Marine Corps Authorizes Concealed Carry

The Marine Corps announced Tuesday that it was authorizing Marines and civilians in Marine Corps law enforcement roles to carry personal firearms while on base. Lieutenant General George Smith, Deputy Commandant, Plans, Policies, and Operations, announced in a press release that the Marines were changing their policy following December shootings at Naval Air Station Pensacola and at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in Hawaii, which left five dead. “These tragic events prompted Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC) to accelerate existing efforts to develop concealed carry policies,” the memo reads.

Couldn't Trump just fix this with Executive Order? Allowing armed Military on Military Bases seems like a no-Brainer. I'm betting we would never hear of another shooting on a Base if the shooter knew he would be taken out by another armed person! I agree that they should not need to be concealed, that's like saying a policeman should not carry an exposed weapon. Who in Washington is the "decider" on these rules?

You can't carry concealed in a Marine khaki uniform without having a big bulging pocket as they are tailored to fit snugly. Possibly a .380 in fatigues or a dress uniform jacket. But, as stated above, it's a start. A full sized 911 type 9mm or 45 cal worn on the belt makes more sense unless engaged in exercise.

I'm former Air Force, not Marine, but the uniforms are basically the same in the manner they are worn. As a practical matter, carrying concealed would be nearly impossible except in an ankle holster. And even that wouldn't work when wearing the battle dress uniform (fatigues) because of the constriction near the ankle that facilitates blousing the pants leg,

There needs to be some balance here. If they are changing policy to allow firearms on a military base, they should ban something. How about Arabs?

It’s odd how the political left cheers America’s shortcomings and mourns its victories. The United States killed the top terrorist on the planet Thursday, and Democrats were…upset. Perhaps “upset” is too vague, they were a combination of angry and scared. They were angry that President Trump ordered an air strike on Qassem Soleimani, a man responsible for the deaths of more than 600 American soldiers and thousands more wounded. They tried to pretend they were glad he was dead, that he deserved to die, but their quick condemnation of the action that took him out exposed what they were really thinking.

Democrats began this election cycle with what was supposed to be a presidential primary field of unprecedented diversity. But it’s now clear that the nominee will be white. No one will miss Julian Castro, the latest candidate to drop out. But his exit from the race, like that of Kamala Harris, is already occasioning a new round of baseless assertions that the deck is stacked against nonwhite candidates in the presidential primaries. In November, Castro was already complaining that Iowa and New Hampshire are just too white to play their first-in-the-nation role in choosing the nominee. He even released an ad in Iowa

Supporters of Joe Biden are unlikely to be persuaded by most of the common criticisms. They know he can be rambling and unintelligible. They know his record is unimpressive and that he doesn’t really have “policy proposals”. None of this matters, though, because to them he has the most important quality of all: he can beat Donald Trump. Nothing you can say about the former vice-president’s record, platform or mental state matters next to the argument that he is the best hope Democrats have of getting Trump out of office.

Trump’s red line against the Iranian regime harming Americans was very real, and Qasem Soleimani is dead. The U.S. killed the Iranian terror-master at the Baghdad airport where he reportedly had just arrived from Syria. The head of the Revolutionary Guard’s elite Quds Force, Soleimani was the instrument of Iranian imperialism around the region, building up proxy forces, overseeing operations, and executing a geopolitical vision. He existed at the very center of the Iranian regime and was uniquely skilled at his role, honed over decades of ruthlessness and cunning. He was also a cold-blooded killer of Americans, responsible for the deaths of hundreds of our servicemen during the Iraq war.

The calendar turns and a decade begins, but there is nothing new under the sun in Washington. Even the killing of an Iranian mass murderer is cause for more partisan strife. In a sane country, which America used to be, there would be shared sober satisfaction over the elimination of Gen. Qassem Soleimani. Yet Democrats apparently outsourced their reactions to robots, whose script called for conceding that the departed was a very bad man, but prohibited approval of President Trump’s decision to take him out.

Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani was killed Thursday night in a strike by an MQ-9 Reaper drone. The operation to kill Soleimani is believed to have been overseen by the CIA. U.S. Air Force pilots fly Reapers from Creech Air Force base in Nevada and some are seconded to the CIA in Langley, Virginia. According to the U.S. Air Force, the Reaper is an "armed, multi-mission, medium-altitude, long-endurance remotely piloted aircraft that is employed primarily against dynamic execution targets and secondarily as an intelligence collection asset." About 20 years ago, academic researchers began describing poor urban neighborhoods without supermarkets as “food deserts.” The term captured the attention of elected officials, activists, and the media. They mapped these nutritional wastelands, blamed them on the rise of suburban shopping centers and the decline of mass transit, linked them to chronic health problems suffered by the poor, and encouraged government subsidies to lure food stores to these communities. Despite these efforts, which led to hundreds of new stores opening around the country, community health outcomes haven’t changed significantly, and activists think that they know why. The culprits, they say, are the dollar-discount stores in poor neighborhoods that—

For decades, land-use regulation across the U.S. has emphasized single-family houses on large lots. This approach has priced many people out of the quintessential American dream: home ownership. It also has promoted suburban sprawl — a pattern of low-density, car-dependent development that has dominated growth at the edges of urban areas since the end of World War II. Now, however, Americans may be starting to question the desirability of a private house. In the past year, the Minneapolis City Council and the state of Oregon have voted to allow duplexes and other types of multi-unit housing in neighborhoods where currently only single-family homes currently are allowed.
