Homelessness in Seattle has reached a crisis point. Despite more than $1 billion in public and private spending across King County, more people live on the streets than ever before (a problem that will likely get worse, following the Supreme Court’s refusal to address the legality of public camping). But rather than focus on the causes of homelessness—addiction, mental illness, and social breakdown—progressives in local government have waged war against abstract forces of oppression. Last week, the leaders of the homelessness response in Seattle and King County hosted their annual conference under the theme of “Decolonizing Our Collective Work.”

Comments:

Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and LA all vie to qualify to represent the west coast in this year's Urban Degradation Bowl. This article shows Seattle has a pretty good shot at getting through the playoffs and into the finals against whichever urban hellhole the east coast puts up. Warning: I do NOT encourage anyone to click on the embedded video which presents a performance by transgender stripper Beyoncé Black St. James but it does give support to Seattle's claim of west coast supremacy.

Stop throwing money at homelessness and allow police to enforce vagrancy laws. If your jails fill up, give Sheriff Joe a call on how to set up a tent prison. Let the homeless get a bottle of water, an apple or orange, and a bologna for breakfast, lunch and dinner until they dry out, and bring back the chain gang.

#8, if you are merely incompetent, occasionally you would get a right answer. They are destructive, have a special touch, the ability to ALWAYS, 100% of the time do the exactly wrong thing, the exact thing which will massively exacerbate whatever problem they are "solving". No, clearly not incompetence. Mere incompetence would have far better outcomes.

Congress and the media obsess endlessly over whether President Donald Trump should be impeached. Both ignore $23 trillion of bigger problems. That's how deep in debt the federal government is now, and because they keep spending much more than they could ever hope to collect in taxes, that number will only go up. It's increasing by $1 trillion a year. "Shut up, Stossel," you say. "You've been crying wolf about America's debt for years, but we're doing great!"

Well, this is interesting. Attorney General Bill Barr is pushing back on IG Horowitz’s coming findings on the Trump-Russia investigation. Recent reports have said that Horowitz will find no political bias in the investigation despite ample evidence numerous high level officials had it out for Trump. As with the IG’s findings on the Hillary investigation, Horowitz’s standard is apparently an admission under oath and sealed in blood, as he found dozens of pieces of evidence of bias there but still concluded there was nothing conclusive.

"We’ve got a fresh Diet Coke,” the cameraman announced, peering through the lens at President Trump, who was locked in conversation inside the Oval Office. “Beverages were just served.” The White House press corps erupted in groans. It was getting towards an hour since we’d been marched out to the edge of the South Lawn to wait for the president. The cameraman, zooming in on the window, informed us that the other guy was Attorney General William Barr. Outside, the crisp fall dusk was punctured by the metallic roar of a helicopter engine. The soft drinks were a grave portent: they signaled the meeting would stretch on, which it did,

There’s a lot of talk about Chick-fil-A. Most of it is generated by the #fakenews establishment that wants nothing more than to demonize an organization that, historically, has publicly professed its Christian faith that is inseparable from its business practices. “[We are] based on biblical principles, asking God and pleading with God to give us wisdom on decisions we make about people and the programs and partnerships we have. Hatred makes you crazy. There is perhaps no surer example of this principle than Never Trump stalwart Bill Kristol. Early Monday morning, he tweeted that another four years of Donald Trump would be more dangerous for free markets than four years of Elizabeth Warren as president. Not that Warren is anywhere near his first pick... "I very much prefer Biden or Buttigieg or Bloomberg or Klobuchar to Warren. But the idea that one term of Warren would pose anything like the threat of a second term for Trump to the basic norms and institutions of our liberal democracy, including to free markets, is laughable," Kristol insisted.

Last Saturday, the NFL’s most controversial quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, participated in a workout to try to spark interest in his employment. So far, no NFL team has reached out to him about a potential job. Kaepernick has been unemployed for three years. He led the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2012 and did quite well as quarterback in 2013, but then his career started to wane. In 2016 he started kneeling during the national anthem as a protest of police brutality. His move angered fans but delighted political pundits who loved his anti-America message. When it comes to politics, these guys are dropping the ball! More than a quarter of men in the US would rather their favorite football team win the Super Bowl than their preferred candidate win the presidency, a new poll shows. In a phone survey of 712 adults, 28 percent of guys admitted to caring more about the big game than the next leader of the free world, according to a press release from Seton Hall Sports Polls. Women, by contrast, tackled the question with more of a world view — with only 11 percent saying they’d rather their team score a championship.

President Donald Trump is simply not given the credit by a mostly antagonistic media for the things he has achieved, from helping to build an incredible economy to actually taking concrete and substantive steps to further American interests on other domestic and foreign policy. But in a case of very interesting timing, he just got some important praise from a very unexpected source, Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) the vice-chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee. Warner was being interviewed on PBS’ “Firing Line” with Margaret Hoover on Friday when he gave Trump credit for allowing the U.S. to “punch back”

Forget whether the math works. (It doesn’t.) Expecting billionaires to pay for all the nice things is bad for democracy. One of the more exhausting rituals of presidential campaign season is the effort to make every new proposal “add up.” Sure, it’s better that politicians try to come up with a plan to pay for their wish lists. The problem is that the explanations are often a disguise that make the impossible seem possible, even practical. Fake budgets are the tribute that pandering pays to pragmatism. You could confiscate the wealth of every billionaire and centimillionaire in the country and it wouldn’t come close to paying

Clerics in the medieval Church did not have the luxury of literate pew-sitters. They, rather creatively, used the architecture, sculpture, and paintings in cathedrals to convey the biblical narrative to the unlettered faithful. Gothic architecture so arrests the modern eye not only for its structural and formalistic brilliance but also because the ornature itself narrates the story of salvation. The climate clerics have erected their own Biblia pauperum for the unwashed masses in San Francisco. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) launched the debate over the impeachment of President Donald Trump on Wednesday by comparing the Democrats’ struggle to remove him from office to the Battle of the Bulge against Nazi Germany in World War II. Described as “Hitler’s Last Gamble,” the battle began in December 1944, when the Nazis sent 200,000 troops into a surprise attack against American forces. Though the Americans prevailed, 100,000 were killed or wounded over two months of fighting. Pelosi drew an analogy between the impeachment debate and that battle, the largest ever fought by the U.S. Army:

You could say the same of the movie itself. We can debate the importance of final chapters, whether they really have, or should have, the power to elevate or invalidate everything that came before them—and though the ninth episode in this generation-spanning story has been advertised with the promise that “The Saga Will End,” that’s a promise that has been made and broken before.
