Even Hermit Crabs Have Wealth Inequality

Original Article

Hermit crabs face a uniquely competitive real estate market. They need bigger and bigger shells throughout their lives, but can’t grow these homes themselves. So they rely on castoff snail shells, and are constantly on the lookout for better properties entering the market. A study that will be published next month in the journal Physica A found that the distribution of these shells in one hermit crab population was surprisingly similar to the distribution of wealth in human societies. That may make hermit crabs one of the first animals known to experience wealth inequality. (Snip)“Vacancy chains are just another way of transferring property,” he said.

Comments:

The New York Times go down the road of using a "fake news" assumption to explain our society. Obviously, their writers have failed previously to pen the "Great American Story" and have to make do as stringers for this yellow journalism rag. This could be their solution to our homeless situation.

First, we have penquin sexual predators and now we have wealth inequality among hermit crabs. What next, plants that adamantly refuse to play well together?

President Trump slammed Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer — needling him as “Cryin’ Chuck” — over criticism of his new trade deal with China. “Chuck Schumer sat for years during the Obama Administration and watched as China ripped off the United States,” Trump tweeted Saturday. “Now, without even seeing it, he snipes at our GREAT new deal with China. Too bad Cryin’ Chuck!” The partial trade agreement, announced Friday, canceled a new set of tariffs set to take effect this weekend, and scaled back tariffs that remain in place. In exchange, China agreed to buy more US farm products and remove some of its retaliatory tariffs on American goods.

The Mossad was behind successful efforts by Denmark to nab a cell of 20 terrorists planning a wide wave of attacks, Channel 12 reported Saturday night. According to the report, Danish security officials arrested the terrorists and also seized a variety of weapons. In July, Mossad Director Yossi Cohen noted that his agency has thwarted a large number of terror attacks, especially on airliners, across the world. In June, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a conference in Tel Aviv that Israel had used its cyber intelligence capabilities to thwart around 50 ISIS terrorist attacks in dozens of countries worldwide. For the first time ever, women make up the majority of U.S. medical school students this year, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges. Women just barely surpassed the number of men enrolled in medical schools, comprising 50.5% of the student population. The milestone builds upon earlier turning points for women in 2017 and 2018. In 2017, women accounted for most of first-year students in medical schools. Last year, they made up the majority of medical school applicants. “This is a welcomed milestone,” said Dr. John Prescott, the AAMC’s chief academic officer. “Women have long been the majority of U.S. college graduates

Republicans turned the second day of House Judiciary Committee impeachment hearings into a direct attack on Joe Biden's son Hunter – citing his cocaine use and ugly public divorce as they tried to amend the Democrats' articles of impeachment against Donald Trump. Just minutes after the panel voted down a GOP amendment to strike down an abuse of power article, Donald Trump loyalist Rep. Matt Gaetz introduced a three-line amendment that explicitly mentioned Hunter Biden and the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma. It would change the articles of impeachment to allege that Trump's call to Ukraine's president was seeking information on Hunter Biden, not his father Joe -

When it comes to the unlawful surveillance on Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, the most important question is, what did President Obama know and when did he know it? If we are to believe the testimony in the Justice Department inspector general’s report on FISA abuse, Obama didn’t know anything about the Crossfire Hurricane investigation. Neither did his attorney general, her deputy, or anyone in the White House. At least not that they can recall – an expression used over 200 times in the report. Yet against this we have the Sept. 2, 2016, text message from Lisa Page to her paramour Peter Strzok saying “POTUS wants to know everything we are doing.”

BROWNSVILLE, Texas -- Salvador Castillo was yearning for tranquility when he became enchanted by a one-acre homestead close -- but not too close -- to the city, a place where cows graze beneath whispering mesquite trees on the property's edge. Castillo, an Afghanistan war veteran, and his wife bought the home using military benefits and grew their family into their new neighborhood -- about half a mile from a bend in the Rio Grande. They never imagined a border wall could dissect their property someday. But the first letter, stamped with an official government seal, arrived about a year ago. Their neighbors, the Carrascos and Trevinos, got them too.
