Of the most feared terrorist leaders the United States has hunted and killed this century—from Osama bin Laden to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi—no death ever had the significance of the one America just dealt. The killing of Iran’s Quds Force commander, Qassem Soleimani, in a U.S. strike yesterday in Baghdad wasn’t just the targeted assassination of a state military leader. It marked a dangerous new chapter in a roiling region Soleimani has helped shape for more than a decade, and moved the U.S. and Iran’s cycle of proxy violence and sabotage closer to outright war.
President Donald Trump did not immediately claim victory

They keep calling this an assasination, but was it any more an assasination than the deaths of American service men killed by IED's ?
Is a killing of a General in a war really an assasination?
To me this is more like a death of any other soldier that is killed fighting a war.
This man is responsible for the death's of many men, women and children, some of the his own Iranians, protesting in their own country.
Even if we consider it different from a war death it was more like the execution of a rabid animal than an assasination.

It wasn't an "assassination." More like a ticket punch, or a run through the checkout counter.

The cowardly response from Trump haters:
Yes Soleimani was a bad guy who has murdered hundreds of American soldiers. He was planning on murdering lots more of our soldiers, but taking out this terrorist (AKA "respected military leader") might result in other Iranians murdering more important Americans...like diplomats or maybe some Democrat politician. Plus Trump didn't ask Nancy's permission.
Note: military lives mean less than nothing to Democrats because most of them don't vote for Democrats.

Wasn't the strike we suffered on September 11, 2001 the "most consequential?"
Or has the Atlantic stuffed that down the Old Memory Hole?

I don't care what anyone calls it, and I doubt most reasonable people do. Only the democrats, who try to turn everything into a negative, are deranged enough to care. I'm just glad that an evil monster is dead, and will not be responsible for any more American (or allied) deaths! Democrats can go pound sand as they cower in fear, as the Iran bullies make threats!

Finally a POTUS with Balls. When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor the American military fired back as best they could. We didn't attack Iran. They attacked us. PT says regime change is not a goal. I hope it is. Find the son or grand son of the Shah of Iran and put him back on the Peacock Throne. Please, please send Iran a bill for the drone.

How Dare He without asking Nan's permission! With this brazen act Trump made it unsafe for wonderful and wise politicians like John Kerry to travel to Iran to give advice and support to the terrorist regime there. Now they might think Obama has no power and deserves no kickbacks. Now someone important like a Democrat traitor conspiring with the enemy might be killed instead of a few hundred expendable soldiers, embassy personnel and ambassadors.

The dems worry about a "regional war" but there is one already ongoing on a slow boil. Iran has intruded into numerous places and attacked American allies and Americans when they could reach them. The Iranians may indeed escalate but there is a major cost to that. They can no longer be stealthy. Declaring an open war against the US will lead to their destruction. They might hurt us a little and there is a risk that bigger things than we expect could be unleashed. But maybe we need to know about those things NOW instead of letting them fester and become more dangerous. When they expose themselves by attacking, they will expose themselves to massive retaliation and certain obliteration. Some in the US may question the need for such actions but by the time they do, it will be too late. Iran will be wiped out militarily. There is no "win" for Iran along this path.

I believe this is how you win wars. They ID the guy by the ring on his hand. It was still on his hand when the found it but his hand wasn't. Since Pelosi raging about the killing of this guy may be President Trump should call on her and jon cary, H. Clinton, Shumer, and and one else that wants to go to Iran on a super special peace mission to correct this situation ... and then leak the details of the mission.

The Atlantic would rather have a muslim trained President sneak over a BILLION dollars of taxpayer cash to obvious, known terrorists, in the middle of the night.

Old wars. Send thousands of American troops to deal with Muslim cannon fodder. New (Trump) wars. Take out the head table and see if they still want to "step outside". And the cheering in the background is not coming from Democrats.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just some poor deplorable in flyover country. Soleimani was a known terrorist and an Iranian citizen. He has killed hundreds of Americans and other innocents over the years through his terrorist activities and attacks. He was in Iraq (interesting because the embassy in Baghdad was under siege). The U.S. had credible intelligence that he was planning another strike against American interests. We did not bomb Iran. We did not bomb Iraq. We used a very selective targeting device (just like a 50 Cal sniper rifle) only bigger. There is no outrage when we use a sniper rifle to take out a terrorist. The difference being that this one goes boom. Mission accomplished. If President Carter had had a set and done a similar thing years ago we probably would not be having these problems with Iran today. Retired Military for Trump. MAGA-KAG

As they use to say on the A Team "I love it when a plan comes together"
Liberals and Dems think we should just be a scapegoat all the time and fund all every other country around the world. They are always for everybody but US.
Thank you PT for MAGA.
