I probably would have done the same thing! A clever office worker, though, in Ankara will retrieve and hang onto it. It will be a paper of tremendous historic significance. If you read David Halberstam's book "Teammates" about Ted Williams, Johnny Pesky, Bobby Dorr and Dom Dimaggio on the Red Sox, you might recall that Williams received a note from Ty Cobb, who wanted to give Ted tips on playing the left field wall at Fenway. Williams crumpled it up and threw it away. Bobby Dorr always regretted not saving it.

If Erdogan threw the letter with Trump’s signature in the trash he really is a dummy, as in decades ahead papers bearing Trump’s signature are bound to be worth a lot of money just as papers signed by previous Presidents. Erdogan should have given it to his granddaughter instead.

What is an impeachable offense? Rep. Maxine Waters, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, says the definition is purely political: “whatever Congress says it is—there is no law.” She’s wrong. At the Constitutional Convention of 1787, the Framers debated impeachment of a president. Some argued for the power of Congress to remove the president for “maladministration” or other open-ended terms that appeared in several state constitutions. Others, including James Madison, opposed such vague criteria, fearful that they would turn the republic into a British-style parliamentary system, in which Congress could remove a president over political differences—effectively a vote of no confidence.

The Washington Examiner has established that he is a career CIA analyst who was detailed to the National Security Council at the White House and has since left. On Sept. 26, the New York Times reported that he was a CIA officer. On Oct. 4, the newspaper added that he "was detailed to the National Security Council at one point."

Sweden's king has removed five of his grandchildren from the royal house. The decision by King Carl XVI Gustaf means the children no longer have the title of royal highness and are not expected to perform official royal duties. They will remain members of the royal family and retain their titles of dukes and duchesses. The change has not affected the king's two grandchildren who are in direct line to the throne. Observers say the move reflects a wider view that there is no need to pay so many members of the royal family for official duties.

President Trump faced criticism on social media and from journalists after claiming the United States has a "shared political and cultural history" with Italy because of ancient Rome. During a press conference with Italian President Sergio Mattarella, Trump noted that Italy and the U.S. are bound together through shared ties to the ancient city, saying, "The United States and Italy are bound together by a shared cultural and political heritage dating back thousands of years to ancient Rome." The Founding Fathers of the U.S. had a well-documented affinity for the Roman republic, evidence of which is prevalent in American representative government and civic architecture.
