Let the 2020 cycle be a warning to political correspondents who write glowing profile pieces on the next great Democratic party hope. For some of us, the best part of this cycle so far is watching the slow-motion implosion of so many wildly over-hyped “rising stars” of the Democratic party — relentlessly trying and failing to gain traction against a trio of well-worn septuagenarians. This primary is turning into a giant bonfire of once-promising political talents who could make national reporters swoon.
As far back as 2017, Vogue and other national glossies gushed over the presidential potential of Kirsten Gillibrand.
Beto O’Rourke was the favorite subject of glowing profiles

A guilty pleasure watching arrogant Dem clowns like Kamala and Beto stumble and crater. A party bereft of talent and vision. Great riddance!

Of all the "rising stars"( and believe me I took great joy in a magazine I loved for multi years, Vanity Fair, ending up with egg on its face re: Beto O'Roarke) I think I take the greatest pleasure in the rise and fall of Kamila Harris, she of the wildly false laugh, the dictatorial hands for emphasis, and the general "I know more than you do" attitude. She was terrifying as a prosecutor (using the married Willie Brown as a springboard) in that she seemed like some sort of bad version of an Old Testament judge and jury. An earlier fear was that she would be someone's VP but she seems to have cancelled that out as well I HOPE!

I think these people are just sacrificial lambs running against an immovable Trump with more rational Dems hoping for a brokered convention. The party will return to the system that got Hillary the nomination over Sanders - hidden un-elected voters. The Dem's problem is that their noisy bat-crap base are socialists who may do okay in their big-city strongholds but cannot win elsewhere and may also be losing union rank and file. We need to win big in 2020 but Dems will re-configure themselves and may be much more dangerous down the road. Abortion, taxes, fed spending - these are all issues which will remain even if we turn the Surpeme Court back around.

These individuals are not stars by any accepted definition. They are shallow, vapid non achievers with no gravitas or negligible charisma. This process has revealed them to be arrogant, corrupt opportunists. The only regret is that we will not be able to see the share the same podium as the Donald and be ripped to shreds.

It's not just politics that suffer from over-hyped new kids in town. How many times has some up-and-comer been labeled the next Beatles, the next Gretzky, the greatest thing since sliced bread? Hype is what the media does best. For decades the media has been obsessed with identifying the next JFK. Going forward they'll be adding the next Obama to that mix. Almost all of them will crash and burn, and much schadenfreude will be had watching them do so.

It's all political show-boating. The Democrat candidate will appear from behind the curtain at the appropriate time and will likely be none of the above. The way Democrat candidates for POTUS are selected is the same way POTUS will be forever selected if ever a Democrat ever gets the power of POTUS in hand.

It's not just California. Study the fiscal calamity that is happening in the State of Illinois. The state is both politically and financially bankrupt. Jobs are leaving the state by the thousands because companies are tired of over-regulation and very high taxation. The progressive way has hollowed out the state like a roach, yet the legs are still moving.
The real estate market is collapsing now especially in the more affluent areas in and around Chicago and where I grew up in Lake County. New housing starts have screeched to a halt. A very corrupt dim/mafia machine has ruled the state for decades and the chickens are coming home to roost now. It won't be much longer before the financial community refuses to bail out the state anymore.

FTA: But the other lesson is that running for president is really hard, and a lot of these candidates have spent most of their careers in heavily Democratic areas and states where the political wind was always at their back.
In other words, their deficiencies show when they don't get soft ball questions. Kamala Harris is sounding more and more like Hillary Clinton each day. All of them are making promises that there is not enough money in the country to establish, much less, maintain.
The only thing that is progressive about Progressives is their agendas would make everything progressively worse. #Venezuela

The Clown Bus was always filled with clowns, none of them even remotely serious people. All of them barking mad communists.

And these losers are the best that the dems have to offer. I didn't realize that "one percenters" referred to most of the dem candidates who can't poll enough to be credible.

I would have thought that threatening to take AR-15s from the hands of law-abiding citizens, many of whom probably used the equivalent military model M-4 to risk their lives defending their country would have been a sure winner as a campaign goal. Maybe Beto was just too white. Maybe a few dozen more polls will provide us with an answer.
