The International Skating Union this week included an outfit made of Auschwitz uniforms worn by a Russian skater among a “best costume” list — then removed it and said it was included by mistake after a public outcry. The costume, which includes a Star of David and elements of Auschwitz guard uniforms, was worn by Anton Shulepov while he skated to the theme from Schindler’s List during a free skate routine in November. The ISU included the costume in a contest that allows fans to vote for their favorite outfits worn by skaters on Sunday. Why is the word offensive in quotes? There is no debate, this costume is disgustingly offensive.

Why is being reminded of the horrors of the Holocaust offensive? Poor taste? Perhaps. Forgetting what happen, now that is offensive.

OK. I looked at the photo of the costume and I saw someone dressed as a Jewish prisoner of a Nazi camp. There is a large yellow Star of David on the front of the shirt, and the number that would have been tattooed on the prisoner. Think of it - a free man skating while remembering those who perished at the hands of the Nazis. With a skate dance choreographed to the music of Schindler's list. I see this as a celebration of victory over evil - an 'in your face' statement to those who committed great evil. Is the skater Jewish? I don't know. But it is troubling that so many people react with unthinking emotion and can't get to a deeper symbolism. The world is going mad. Ramona (the Pest)

The music was to the Shindler's List and that movie was about the horror of Nazism and its evil perpetrated on the Jews. The costume matched the musical theme.

It is commercializing one of the most evil events in human history and is in extremely bad taste. A couple days ago Amazon had to pull Auschwitz bottle openers and other similar items. Why now? Since denying it happened hasn't worked, are they trying to desensitize us? The moslems really hate Jews and have made great strides to take over Europe. Final solution again?

It's heartning to know that the only problem some people have, is the design of a figure skating outfit.

Now I am beginning to wonder if the movie - Schindler's list - should have ever been made. It certainly commercialized the Holocaust. I think we need to know something about the skater's intentions. Did he pick the music and then try to come up with something theme-related? Or is he trying to make some kind of statement? If there is any reason to believe that he has a casual attitude towards the Holocaust, or if he has anti-Jewish beliefs, I would agree that the skate costume was perhaps uncalled for. But I thought it was actually quite a respectable reminder of the ultimate triumph over Hitler, Inc. BTW, I could not bear to go see this movie when it was in the theater. All my friends were going but I read enough about it to know it would be distressing at best. Eventually I rented the video and watched it at home. I don't take these things lightly and I would have reacted very negatively to that costume if it seemed to be even implicitly inappropriate. Ramona (the Pest)

What is going on ? Earlier this week Amazon was selling "Christmas" ornaments depicting the buildings in concentration camps. There is nothing "entertaining" about the Holocaust.

The charging documents say Brown, whose nickname is “Abdul Ja’Me,” is the leader of the AHK street gang that is based in suburban Bellwood. The discovery of more than 2,200 medically preserved fetal remains at the Illinois house of a late doctor who had performed abortions in Indiana has left authorities in the two states trying to figure out how and why he came to amass such a collection, when he started storing fetuses at his home, and what if any laws were broken.(Snip) As far as storing fetal remains, the law is murky. For starters, Klopfer was performing abortions before a 2016 Indiana law requiring that aborted fetal remains be cremated or buried.
