Myles Garrett’s appeal of his indefinite suspension included a claim that Mason Rudolph used a racial slur before their brawl, ESPN.com reported. Garrett is trying to have his ban reduced after he swung his helmet wildly at the Steelers quarterback in the final seconds of the Browns’ 21-7 win over Pittsburgh last Thursday. Rudolph strongly denied the accusation, both through the team and his attorney. “This is a lie. This false allegation was never asserted by Garrett in the aftermath of the game, never suggested prior to the hearing, and conspicuously absent in the apology published by the Browns and adopted by Garrett

If you watch the film, the quarterback clearly attempted to remove Garrett's helmet first.
He just was not strong enough to do the job.

The Univeral Excuse, almost always a lie, of course.
This puts Mr. Garrett, firmly on my list of bad persons.

There is nothing in Myles Garret's history to suggest he is a dirty player or prone to such an outburst. Something set him off just as Rudloph released his helmet.

Hate to give my husband credit, but he called this one...he said, you wait, he will end using a "racial" excuse as to why he tried to beat him with his helmet. My initial reaction was, he had 3 guys from the opposing team all coming at him at once and he had a helmet in his hand...he started swinging it. I think it all happened in seconds...but I don't think it was because Rudolph used a racial slur against him.

So, if someone calls me a white supremacist, cracker, or honky which are racial slurs, I can legally attack, injure, and possibly kill him? Is this the new standard? If so, there will be a lot of bloodshed!

Even if he was called a racial slur, the adult response is not to hit someone in the head with a football helmet on national TV.

One could point out that as long as members of a race use slurs when referring to each other, it is total hipocrisy to complain when that same slur is used by someone of another race.

If I say, I love my mother, and Myles Garrett says your mother wears army boots.
I now have permission to bash Myles Garrett in his head with his own helmet.
Enjoy your suspension, and I hope you sell a lot of used cars during your time off.

I went to youtube to watch the video of the attack. No excuse!! After a sloppy late tackle he held on to the helmet face plate like bulldog until he wrenched it off the quarterback's head and then hit the quarterback squarely on the head with it. It was aimed at the quarterbacks head, no doubt. Sorry, but that was reckless and could have resulted in permanent injury. He deserves any suspension they come up with imo. Low impulse control, horrible sportsmanship, and adrenaline all contributed for sure but no excuse for that kind of play.

Mason Rudolph has said that he lost control of himself, and has to learn how to control his emotions. (He played badly, threw 4 interceptions, lost to Cleveland, for heaven's sake, which is almost impossible to do. Garrett should not have played the race card, though. He should just be thankful that Maurkice Pouncey did not kick him to death.

Nothing wrong with swinging into action with an old standby defense that has worked so many times in the past. He was essentially just telling the Quarterback, “if the helmet fits wear it, here I will help you”! No matter what was said, Garrett overreacted, and committed an aggravated assault, that could easily have seriously hurt or even killed the Quarterback.

As #1 alludes to, if you watch the film it is clear that Mason Rudolph did, and said, something which set Myles Garrett off. That does not in any way justify Garrett's actions and the league needs to think long and hard before allowing him to play again.
That being said, the league should also keep Mason Rudolph under a microscope, because if he had been able to remove Myles Garrett's helmet he may have done something just as bad.

Pretty boy Rudolph probably did say something. He looks like the kind of guy who expects special treatment because he's a quarterback, and Rudolph absolutely tried to put Mason's helmet off first.

Maybe Garrett and Kaperickus can do a half-time minstrel show. Oops the word minstrel is racist.

Isn't the QB helmet wired... so anything he said would be on tape?

Not defending Garrett on this, but anything going to happen to Rudolph and the 3 other steeler players that held Garrett while ole little Rudolph tried kicking Garrett in his manhood parts. Nope. `and watch the tape, Rudolph does not try to attack Garrett until the 3 steelers players hold Garrett. suspend ALL OF THEM.

Why would Rudolph initiate a physical act with Garrett before the bonking incident?
What happened before THAT? Something. Does anyone really think a medium sized white guy is throwing around racial insults in a game vastly populated by giant black guys?
I don't care what happened before the bonking, tweaking the opposition is part of football, what Garrett did is not. I remember several years back when a surly North Carolina Tarheel hoops team claimed something similar to what Garrett is saying now, I've hated them since. If I didn't think much of Garrett before, I think way less of him now.

Banning words gives offended parties a license to either murder (e.g. the guy at the fair who was sucker punched a few months back for supposedly using the "n" word), or attempt it (e.g. this football incident, and the lady who got body slammed at the Popeys Chicken a couple of weeks ago).
What will be the results of banning "illegal alien" in New York?

Back in the 60's (when I played) we always enjoyed a good fight at practice or at a game.
Let 'em fight. It's a good show and gives you a minute to catch your breath while finding out who's tough in a sport where tough is what matters most. Many will be injured and a few will die.
What's the problem ?

I lost a $50 bet that I made immediately after the game as I was off by four days when wagering how long it would take this goombah to play the race card.

For context, one really needs to watch the entire play. There is lass the a minute left on the game. The Steelers have the game in hand. The Browns run a screen pass, leaving Garrett unblocked. Rudolph delivers the ball then Garret wraps Rudolph up and drives him to the ground (which should have been flagged for roughing the passer as it was well after Rudolph had thrown the ball). Garrett continued to hold Rudolph and pin him to the ground. Words were certainly exchanged as Rudolph was taking offense to the fact that Garrett would not release him. Whether Rudolph kneed Garrett in the groin, accidentally or purposefully is, to me, not clear. Rudolph then clearly starts twisting Garrett's helmet (some comment that Rudolph's hand may have been stuck in Garrett's face mask, but that to is unclear to me). Garrett then pulls Rudolph up by his face mask and rips Rudolph's helmet off. As another Brown's player steps between them Garrett swings the helmet, striking Rudolph in the top of the head. Fortunately the direction that Garrett swung, the more flexible (and padded) bottom-rear side of the helmet struck Rudolph. Had it been otherwise, Rudolph would have left in an ambulance and it is likely that Garrett would have left in handcuffs. Now, nothing that Rudolph did, nor any thing that he might have said can excuse Garrett's actions.
