The Eye-Popping Cost
of Medicare for All

Senator Elizabeth Warren’s refusal to answer repeated questions at last night’s debate about how she would fund Medicare for all underscores the challenge she faces finding a politically acceptable means to meet the idea’s huge price tag—a challenge that only intensified today with the release of an eye-popping new study. The Urban Institute, a center-left think tank highly respected among Democrats, is projecting that a plan similar to what Warren and Senator Bernie Sanders are pushing would require $34 trillion in additional federal spending over its first decade in operation. That’s more than the federal government’s total cost over the coming decade for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid combined,

And it would entirely destroy our health care system. I recently had a knee surgery, billing was $68K-ish. The TOTAL paid out by Medicare was $8k-ish, or roughly 12% of the billed amount. Do that on a small percentage, since most medical practices limit the number of Medicare patients that they will accept, and you can make up the losses on the welfare/Medicare patients with the actual paying patients. If all were welfare/Medicare patients, the system would financially collapse from underpayment, while the government would go broke, even while NOT PAYING ENOUGH TO KEEP THE SYSTEM WORKING. I really resent the hell out being forced onto this Medicare system where I feel like a welfare patient, Medicare using government power to not pay the proper amount for services rendered. I wish there was a way to have kept my old health care insurance plan which paid a fairer portion, and kept the system solvent. The stupid, evil Obamacare garbage started out at triple the cost, and after two years wound up at 5 times the cost of my good BC&BS personal health care coverage (no employer match) that I had for several years before I was forced onto Medicare.

Even worse than the horrific cost is the fact that no one will be getting any treatment, Medicare is a hoax. Doctors won't treat medicare subscribers because Medicare won't pay them,. Medicare just means higher costs for patients, less cost participation, and staggering levels of fraud. .

Are they forgetting they wanted illegals to have insurance too ? Neither Bernie nor the faux squaw have ever been self employed looking for health insurance. I used to say "Bo don't know math" but it's obvious these two are clueless when spending OPM. Pandering for votes from millennials.

When it comes to winning games and solving puzzles, sometimes monkeys play smarter than humans. Monkeys may show off their physical flexibility as they clamber over tangled tree branches, but the animals also display impressive "cognitive flexibility," or the ability to quickly change how they think about, and work to solve, a problem. Whereas monkeys can think on their feet, humans often become set in their ways and cling to inefficient strategies for problem solving, according to new research. "We are a unique species and have various ways in which we are exceptionally different from every other creature on the planet. But we're also sometimes really dumb," study co-author Julia Watzek,

The cowhands who watch over the 1,500 head of South Dakota’s Custer State Park buffalo herd say they won’t approach mature bulls until their harem females are in heat. Apparently when you weigh two-and-a-half tons, carry a head like a viking anvil and boast a top speed of 30 mph, no one rounds you up until you damn well feel like it. That kind of zero-sum, survival-of-the-fittest mentality built the state of South Dakota, and it still dominates the annual autumn roundup of the state’s largest buffalo herd, a prime tourist attraction. On Sunday, Dallas Cowboys fans witnessed the latest ignominy of the Jason Garrett era. The team suffered its third consecutive loss, forcing a reckoning in its identity from “probable playoff team and Super Bowl hopeful” to “just one game better than the hapless New York Giants.” And while the previous two losses happened against good teams, Sunday’s defeat at the hands of the previously winless New York Jets means that Dallas has no excuses left. Football is a team sport, and there’s plenty of blame to go around in this loss—but if you’re looking for a key target, head coach Jason Garrett is your guy. Here’s a video of Cowboys defenders

Beto O’Rourke, I do believe, is a psychopath. Let me explain. First, we must admit the evident. O’Rourke, spectacularly privileged by every measure, boasts an unspectacular political career. City councilor, sometime congressman, he offers little of anything notable, at least by way of accomplishment. Except, of course, for himself; jumping earnestly from one platform to another, he is, at the very least, a virtuoso opportunist, a character trait he likely imbibed in utero. Failed, though, as a candidate for the Senate (we Texans might be right-wingers, but we are not dumb), he will soon undoubtedly be a double political failure. Polling just under 2%,

Each fall, the major British parties hold their annual conferences. This year, Labour Party apparatchiks descended on Brighton, while the Tories went north, to Manchester. These jamborees come with predictable features: an aging core of loyal members, slogan tee shirts and badges, and, at the end, a speech from the party leader—in the case of the Tories, Prime Minister Boris Johnson—or from the man who wants his job—in the case of Labour, Jeremy Corbyn. Beyond the outward signs of business as usual, this year’s conference season confirmed just how far British politics has veered from normal. Labour’s conference was interrupted by news that the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom

I cannot wait to learn more about the identity and motives of the secret whistleblower who figures so prominently in stories of Trump’s phone call with the newly elected Ukrainian president. The narrative that began a month ago, as an insider’s accusation of Trump’s threat to cut off U.S. military aid unless investigations were launched into his expected opponent Joe Biden, has evolved considerably. It now appears — in spite of initial denials — that the whistleblower consulted with House Intelligence Committee (HIC) staff before filing his complaint — and was advised immediately to obtain counsel. Somehow, the chosen counsel was part of a whistleblower search organization,

The northern snakehead is a long, blotchy-patterned fish that can breathe on land and travel on the ground by wriggling its slippery body. But those might not be the species’ most nightmarish qualities. Snakeheads have a voracious appetit; they've been known to chow down not only on other fish, but also crustaceans, reptiles, mammals and small birds. They are invasive to the United States, threatening to displace native species and upset the balance of aquatic ecosystems. The fish have been reported in more than a dozen states across the nation and, as Christine Hauser reports for the New York Times, they have now been found

President Trump faced criticism on social media and from journalists after claiming the United States has a "shared political and cultural history" with Italy because of ancient Rome. During a press conference with Italian President Sergio Mattarella, Trump noted that Italy and the U.S. are bound together through shared ties to the ancient city, saying, "The United States and Italy are bound together by a shared cultural and political heritage dating back thousands of years to ancient Rome." The Founding Fathers of the U.S. had a well-documented affinity for the Roman republic, evidence of which is prevalent in American representative government and civic architecture.
