This is interesting on the merits but also interesting in that two of the most powerful platforms in right-wing media are promoting it.
I suppose one could argue that Trump handing the G7 to his own business isn’t a textbook emolument since it doesn’t really function as a bribe, which is what the constitutional ban is all about. We don’t want the president receiving fat envelopes from foreign dignitaries for fear that that’ll influence his views on foreign policy.

If Trump was making a bucket load of money off this deal like Biden, then maybe but just breaking even? I don’t think so!

The writer is working hard to be as dumb as Napolitano. Let's count the times Allahpundit stopped the presses to write about the obvious enrichment of almost every member of congress, starting with Nancy Pelosi's husband and his many inside the fed deals. Imagine a world where the bribed 'lawmakers' had the kind of minute by minute scrutiny President Trump has.
Does anyone really think the taxpayers would get a better deal if the G7 summit was held anywhere else? At least this way there will be less listening devices in the walls.

So what! Let him make his millions. Good for the economy especially for the hotel employees. What politicians, Democrats, and Republicans never took advantage of their position to fill their pockets? Democrats are the WORST offenders.

Napolitano is a horse's hind end, and wouldn't know the Constitution if it bit him.

POTUS does not keep his salary. He donates it back to one government agency or something (can't donate" it outside of government, I understand). So already, President Trump gives back. He doesn't take.
I wish some reporter had the nerve to ask any number of wealthy Congressmen and women, Pelosi, for example, to not accept their salary. I think we ought to find out.

When the G8 was held at Camp David did the foreign dignitaries fork over for room and board. I don't think so. When the G7 was held in Ottawa why did the press explode about its cost to the Canadian taxpayers. Because that's what it means to be a host nation. The host nation HOSTS the dignitaries by contracting for the conference site, security, catering, and everything else so they can just show up. This isn't a dentist's convention in Vegas people. There is no foreign money involved so the emoluments clause that is supposed to protect US government people from foreign bribes doesn't apply. If the expenses are paid by the US taxpayers and the Doral is doing it for cost this means that we can save a boatload over the local Marriott or maybe Disney World.

Napolitano is like Krauthammer . Almost conservative, always wrong but very entertaining.

Sorry, #9, Napolitano can't hold a candle to Krauthammer intellectually. I often disagreed with Krauthammer, but in the last couple of years, since "Judge" Nap got his reassignment by the Murdoch boys to be a lefty, and he seems to happily agreed, I have not agreed with him at all.

The G-7 rules require that the host country pay all the expenses establish and operate the G-7 conference. In the USA that means that the American taxpayer is supposed to pay. Chances are after all the DC smoke clears, and after the Democrats and talking heads like Napolitiano are made to look stupid, we are going to find out that Trump intends to donate his property in question to host the G-7 conference to the USA Government at zero expense to the American taxpayers, with all receipts and profits being sent to the US Treasury. That’s the way Trump operates, evidenced by the fact that since being elected he has donated his entire Presidential salary to various good causes through the US Treasury.
Napolitano is a jerk for allowing the media to sucker him into making his stupid comments.

Doing it at cost and saving the taxpayer half of what it would normally cost. Yes that is a problem....oh wait. Hey Judge take your emoluments and use they for a massage. I am so sick of these never Trumpers and their garbage. What does Trump have to gain? As Mulvaney said it is not as if his name and brand aren't the most well known in the world. It's not as if he takes a salary, it is not as if he is going to make a dime on this, so what exactly does he gain, except to show that he was a builder that knew how to do things right , and he is a President who does everything even better than the rest.

Something I think would be funny would be if Trump either (quietly) personally pays for the costs himself or has the business pays for it (doesn't charge anything). Don't say anything about it until the event itself (or afterwards), let the media scream bloody murder and try to call this a crime, then show the what actually happened (along with the dates when things happened). Wonder what the results would be....
Would the media admit they jumped the gun? (choke, chortle, belly laugh)
Or would they try to reframe the entire thing to fit their narrative? Where they come up with a different "crime" for covering the costs and not getting any revenue from the event...
Either way, it would be yet another exposure of open bias and hatred which any reasonable person could see regardless of Nap's and other media spin.

Since PDT has stated that the resort will be hosting it “at cost”, he will not be making a penny off of it and will actually be saving taxpayers a boatload of money. Choke on that, Nap.

I agree with #14 projection that Trump is going to announce that he will host the meeting without charging the govt.for it.
