To me, California has always been an amazing place with a wondrous geography far more diverse than the other two largest states. This helps explain why historically it has been such a beacon for so many Americans, including myself, seeking a golden future in the Golden State. [Snip] As one result, for a variety of revealing reasons, several hundred-thousand Californians are fleeing the state annually, including me. A personal

Unfortunate that along with author comes individuals with their big, usually highly socialist, ideas with an anger if the natives here do not want to "comply". Long ago we got real tired of eastern ideas. They don't fit here. For the reason we got on a boat over two hundred years ago, some got on a wagon and headed west to escape basically the same thing for which we left Britain. The gold played out half a century or so ago, and with it the excuse to stay. Kindly adapt to western beliefs or hit the trail for the Mississippi and keep going. An example of one big muckraker would be Pelosi. Dug in tighter than a tick, she's from New Jersey, continually wetting her finger and thrusting it in the air to gauge today's lecture for the masses. NJ has great people, some of which I served in the military.

I fear that all the Californians moving to other states will bring their leftist politics with them. One only has to look at Colorado to see the damage they can do to a formerly conservative state - a gay governor with a "first man," spouse and total democrat control of all major political offices. The only thing saving Colorado so far is TABOR which is under constant assault by the Dems.

Lived there 30 years with a paid up house and 1980 property taxes on a low evaluation. It was hard to leave 20 years ago but glad we did. We visit yearly in the summer.

He will love Tennessee. We lived there after living in Illinois and Michigan. Talk about wonderful! Low taxes and a great climate. Unfortunately, Hubby wanted to retire here in Florida (for golf). Also a great State, but Hot, very, very Hot!

If his neighbor is moving to Seattle, then the neighbor is part of what killed California. How is Seattle going to be better than California? I'm a native Californian not living there any more. The geography is still there, but California is gone forever. Thanks, libterds and illegals! It will really be fun when they change the name to Aztlan and the entire state becomes a suburb of Tijuana.

TN will welcome Mr Malcolm. Unfortunately, many of the people moving to TN and Nashville in particular are bringing their politics with them. Nashville has an awful budget deficit thanks to their former mayor who was a transplant from Boston and thought that they should borrow millions to build bike paths and stadiums the notes of which are now coming due and straining the city budget. He also ignored a water system that is ancient and in need of multi-millions in repair. The state under law was about to take over the Nashville budget when the new Mayor made cuts in leftist programs that were slated to go be funded and raised water bills to avoid the state take over. Neighboring Williamson County is solidly Conservative, voted 80% for Trump has a 2.1% unemployment rate and is the 12th richest county in the US. Hopefully the leftists will not bring their destructive politics there.

As evident from the article - many of the people leaving California were not born here, like locusts, once they strip the field it's on to the next one...

And how many are carrying the California infection elsewhere to vote for and demand the same dysfunctional leftist policies that destroyed California?
I was born in California, moved long ago, and most of my relatives there have died. A few cousins that I don't have current addresses for still, presumably live there.
I have a friend and his wife, still living in San Diego and I visit them when I am in the state. I love to get out into the mountains and hike, used to go shooting in the desert, but probably would be arrested now. I am always happy to be leaving California.

Born and raised in California and had the good sense to get out when I was 27 yrs old. Just turned 73. Still own a lot in a rural area, but other than that don't care if California falls into the Pacific Ocean. My son calls it Commiefornia. I think he is right on. The liberals have ruined what once was a beautiful state. So glad I don't live there anymore. Last time I visited a niece in the bay area, we went to SF and walked the waterfront to Pier 39. A homeless person walked by and I almost puked! This was about 4 years ago. I've heard it is even worse now. So sad.

By now, leaving California is a really tired story. Enough. I did it four years ago.

Please, PLEASE dont vote or get involved in politics for at least ten years. We have very few cops, very few government services, very low taxes and very little crime. We like it that way. Californians come here to backwoods Appalachia and are welcomed, and they seem to think that means their foreign ideas are welcome too. They are not. Put away the spandex and sunglasses, park the convertible and RV, get rid of that ghastly grey pony tail and assimilate. You moved here. We didnt move there.

#1, I'm pretty sure Pelosi is originally from Baltimore, Maryland, where her father was once mayor.

Born and raised in Mexiforniaco. Used to be awesome but now out sucks. The Golden State is not the rust belt of the West coast. San Joaquin Valley used to be the worlds cornucopia to the world for fresh fruits ness and veggies now it’s mile after mile of dead orchards and dried up weed fields. I’m sick of it and I’m 69 y.o. Wanting to move but it’s expensive and I’m probably stuck here at this point. Democrats have turned a beautiful place into a hole.

Under the rule, not leadership, of the Democrats in Sacramento the once beautiful state has turned garnered 3rd world status. Look at San Francisco as an example. The morons there keep sending Nancy Pelosi back to DC as their representative, and the city is a mess. Homeless people have taken over and defecate and urinate on public sidewalks. SF is a "sanctuary city" that harbors illegals, like the piece of Mexican trash that shot and killed Kate Steinle in 2015. By the way a jury in SF acquitted that piece of trash.
