holders and boards haven't held CEOs and Editors accountable for the ever-declining audiences and readers of this stuff. Then again, perhaps these "news" organizations are being financially rewarded by cable companies, etc. who bundle their services without giving the consumer a choice. We can only hope that eventually cable and TV services companies will offer selective menu services, and Americans that think CNN et al are worthless can opt out.

Yep. Fake News has it's price. Let's hope this is just the beginning of a trend to hold the lying Enemedia to the fire and extract lots of penance from their wallets.

Why don’t we invest in our own network?
We need a truly conservative news network
They have3 from sunup to sundown
Their daily drumbeat of abc nbc cbs
Fox News on cable is one thing but...
Like # 5 says it’s for our kids and grandkids
A nationwide network of truthful reporting
Come on $$$$$$$$$ we can do it!
Don’t let the influence-peddlers dominate
Don’t let the abc nbc cbs liars dominate us

It's 1 down and 2 to go; the total sum of the lawsuit hovered around $800 million. CNN is probably paying a sliver of their share. They messed with Lin Wood ~ too bad, so sad; he will drag them thru every appellate hole if they try that number.
