Background checks on gun purchases in the U.S. are climbing toward a record high this year, reflecting what the industry says is a rush by people to buy weapons in reaction to the Democratic presidential candidates' calls for tighter restrictions. On Black Friday alone, the FBI ran 202,465 checks, or an average of more than two checks per second. The record for firearms checks was set on 2017's Black Friday with 203,086. Black Friday is often the top sales day of the year for firearms, fueled by the start of hunting season as well as holiday shopping. By the end of November, more than 25.4 million background checks -

I'm listening to Old Time Radio episodes of "Gunsmoke", with William Conrad (try to imagine) playing Matt Dillon. It begins with, "Around Dodge City and the territory out West, there's just one way to handle the killer's and spoilers. And that's with the U.S. Marshall and the smell of gunsmoke." The dRATS infanticide party is pushing US to man-up at some point because it is becoming clearer their disdain for police and our Constitution, and elections.

Lotsa folks getting a new gun for Christmas, it looks like. Big middle finger to Bloomberg and the other anti-gun fascists.

Dropped into the gun store/range the other day just to pick up some .40 cal for my G22. I'm in Cali and the new rules on ammo purchases are ridiculous. The guy told me that it would be easier if I bought a new gun at the same time, so I picked up a Springfield Saint to go with my collection. Got a good deal. One more "assault rifle" is now on the street, thanks to the California legislature and governor Beto O' Newsom. The Law of Unintended Consequences, right, bedwetters?

Beto O'Rourke: Gun salesman of the year 2019. I remember about six years ago when I stopped in my local firearms store and observed a large poster of Obama. It surprised me, but upon closer inspection, it had "Gun salesman of the year" displayed under the image.

Republican Rep. Tom Graves announced his plans for retirement on Thursday. In a letter, the Georgia congressman said he wants to spend more time with his family “in their new and unique adventures” as his wife retires and their children are now adults. “Serving the country I love so much, and representing the community I hold so dear, is an honor that won’t be replicated,” he wrote. Mr. Graves was elected to Congress in 2010, after serving eight years in the Georgia House of Representatives. He serves as the Republican leader on the House Select Committee on Modernization, which was created this year to propose updates to how Congress operates.

Cape Canaveral, FL - NASA’s sun-skimming spacecraft, the Parker Solar Probe, is surprising scientists with its unprecedented close views of our star. Scientists released the first results from the mission Wednesday. They observed bursts of energetic particles never seen before on such a small scale as well as switchback-like reversals in the out-flowing solar magnetic field that seem to whip up the solar wind. NASA’s Nicola Fox compared this unexpected switchback phenomenon to the cracking of a whip. (Snip) Researchers said they also finally have evidence of a dust-free zone encircling the sun. CDC's latest abortion report

Research, reporting, and record-keeping can be a funny thing. The federal government aims to tell us what the global climate will be like a decade from now, yet it struggles to tell us what happened regarding abortion in America three years ago. We are not interested in taking a position here on the topic of climate change, but we do pay close attention to abortion statistics, and once again the news, slow in coming as it is, is uneven. The latest abortion surveillance (not our term) report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention brought welcome news that abortion rates in the United States continue to fall.

Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama have purchased a nearly 7,000-square-foot home on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts for $11.75 million, according to a report. The purchase price was recorded Wednesday with the local Registry of Deeds, the Vineyard Gazette reported. The Obamas paid about half the original asking price for the property when it first became available in 2015, the report said. The sellers were listed as Wycliffe Grousebeck, owner of the Boston Celtics basketball team, and his wife Corinne Basler Grousbeck. The United States is again the eighth-most-spammed nation in the world and the annoying calls are on the rise, according to a new report. Americans received 7% more spam calls in 2019 compared to the year before, said Truecaller, a Swedish company that tracks spam calls, but hung on to their ranking from the last annual report. The report Tuesday comes after efforts by the Federal Communications Commission to crackdown on robocalls, which are the No.1 complaint consumers make to the agency. Truecaller found robocalls in the U.S. increased by 35% in the last year, despite the four major service providers offering tools to block unwanted calls

The head of Amazon’s cloud business is getting publicly involved in the company’s fight over a $10 billion contract to supply cloud services to the Department of Defense. Amazon Web Services lost the contract to Microsoft’s Azure cloud business in October, a decision that surprised many industry experts given Amazon’s leadership in the industry. Amazon has now filed a suit with the US Court of Federal Claims contesting the decision. The company argues it was politically motivated by President Donald Trump’s dislike of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and the Washington Post, which Bezos owns.

Nationwide access to abortion is more vulnerable than it has been in decades, partly because of an aggressive campaign by Republicans and President Trump’s election and appointment of two conservative Supreme Court justices. But as The Times’s Elizabeth Dias and Lisa Lerer recently reported, many abortion rights advocates have also blamed their movement’s own missteps. Some pointed to a rift between national organizations like Planned Parenthood and independent clinics. Others said they saw peril in making support for abortion access a litmus test for Democratic candidates. These pressure points will be further pushed in the coming months of the 2020 presidential election and as courts hear a series of cases

A religious discrimination lawsuit filed last month in federal court against a local union and Boston College is being hailed by anti-union groups for upholding individual workers’ rights — and railed against by union advocates who say it’s an attempt to weaken organized labor. The plaintiff, a Muslim electrician and member of Service Employees International Union 32BJ District 615, informed the school and the union last fall that his religious beliefs conflicted with being part of the union. He requested that his dues be diverted to charity, and when no action had been taken a year later, according to the complaint, he sued. The electrician, Ardeshir Ansari, is being represented for free

One symptom of a society in crisis is the unreliability or even corruption of its own auditors. After all, when the watchmen have lost moral authority to watch, who can be believed or trusted? Or, as the Roman satirist Juvenal famously put it, “Who will guard the guardians?” It was recently reported that FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith altered an email to bolster a suspicious FBI effort to obtain a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court warrant authorizing the surveillance of Carter Page, a onetime employee of the Trump campaign. If true, Mr. Clinesmith helped the FBI successfully delude the court into granting what was likely an illegal request to spy on the Trump campaign.

A little something to cleanse the palate. She said this in an interview today with Howard Stern, which makes it slightly less weird since chatter about lesbians is like 40 percent of the content on that show. Or at least it was when I was a regular listener a million years ago. (In fairness to Stern, she’s the one who brings it up.) He went easy on her by not asking the obvious follow-up: What were you doing at Epstein’s ranch, then? She should consider this a missed opportunity, as a surprise admission of bisexuality would have helped add a little more “diversity” to an upcoming Democratic debate.

This is increasingly happening throughout women’s sports, at all levels from elementary school through professional competitions. It’s creating not equality, but inequality.

Trump said the wall had been tested by “world-class mountain climbers,” and referenced “pictures of young people climbing walls with drugs on their back--a lot of drugs.”

California Sen. Kamala Harris should never have run for president in the first place. Her ambition far exceeded her ability. She hadn’t yet established herself in the U.S. Senate. And she hadn’t exactly excelled in her previous job as California’s attorney general. There wasn’t much of a record worth bragging about on the campaign trail. After being elected to the Senate in a 2016 cakewalk, she should have spent the next three years focused exclusively on representing Californians in Congress, helping the state on such vital issues as water development, environmental protection, healthcare and homelessness. But people around her — political advisors and her sister Maya Harris
