Environmentalists intent on finding new ways to reduce so-called greenhouse gas emissions to curb climate change have proposed a novel method: feed cows seaweed to diminish methane in flatulence, belches, and manure.
Ermias Kebreab, an zoology professor at the University of California–Davis, led a team in producing a bovine meal regimen containing varying levels of Asparagopsis armata, a strain of red seaweed, and fed it to 12 dairy cows over a two-month period. In a mix containing just 1 percent seaweed, the cows’ methane emissions went down by a stunning 60 percent.

Maybe this is a also a test about the future feeding of the masses under socialism: grubs, grasshoppers, algae and seaweed. Sadly not a stretch.

To do this we can truck seaweed from the coasts to Nebraska. Brilliant.

There is no problem with farting cows. This is just a stalking horse for the meatless utopia of leftism.

Not mentioned is the milk and meat production effect of this diet. Methane makes up .00017% of the atmosphere compared to CO2 which makes up .039% and water vapor which makes up from .2% to 4% of the atmosphere. Water vapor is a larger contributor to temperatures but do varying temperatures cause the variation in water vapor percentages or vice versa, I am never really sure. This would be a great project for the warmists to pursue.

Seaweed serves a great purpose right where it is. It puts oxygen into the seawater.
Start harvesting it and you will damage the environment.

I'll bet that stuff tastes bad........ Let's give the red seaweed to liberals so they don't fart. That is a bigger source of gas.

How about every cow wears a little backpack, a methane collection device with a tube leading to, ahem, the source. Periodically someone could go collect it to power a hybrid car. Better yet, strap a cow to the top of each hybrid car.

As always, there's a downside.
FTA: 'While flatulence is an issue, studies have suggested that cow belching is a much bigger problem because of the methane produced in cows’ stomachs. “Despite misconceptions, most cow methane comes from burps (90%) rather than farts (10%),”
Back to the drawing board.

A lot of sea life depends on seaweed as their food source. What happens if large quantities of seaweed is harvest and removed from the sea to feed cows?

#18, you can't expect them city slickers to know one end of a cow from the other. They don't even know which is which on their own bodies!

But, but seaweed is contaminated with waste from the Japanese nuclear accident -- with more nuclear waste being added just recently when the bags it was stored in were swept out to sea (shouldn't those bags have been stored more, um, carefully?). Surely the enviros must be aware that seaweed and fish are no longer fit for human or cow consumption?

I still advocate for picking on other animals, not just cows! Not fair!
And #22, not only do "them city slickers" not know one end of a cow from the other, they also don't know what constitutes a "cow" vs. a "bull" (and we won't even get into heifers and steers).
True story: My college roommate's "cowboy" boyfriend told her that a cow decoration had to be a bull because it had horns and "only bulls have horns."
I laughed long and hard at that one and then told him, "Hey, 'cowboy,' that's the wrong end of the animal to be looking at to determine its sex!"
