Many will debate the substance of the public impeachment testimony against President Trump. To me, each of the Democrats’ witnesses of the past two weeks appeared to be well-intentioned and hard-working, and seemed genuinely to believe they know what’s best.
But a picture also emerged of U.S. diplomats who appear to believe they, rather than the U.S. president, have the ultimate authority to determine our foreign policy. And if the president doesn’t go along? He clearly must be wrong — in their view. Or, even worse, he’s a traitor. He’s to be obstructed. Taken down.
In an odd turnabout, they actually make the case

Best article I've read on this entire mess in a long time. Drain the swamp, indeed.

You know, I read in 2017 that the U. S. had diplomats in Europe and Africa that still had Obama’s photo on their office walls with President of the United States underneath as the title. I thought it childish and unprofessional then.
Now we all realize they should have been canned.

FMA: "To me, each of the Democrats’ witnesses of the past two weeks appeared to be well-intentioned and hard-working, and seemed genuinely to believe they know what’s best. The First Group have the option to either agree to implement policies they may disagree with as formulated by the elected members of the people. or if they disagree strongly enough, the honorable thing for them to do is RESIGN their office. There is no legitimate or legal right to stay to resist, oppose or outright refuse to implement from inside.
The second group refers to that group of "permanent/career public service bureaucrats" who believe that their very permanency gives them the resposnbiliyt and therefore overall control over "the stability of the state/nation as they see it" and consequently the right to thwart even changes in Will of the People as expressed by through elected representatives including the Head of the Executive if it is perceived as threatening to their own vision of national stability. That is the DEFINITION of the DEEP STATE

Excellent article that indicates these diplomats are nothing more than partisan hacks. Their loyalty is not to their country, it is to their party. More than anything we have learned since President Trump was elected is that our government is filled with extreme partisans who believe they should be the ones setting the agenda. It is like the election never happened and they are doing their business as usual while undermining their Chief Executive Officer because they do not like or agree with him.
When the democrats declared they were the Resistance, apparently they meant everyone from the people on Main Street to every democrat working in the government regardless of their position. The democrats lawless agenda has permeated every agency. It is why Antifa runs wild. It is why corruption is rampant in their party. It is why they boldly lie. It is why bureaucrats defy their President. It is why democrats have been pursuing impeachment since the inauguration. Democrat believe that the law does not apply to them. They are more than willing to have law enforcement come down on any Republican in the most harsh and unreasonable manner however. The democrats we face today are arrogant, lawless and feel unrestrained in any way. This is the mentality of tyrants. Give them power again and they will become oppressive overlords. The defiance by the American people who elected Donald J. Trump will be punished. If we have learned anything these past three years is that the democrat party has abandoned reason and common sense. They are chillingly angry and bent on vengeance. The Deep State has been their vehicle for whatever it is they wish to do. Exposing their corruption has set them off into the madness we are witnessing today.

O politicized everything he could get his hands on. Thank god we have some reporters that actually are finding truth and reporting it.

The state department members kept referring to official U.S. foreign policy but never defined who who made it official.

I would not call mostly Democrat witnesses that have joined to impeach a president, based on their hurt feelings, or presumptions, "well intentioned". These witnesses gave a window into what they do, which is nothing. One of our problems is that we have too many people in government, too many lawyers, and too many journalists, sourcing their articles from tv, and their political leanings. If we cut these numbers, the remaining would be forced to focus on what is important to this nation.

This makes me see history in a different light. Back in 1979 the Iran seizure of the US Embassy and hostage crisis caught them completely off guard. Our diplomatic corp had no inkling the Soviet Union was about to collapse in the early '90s. When US Embassies were attack in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998 they never saw it coming. A lot of personnel were killed. The subsequent 9/11/01 attacks were a complete surprise to our intelligence agencies and various 'public servants'. Seems like they do not have a good track record.

Based on my teaching experience, some epileptics (Roberts is afflicted with it)who encounter high stress levels sometimes suffer seizures in that environment.
It would be tragic if that happened to Chief Judas John Roberts while presiding in that setting.
In addition, the anti-seizure medications he is taking can impair judgment, which is partly the reason for denying drivers licenses to some of them.

The testimony during the Schiff show conclusively showed that the civil servants who administered our Ukranian policy were in the service of their respective agencies, and did not serve the President. Whatever happened to civilian political control? These people were not elected. Marie Yovanovitch should have known that she served at the pleasure of the President then in office, and did not serve Obama in perpetuity. I feel sorry for her, since she is apparently the victim of a bad delusion.
And the other dweebs had their undies in a knot because they were not allowed to run things.
Too bad. Fire them. That is what happens when a new President takes over.

"appeared to be well-intentioned and hard-working, and seemed genuinely to believe they know what’s best"
I worked with many technocrats who thought the same way. They knew the book inside and out and followed it slavishly. They have their purpose in maintaining things to keep them working. Where they fail is in creative thinking to deal with new paradigms and meeting challenges. To them, the old answers are always good, even when they don't work, because the book says it is what you should do. They may not be deliberately malign but the results of their actions may cause serious problems.
This may be why we have had so many failures of foreign policy. When a stiff, non creative group is in charge, they will never try new things and will not find solutions. Trump is all about new directions that don't fit in the bureaucrats box. The bureaucrats don't like it. They can't find it in their book and that unnerves them. It also invalidates them because they don't know what they should do and can't keep up and that causes them to fear for themselves and for the little fiefdoms that they rule.
In this Country we elect our leaders and THEY are Constitutionally assigned the rights to make policy, not career bureaucrats. They may have frustrations but running a game of "resistance" and undermining the President is NOT acceptable, EVEN IF THE PRESIDENT IS WRONG. Such bureaucrats should be terminated immediately. I suspect that Trump has known what was going on and tried to deal with it by working around it instead of going on a messy mass firing campaign. That option may no longer be workable. Get on board or get out.
