Jeff Van Drew is a democrat congressman from New Jersey CD-02. According to multiple media reports he is likely to switch to the republican party next week due to the fraudulent impeachment effort. Van Drew was one of two democrats who did not support the vote for the impeachment inquiry. According to Politico Democrat leadership are in a panic and urgently trying to get ahold of Van Drew. The optics of a democrat changing parties at the same time they are trying to sell the validity of an impeachment narrative are terrible.

Sorry, the CYA ain't flying. Vote NO on impeachment. Resign immediately. Enter the Republican primary for 2020. Anything else is just trying to keep your job by any means possible.

This will fly... this is amazing, great optics for our side - we don't see any republicans switching to democrats... more dems are going to vote against impeachment than we are being told... and... I'm still going to hold it till I can't anymore; we may not have a vote at all... if this keeps cratering!!!! Keep calling and Christians, keep praying...

I'd like to point out that his district is South Jersey. I'm surprised there was a D there in the first place!

For the "switch party" crowd this guy ran as a Democrat and was elected BY Democrats. Their votes count as much as mine. If he wants to be a Republican suddenly he should RESIGN and explain to those who voted for him WHY. Then run as a Republican and maybe next time bring a few MORE former Democrats with him.

Someone elsewhere said he should vote against impeachment as a Democrat, then switch. I agree. But either way, it's one less vote for impeachment.

An honest man. He voted against it once, should wait until after the vote on impeachment to vote against it again, THEN join the Repubs.
I can't agree with the naysayers. This is a good guy.

This man came up through Democratic ranks to the Congress. He has a Democrat mindset and behaviors. We’re supposed to believe he’s experienced a 360 and now sees the world with a conservative Republican mindset.
Yeah, and I have a pig that can fly. As a previous poster said, that’s where the best RINOs come from.

He should vote no to impeachment as a Democrat and then resign and run for his seat again as a Republican.

Minority Leader McCarthy said last night that the number of endangered Democrats is not 31 but close to 55. The lower number comes from districts carried by PDT in 2016. The real number is the districts Trump WILL carry in 2020. This is not looking good for Nancy and Chuck!

I agree with #6. While I'm glad to have one less vote for impeachment, he doesn't have to switch parties to vote against. I have never been comfortable with politicians who run under one party then switch while in office. It's a basic issue of integrity. I didn't like it when Arlen Specter did it to us, and I don't like it now.
Having said all that, I agree with the other posters about the optics and portents of this. It looks terrible for the Democrats and suggests that this man thinks they will lose the house and wants to caucus with the new majority party.
Let's hope so.

This is a victory for our side and looks really bad on Pelosi. No need for him to resign, etc. House members seats are up every 2 years, so this guy IS running as a Republican. His constituents will have the opportunity to vote for him based on this decision.

Totally agree with posters saying he should resign and run as a Republican. But the optics for this for the Democrats is hilarious. He’s not just voting no to impeachment, he’s leaving the Party. Could the liberals possibly look any dumber?

Sounds to me as if he is getting a lot of very intense negative feedback from his constituents back home. I don’t care how he does it as long as he votes no. Several years back a Republican switched to demonrat (sorry, can’t dredge his name up at the moment) and the left had a nationwide party and rubbed our noses in it. I’m going to thoroughly enjoy the payback.

His district voted for him as a Democrat expecting Dem policy. I agree he's an opportunist and we should be wary because he could have voted NO as a Dem and run as a Republican next year.
Did he arrive at Pubbie gate inside a wooden horse? We don't need any more RINOs.

He won as a moderate Democrat against a Republican who was accused of racism (fairly or not). I wonder how many here used to be or to vote Democrat. I say, welcome, Jeff!

This impeachment vote will come down to the same idea as the vote to secede from the Union back in December of 1860! Reason flies out the window. And the pig-headed and over prideful Demo-rats back then were just as crazy for breaking the Union over an issue that could have been adjudicated and no doubt ultimately compromised on by the Federal government buying all their slaves and/or giving tax credits and freeing them that way. Instead, they stopped talking and chose war. A very bloody and expensive war that cost the South the cream of it's culture crop and killed off an entire generation. The pride of the South lay dead on hundreds of battlefields. Sad.
Today the monomaniacal Dems in Congress and their lunatic supporters are willing to drive off a cliff in order to sully Trump. They are that angry and hate us that much.

Agree with both thoughts on this issue but a couple things do come to mind here. First, while I get the proper thing would be to resign and run pub the optics on this thing are just too rare and precious right now especially during such a vote. Also he met with PDT and I don't see him advising the good congressman to resign first and then run. I'll doff my bonnet to The Donald on this one. And one last thing I can't wait to see him pop up shaking hands with Brandon Straka…

He needs to resign and allow a real Republican to replace him. Just because he's claiming to be a Republican now doesn't mean he'll actually act like one.

I don't think much of a politician who changes his party. Seems all too convenient to me. Suggests he is unprincipled and opportunistic. How 'bout staying in your party and voting against impeachment? Anyone remember Arlen Specter?

This may be an indicator of how the vote will go on the Democrat side of the aisle. There are about 22 Democrats up for reelection and this may also be an indicator of how the votes will go.

This is great news. Thank you Mr. Van Drew. We need a majority in the House to stop our enemy within from impeaching our Donald Trump again during his second term. Welcome Van Drew, have Trump endorse him for the primaries and the RNC give our new friend lots of money for re-election. Ronald Reagan, Donald Trump and NotaBene were once Democrats. Heh.

I do not trust any Democrat alive, and as such, I smell a rat. Jeff Van Drew switches to the Republican Party, then poof, out of the clear blue he votes for impeachment against President Trump, and Nancy Pelosi and her corrupt media howl from every rooftop about the bipartisan vote on the impeachment imbroglio….!

Before we all start high-fiving each other this, we may want to find out if this is a true conversion, an infiltration, or just a desperate attempt to get reelected.
