Borden is filing for bankruptcy protection, the second major US dairy to do so in as many months.
American refrigerators are increasingly stocked with milk substitutes made from soy or almonds, hammering traditional milk and cheese producers like Borden, founded in 1857.
Dean Foods, the nation's largest milk producer, filed for bankruptcy protection in November. Both dairies are based in Dallas.

Poster refers to a thing today, "soy boys". From the Urban Dictionary --
Soy Boy --"Slang used to describe males who completely and utterly lack all necessary masculine qualities. This pathetic state is usually achieved by an over-indulgence of emasculating products and/or ideologies.
The origin of the term derives from the negative effects soy consumption has been proven to have on the male physique and libido."
Note: Wikipedia doesn't acknowledge soy boy adding credence to its actuality.

I gave up most dairy for health reasons.. however, I also have given up soy based products too. Or as much soy free as I can be!!
Estrogen dominance in middle age keeps weight on and especially around middle...
I enjoy almond milk.. use real butter (yes dairy)..
Everyone needs to control their own diet and be intentional on what is ingested.. it isn’t a strict diet plan, but eat what makes you feel the best!
Know what you are eating, Skip process food as much as possible!! #livehealthy

I don't have any choice but to use almond milk and dairy substitutes. I am highly lactose intolerant (my dr. called it a "non-allergy allergy). I don't drink a lot of milk because I am not in the habit of doing so, but it is nice to have alternatives. And chocolate almond milk is delish, especially warmed up for a quick hot cocoa.

I am not a milk drinker. I use it on cereal, but to drink a glass of milk....ewwwww. They say that man is the only animal that was never weaned. I will not drink milk substitutes, either.

Borden should have learned from the tobacco industry, who bought up vaping companies as a hedge against the anti-smoking zealots driving users away from the leafy kind. Borden should have gotten the hint and started buying into the trend.

FTA:
Borden Dairy Co. — whose smiling mascot Elsie the cow first appeared on milk cartons in the 1930s — says it will continue operations during its financial restructuring.
This isi protection. It keeps a company able to continue operations, keeps them from having to fire all their employees. It is not the liquidation bankruptcy that most think of when they hear the word “bankruptcy”.

We drink 2% milk, produced in California, which tastes delicious. I use it in cooking. Find it to work as well as full fat milk. Both of us use it on cereal as well.

I;m with #8, although I often use skim milk, but 1% or 2% is fine, too. Not a huge milk drinker, wasn't even as a kid, but always have it on cereal, 7 days a week.....unless Mrs. DVC is making a "big breakfast" of pancakes or waffles, a rare thing, fortunately for my waistline.
I have heard of lactose intolerance, and I sympathize with actual sufferers, but all those odd substitutes out there are probably not being drunk only by people with this problem. People seem to be somehow looking for oddball foods to eat, and seem to enjoy their strange and frequently unhealthy diet crazes.

I had to give up on milk entirely. It upset my stomach even at 1%. Oddly I did better on full milk, but that's more calories. I don't think I'm dairy intolerant. I eat other dairy products without much problem. One person told me it might be the modern day pasteurization process. I don't know.
I use almond milk. Soy milk also upset my stomach.

My kids never tolerated milk well, from toddler days on, so I didn’t push it. They all drink almond milk now. If I hadn’t seen how fussy milk made them when little, I wouldn’t have believed it. Their dad and I love milk, interestingly.

Here is an interesting bit of info from an online source.
"Lactose intolerance is most prevalent among people of East Asian ancestry, affecting more than 90% of adults in some communities, according to the NIH.
The condition is also common in people who are of Jewish, Arab, West African, Greek and Italian descent. On the other hand, people with ancestors from Northern Europe, who consume mostly unfermented milk, have only a 5% rate of lactose intolerance.
So, Dead Ted is damaging our dairy businesses, too, with his hideous "no more immigrants from Northern Europe" law. Filling the country with folks from these other areas gets us more lactose intolerant folks.
95% of what used to be normal Americans are fine with milk.

Hard to believe milk producers are having a hard time staying in business. Watch. Some time in the future, medical researchers will find some bad side effects caused by all these made man milk products.

Out of curiosity, are these milk substitutes getting subsidized? If yes, then stop the subsidies. Maybe dairy does need to become more competitive. Or, we need to rethink how to do this business.

Any not a big milk drinker. But have a carton of soy milk in the frig. Cow milk goes bad after a couple of days. Soy milk lasts forever. Never understood why bread has mold after a few days and hast to be tossed where cracker, cookies, and fruitcake last forever.

I spent some growing up years on my dad's dairy farm. I've never liked the taste of milk, however, and I do not drink it. I do cook with it, however, real cow's milk and not the wimpy kind so thin you can read a newspaper through it. Whole milk in this house and we've never experimented with almond or soy substitutes. I hope Borden fully recovers. I prefer Lucerne, though.

I hope this doesn't keep happening. I love milk and have it with 90% of my meals. Not to mention ice cream and other dairy products. I have been drinking it since childhood, around 70 years, and my health if pretty good.

I've grown extremely fond of " Horizon Organic's Omega-3 Ultra-pasteurized Whole Milk. I had avoided milk or quite a few years, due to the bad publicity re cholesterol. But the main reason was that I bought a half-gallon of whole milk, it would invariably spoil before I got around to drinking it. Horizon's Organic has a use-by date of 4-5 weeks. Kind of expensive but worth EVERY penny!

Interesting news.
I see these weird almond and soy things in the grocery stores, but can't imagine why someone would even try these weird man-made concoctions.
There are many reports that soy has similar chemical structures to female hormones and will cause problems for males similar to taking female hormones. Any connection to the 'trans' folks? Maybe this is what is wrong with some young men these days, drinking soy fake milk making them literally into girly men.
