Astronomers shocked by discoveries

Cape Canaveral, FL - NASA’s sun-skimming spacecraft, the Parker Solar Probe, is surprising scientists with its unprecedented close views of our star. Scientists released the first results from the mission Wednesday. They observed bursts of energetic particles never seen before on such a small scale as well as switchback-like reversals in the out-flowing solar magnetic field that seem to whip up the solar wind. NASA’s Nicola Fox compared this unexpected switchback phenomenon to the cracking of a whip. (Snip) Researchers said they also finally have evidence of a dust-free zone encircling the sun. Farther out, there’s so much dust from vaporizing comets and asteroids

No mention of relationship to our weather patterns...like climate change. More comprehensive pics and article from the source:

Just remember when you read scientists were surprised, baffled, shocked, not expecting, etc., that they don't know everything. Some of them don't know *anything*.

You can't see the North and South poles of the Sun from the equator of the Earth. It just does not work that way. In the same way there were surprises when the first orbits of the Moon were made. What you cannot see, you cannot study. And it stands to reason that a large ball of hot gas would have more going on than we know about. How do you study the interior of an object which has a surface temperature of 5000 degrees K? The Sun is hot enough to melt any conceivable probe. Where does the fusion take place? how does the energy work its way to the surface? What is the future history of the Sun? We just don't know. Much information has to be inferred.

The greatest thing to happen was Hubble, not Webb, but the Space Telescope, and the pictures it sends back to earth. It's still amazing us to this day. We should fund another orbiting space telescope even bigger and better for us all to appreciate and send more robots to do the jobs too dangerous for mankind to embark upon.

Islamabad, PAK - At least 13 people were killed in a fiery collision between a passenger bus and a pickup truck carrying smuggled Iranian gasoline early Friday in southwestern Pakistan, officials said. (Snip) Despite being rich in natural resources, and the site of billions of dollars’ worth of Chinese development projects, Baluchistan is one of the most troubled places in Pakistan. The security forces have used a heavy hand in fighting a long-running insurgency there, Islamist militant groups often target the Shiite minority population, and much of the Afghan Taliban leadership is still based in Quetta. Officials say that smuggling has long been a factor in Baluchistan,
Even Hermit Crabs Have Wealth Inequality 2 replies

Hermit crabs face a uniquely competitive real estate market. They need bigger and bigger shells throughout their lives, but can’t grow these homes themselves. So they rely on castoff snail shells, and are constantly on the lookout for better properties entering the market. A study that will be published next month in the journal Physica A found that the distribution of these shells in one hermit crab population was surprisingly similar to the distribution of wealth in human societies. That may make hermit crabs one of the first animals known to experience wealth inequality. (Snip)“Vacancy chains are just another way of transferring property,” he said.

Republicans turned the second day of House Judiciary Committee impeachment hearings into a direct attack on Joe Biden's son Hunter – citing his cocaine use and ugly public divorce as they tried to amend the Democrats' articles of impeachment against Donald Trump. Just minutes after the panel voted down a GOP amendment to strike down an abuse of power article, Donald Trump loyalist Rep. Matt Gaetz introduced a three-line amendment that explicitly mentioned Hunter Biden and the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma. It would change the articles of impeachment to allege that Trump's call to Ukraine's president was seeking information on Hunter Biden, not his father Joe -

A British scientist found penguins engaging in 'depraved' sexual activity including rape and 'prostitution' more than 100 years ago, a new book has revealed. George Murray Levick made the findings in 1910 but his manuscript was too shocking to publish in Edwardian Britain. On his travels, he witnessed a kind of penguin 'prostitution' in which stones would be exchanged for female penguins. (Snip) In his account, Levick described witnessing 'gang rape' and sexual abuse of chicks, according to The Sun which has seen a copy of the book. Female penguins would be 'pimped out' with stones, but would sometimes run away with them after a courtship ritual, he said.

Chile’s defense minister has confirmed that wreckage recovered from the sea off Antarctica is from a Chilean Air Force plane which disappeared on Monday. Alberto Espina also said some human remains have been found. The C-130 Hercules transport aircraft was bound for the Presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva air base in Antarctica on a routine maintenance mission with 17 crew members and 21 passengers when it lost radar contact. Hours after its disappearance, Chilean authorities announced that the plane had ‘crashed’ as, by that time, it would have ran out of fuel. An emergency search and rescue operation was launched by the Chilean Air Force, and some debris was recovered

As a former U.S. attorney general, I am reluctant to publicly criticize my successors. I respect the office and understand just how tough the job can be. But recently, Attorney General William P. BROWNSVILLE, Texas -- Salvador Castillo was yearning for tranquility when he became enchanted by a one-acre homestead close -- but not too close -- to the city, a place where cows graze beneath whispering mesquite trees on the property's edge. Castillo, an Afghanistan war veteran, and his wife bought the home using military benefits and grew their family into their new neighborhood -- about half a mile from a bend in the Rio Grande. They never imagined a border wall could dissect their property someday. But the first letter, stamped with an official government seal, arrived about a year ago. Their neighbors, the Carrascos and Trevinos, got them too.
