WASHINGTON — A federal judge ruled Thursday that Hoda Muthana, a US-born woman who left the country to join ISIS, is not an American citizen, and therefore the government has no obligation to facilitate her return — or that of her 2-year-old son. Judge Reggie Walton said there was sufficient evidence that Muthana had been born while her father, who once represented Yemen in the United Nations, still had diplomatic status in the US. Federal regulations and international law state that children of foreign diplomats born in the US are not subject to the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which guarantees birthright citizenship, because they are born

If this case went to the U.S. Supreme Court, how would the twisted legal reasoning of Chief Judas John Roberts apply? (We know how the three witches would rule...along with Breyer)

Her foreign family was legally in the USA, but had diplomatic immunity when she was born, therefore they and she were not under the jurisdiction of the USA at the time of her birth. Now they need a forthright Judge to rule that the only aliens who are within the jurisdiction of the USA are aliens who are in the USA in accordance with the immigration laws.

So - doesn’t that lead to the question of how was she living in the US for her entire life if she was not a citizen and her father was no longer a diplomat? US says she had no visa to be here. Is her father still here too? How does this work

I'm at a loss to understand how that very same federal regulation doesn't at least apply equally to people who were born elsewhere but entered the U.S. illegally, since they too "...are born under the jurisdiction of another country." Crazy!?!

CNN reported Thursday evening that top Democrats are privately acknowledging that the impeachment hearings will do little to persuade the vast majority of the public that President Trump committed an impeachable offense. According to CNN, in a private meeting earlier this week, "House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her top lieutenants were skeptical about the prospects of a dramatic shift in opinion even as public impeachment hearings began this week, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter." Nevertheless, they intend to carry on, in the hopes that things might change. Democrats have tried various shifts in narratives in order to find something that would stick,

Former US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch testified Friday that the Obama administration was so concerned about Hunter Biden’s job on Burisma’s board of directors that she was asked prep questions about the issue by White House staffers before her 2016 Senate confirmation. In response to questions from GOP counsel Stephen Castor, Yovanovitch testified at the House Intelligence Committee’s second public impeachment hearing that she had been informed about the lucrative gig Hunter Biden landed with the petroleum producer — which paid the son of then-Vice President Joe Biden as much as $50,000 a month despite his seeming lack of relevant experience —

The Trump administration is preparing to submit court filings as early as next week as a necessary step toward seizing private land in Texas for its wall on the border with Mexico, NBC reported Thursday. Administration officials still haven’t said how much the government will compensate affected landowners. “I still think we’re on track to get the land we need for 450 miles” of border wall, Acting Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection Mark Morgan told reporters on Thursday. The government may file to appropriate the land in federal court in Texas under the Declaration of Taking Act, which would expedite the appropriation process.

It has been apparent for weeks, but on Wednesday it will become official: Julián Castro will not qualify for the November debate stage. It’s a sobering reality for an already struggling campaign. Last week, the Democratic former San Antonio mayor’s team slashed staff in two early states. Last month, he threatened to end his White House bid if he didn’t raise $800,000 in the final 10 days of October — a goal he narrowly hit. His campaign insists he’s not exiting the race now, but staying afloat with months to go before February’s Iowa caucus will be a tall task.

On Thursday night, the underdog Cleveland Browns met the Pittsburgh Steelers. And the Browns showed up, beating the Steelers 21-7 in a pretty decisive victory. That wouldn’t be big news, normally. But at the end of the game, Browns defensive end Myles Garrett got into an altercation unlike anything I’ve ever seen in my decades of watching football. (snip) Where this became far different and more dangerous than your typical football scuffle is that, during the entanglement, Myles Garrett actually reared back and attempted to windmill-tomahawk slam the helmet he was holding on top of Mason Rudolph’s exposed skull with furious gusto.

It follows the testimony earlier this week from U.S. chargé d'affaires in Ukraine Bill Taylor and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe George Kent. Sparked by a whistleblower complaint, the investigation has centered on whether the president improperly used his office to pressure Ukranian President Voldomyr Zelensky into ordering investigations -- including into the family of 2020 contender Joe Biden -- that could have been politically beneficial to his reelection campaign
