A familiar sight during the holiday season is the iconic red kettle used by The Salvation Army for donations. Volunteers stand next to the kettle and ring a bell as passersby walk into grocery stores or retail stores. Who would protest when a British singer announced her agreement to partner with the international charity? The perpetually outraged Twitter mob, of course. Singer Ellie Goulding set off a firestorm on social media among LGBTQ activists when she posted the announcement of her collaboration with the Christian charity. She agreed to sing as the halftime act for the Dallas Cowboys – Buffalo Bills Thanksgiving Day game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

This has been a very big deal in the North Texas area, and Ms. Golding didn't get much support for her demand.

If she can"t take the heat from her political friends, she shouldn't make deals with Jerry Jones. If players on his team have "social justice" interests, they set them aside amd put playing football for the team first, and if they want to pursue those interests, they do it on THEIR OWN TIME. Get someone else!

Why do LGBTQ feel the need to be singled out? Why can't the Salvation Army say " We help all in need" and leave it at that instead of having a "special" category for the LGBTQ activists?

Just to set things straight. (Helping all in need) is exactly what The Salvation Army does without discrimination towards anyone! Someone here does not understand. This all came about when Goulding accepted the invitation to sing the National Anthem at a football game for the Salvation Army. The LGBTQ community immediately attacked her solely because the Salvation Army is a Christian charity and for no other reason. The Salvation Army had to come back and specifically explain they DO NOT DISCRIMINATE! If not for uneducated LGBTQ attacking without knowing the record of the organization this would have never come up. By the way, please put a little in the bucket every time you pass one this season.

Some years ago, as my nieces and nephews grew into adulthood, I began replacing Christmas gifts for them with a donation in their names to the Salvation Army. I love them for their strong Christian tradition, and for the strong history of beautiful music. Their brass arrangements are tops. For your listening and viewing pleasure, here is a beautiful, soothing collection of Christmas carols by S. A. bands. Ramona (the Pest)

When have LGBTQ groups ever offered charity instead of antipathy to people who aren't like them? Christians do every day. Conservatives do. Chick-Fil-A does! But we tolerate scorn from people who are only out to pleasure themselves. No more.

“On Nov. 8, an anonymous donor dropped a 1-ounce “Gold Eagle” coin, worth between $1,200 and $1,500, into a red kettle at a Hobby Lobby in Crystal Lake, the Salvation Army said in a statement Wednesday.” I don’t think that it is a coincidence that it happened outside a Hobby Lobby. The left treats Hobby Lobby the same way they treat Chick-fil-A, both Christian owned companies which are closed on Sunday.

Ms. Goulding should have done a little fact checking or research about the Salvation Army before she made her demands. All that she and the alphabet people she was pandering to accomplished in this case was to make themselves look like small, closed minded bigots who just assume that because an organization is Christian that it could not possibly want to help LGBTQ alphabet types of people. Once again, the intolerant left has shown their true colors. Also, the Cowboys should have told Ms. Goulding, thank-you, we will get another more inclusive singer for the Thanksgiving half-time show.

One of my closest friends leaves gold coins--usually $10 eagles from the Nineteenth Century--in Salvation Army buckets each year. The Left really are trying to dismantle everything worthy and good in society. They can't do anything worthwhile, so they pervert what they disapprove of. Hell ain't half full.

Did anyone else catch this? "“It was very exciting to start the kettle season by finding a gold coin in the very first kettle we processed,” Major Barbara Owen, corps officer at The Salvation Army Crystal Lake Corps Community Center, said." George Bernard Shaw wrote a play called "Major Barbara" about a woman who joined the Salvation Army, which has had many productions and also was made into a movie.

‘The strong do what they can. The weak suffer what they must.’ Thucydides’ principle expresses an uncomfortable truth. The eight-day meeting between Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill at Yalta in the Crimea in February 1945 settled the fate of Eastern Europe and beyond. Its effects are still with us. President George W. Bush compared it with the way Britain, France and the Soviet Union sold out to Hitler before the war began: he called it ‘one of the greatest wrongs of history’. ‘Yalta’, like ‘Munich’, has become a synonym for the cynical betrayal of the weak by the strong. It is an oft-told, well-documented and controversial story.

Other people in his position, though, would likely be more than a bit concerned about their future, given that, based on a new report, the president’s lawyer is now the subject of three different investigations. Former city council member John Beard has a term to describe Port Arthur residents. In his Gulf Coast city of 55,000, people have all but given up on getting the help they need to recover from the storm that damaged or destroyed about 80 percent of housing, turning neighborhoods into lakes. Beard calls the city’s residents “Harvey-fatigued.” In the majority-minority city, home to oil refineries and one of the highest unemployment rates in the state, many residents can’t afford to rebuild their homes or relocate more than two years after Hurricane Harvey. Some are still living in moldy, barely habitable houses that haven’t been gutted,

Donald Tusk has been ridiculed for suggesting that Brexit marks the end of the British Empire. But he has a point. January 31, 2020 – assuming the date doesn’t move again – should finally bring to a close Britain’s involvement in colonial delusion. And that is exactly why we are right to leave. Like the British Empire, the European Union is an exercise in patrician rule and one which is sustained by an unshakeable sense of moral and cultural superiority. How better to sum up its pretensions to be more than a mere trade bloc, or even a superstate, than the words of Tusk himself,

From cities that never sleep to remote rural villages, one technology is changing how we live and work. From the smartphones in our pockets to the vast datacentres powering the internet, from electric scooters to hypersonic aircraft, pacemakers to weather-predicting supercomputers – inside every one of them, unseen and unsung, are tiny pieces of tech that make it all possible: semiconductors. These are the basic building blocks of modern computation. Semiconductor devices called transistors are the tiny electronic switches that run computations inside our computers. Scientists in the US built the first silicon transistor in 1947. Before that, the mechanics of computing had been performed by vacuum tubes,

Texas' highest criminal court halted Rodney Reed's execution Friday afternoon, sending the now-famous case back to the trial court to further review several claims — biggest of all that he is innocent of the murder that landed him on death row more than 20 years ago. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals' ruling came hours after the state's parole board separately recommended Gov. Greg Abbott delay Reed's Wednesday execution by 120 days. The court's ruling effectively preempts any gubernatorial involvement since it takes Reed's execution off the calendar and starts a new legal process. Reed's case has gained an enormous amount of attention — with dozens of state and federal lawmakers

From the view of the White House and some top Republicans, U.S. Rep. During Friday's public hearings, Yovanovitvh told Stewart, a Utah Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, that she could supply the panel with no information regarding criminal activity or bribes that President Trump may have been involved with. Did some team request this? How many general managers will show up? Is this simply a ploy for atonement by the NFL? Yet, around here, a more important question needs to be asked: Can Kaepernick help the Buccaneers? It’s an interesting and legitimate question with, at this point, no clear answer. Kaepernick has not been in an NFL uniform in nearly three years so it’s worth wondering if his skills have atrophied.
