While Halloween glorifies ghosts and goblins, death and mayhem, and maybe entertaining, don’t miss one of the most important events in Christian history: Martin Luther’s nailing of the 95-Thesis protesting the selling of indulgences to absolve purchasers from sin.
All Souls’ (Saints) Day (November 1) is a Roman Catholic, Anglican and some Protestants’ celebration of Christian saints. The night before, October 31, first known as All-Hallows Eve before its more common name Halloween. On October 31, 1517, Luther tacked a document on the Wittenberg Castle Church’s door attacking the Roman Catholic Church’s corrupt practices. Thus sparking the Protestant Reformation.
I despise Halloween----- Godless, hedonistic, pagan day in no way equal to Thanksgiving and Christmas. The only good thing about it is that candy is half price the next day.... if I get to the supermarket early enough.

When I think of Martin Luther I also think of the Peasants Revolt of 1534 when the serfs were slaughtered by the aristocracy. Martin Luther was not backing the peasants.

November 1st is All Saints Day, or All Hallows Day and so All Hallows Eve, October 31st, got to be called Halloween. I always got All Saints Day off in grade and high school : ) as it is a Holy Day of Obligation, just like Sundays and Christmas.

Luther is my hero. A trained Lawyer he entered the priesthood and would spend hours face down in prayer trying to EARN forgiveness for his sins as a Catholic Monk. Only when the Scriptures were opened to him through Galatians, Ephesians and Romans along with all of Scripture did Luther dictate Faith Alone Saves, and we can do NOTHING to earn this gift from God! He also taught Sola Scripture... On Scripture Alone and he translated the first Latin Bible into German for the peasants to read! He had some quirks but those without sin may cast the first stone!

Luther simply wanted changes to the RCC. He did not want to leave the Church.. Even as a child I told the nuns that it is a good thing that Protestants are there to avoid an all powerful Vatican. They would give me the side-eye and the Marge Simpson dysphonic MMM !

Every good military leader knows the best way to defeat an army is to divide and conquer it.
Martin Luther may have had good intentions, but he played right into Satan's plan to divide and conquer Christianity. Just look around you. On every other corner, there is a church that is a different denomination -- and most of them hate other Christians more than they love God. There are thousands of different denominations of Christianity, many of which split from some other denomination over some petty difference.
I had to leave the Baptist Church of my youth because they got a pastor that spent Sunday after Sunday preaching that anyone who didn't believe exactly like we did was going straight to Hell!!! For some reason, he really hated the Church of Christ. I never understood that, because their services seemed an awful lot like ours (minus the organ, of course).

I read many essays and articles about Martin Luther, including his commentaries. He was an earthy man who expressed himself freely and oftentimes vulgarly. He would not fit into today’s idea of ChristianIty. Since he was excommunicated by Pope Leo, he was protected by powerful German princes. Other Reformers, like Calvin, had to flee for their safety. Obviously, they could not reform the Catholic Church. They founded their own congregations of believers.

I highly recommend Eric Metaxas' book on Martin Luther, aptly titled, Martin Luther. Much of what Martin Luther did laid a path for classic liberalism and the modern West (sadly, we're in an era that could be described as a post-modern West). He does not lionize Luther though as he does point out his many flaws. One interesting fact that I didn't know was the Luther was responsible for bringing congregational music (hymns) into the church. He wrote A Mighty Fortress is Our God. Interesting trivia.

Luther never "nailed" or "tacked" his theses to the church door, a myth that has been perpetuated for centuries. He submitted them to his bishop. PS: Number 7, you have no knowledge whatsoever of Catholic doctrine. I suggest you read something about it before commenting further about the Church.

#3-The insurrection was more than a series of uprising by rural bands. Martin Luther made the distinction between two realms—worldly and spiritual.
#5-“502 years later”/ Other than theELCA, the LutheranChurch does not need to reform itself. TheELCA needs to get back to Scripture and abolish the “political correctness” that has seeped into Catholic and ProtestantChurches; example, God created two genders(Genesis1:27). Back to “Sola Scriptura.”
#9-“divide, conquer)/ Conjecture. God selects individuals to bring about His will and may have used MartinLuther to bring about the Reformation.
#10-“vulgarity”/ The choice of word is offensive; MartinLuther was born of peasants and lived in a time when language was “earthy.” It is unlikely that MartinLuther used any indecency/obscenity/or lewdness in their most vulgar definitions.
#11-“path for classic liberalism/ The Reformation has very positive effects for mankind including more development of thought about family and sacred marriage, aspects of dying, discipline, manners, love, religious diversity; capitalism had already begun, but had a renewal start in Italian city/states; paved the way for a “Protestant Work Ethic” through the distinction between “temporal” and “spiritual” that allowed hard labor to be elevated and no longer seen as an inferior life; an influence on theology, “Sola Scriptura.”

#12-“never nailed/tacked”/ The Castle Church in Wittenberg was used by the university as is “campus church” and that door served as a public bulletin board for the academic community so quite likely MartinLuther posted the Ninety-Five Theses to the door. -- Referencing #7, many Lutherans are well-versed in Scripture because of Sola Scripture and aware of the differences between Catholic and Lutheran Doctrines. Perhaps it would be appropriate for Catholics to study Lutheran Doctrine before pronouncing MartinLuther a heretic.
#7-MartinLuther is a hero to many and, if he was selected by God to bring about the Reformation, perhaps he has heard the blessed words, “...‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’”(Matthew 25:23)
MartinLuther is a “saint.”
Romans1:7/ To all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1Corinthians1:2/ To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours:
