Is Mitt Romney Weighing A
Primary Challenge To Trump?

Original Article

Posted By: DanvilleBill, 10/6/2019 5:49:09 PM

Mitt Romney could turn out to be the 2020 version of Evan McMullin. Last week some signals were sent that may indicate Romney is considering it. Remember Evan McMullin? He’s the former CIA officer who ran as a third-party candidate in 2016. He claimed to be a conservative alternative to Donald Trump. He failed miserably and even placed third in total votes in his own state of Utah.

Comments:

To my eternal shame and disgust, I was a delegate for Romney in 2012. I donated money to his campaign, spoke in his behalf, and donated many hours to his cause. What a betrayal. What a dope I was.

Of course he is. He is more subtle but like Hitlery, he thinks he's entitled to the Presidency. What he doesn't realize is that he had his chance, and he blew it. Elephants don't forget.

His church is already berating Utah's Mormons to vote 3rd party this time around. To be a spoiler denying Trump Utah's few electoral votes. To their credit, Utah's Mormons don't listen to their elders. Last time McMullen only came in a faded 3rd. sometimes, when I listen to all my disgruntled Mormon neighbors (especially the women) I think they love places like the polling booth. It's one of the few spots where they aren't spied on. Where they have a bit of freedom to choose.

Mitt Romney is tentative, timid and tame and does indeed 'tippy-toe' around his political opponents (afraid to offend them) - as he did when he ran and lost against Obama. But he's Mr. Tough Guy when it comes to Trump. He must want Trump's job. He's a sore loser - and insufferably transparent. Get over yourself, Mitt.

This is just a shock...ask Bill Weld if he saw it coming. This is one in a series of planted stories to float the idea, and give Mitt the ability to go "Aw, shucks, no." Everyone loves a reluctant warrior. Will he run? He will if PDT's approval ratings fall significantly. If they drop to 40 percent or less, Mitt will find himself "drafted" to make a late-primary announcment, not unlike Bobby Kennedy in '68. He may not win the nomination, but he will get convention TV time...and the media a "GOP Split" headline. The added fact is that Presidents challenged in the primaries tend not to do well in November. LBJ dropped out in '68. Jerry Ford lost in '76. Bush41 lost in '90. Look, Mitt has nothing to lose. His seat is his until '24. Utah's powers won't desert him - they're likely pushing. McConnell knows the score, too. It's a possible kamikaze mission where the pilot survives the crash and explosions.

The Chinese communist government increasingly poses an existential threat not just to its own 1.4 billion citizens but to the world at large. China is currently in a dangerously chaotic state. And why not, when a premodern authoritarian society leaps wildly into the brave new world of high-tech science in a single generation? The Chinese technological revolution is overseen by an Orwellian dictatorship. Predictably, the Chinese Communist Party has not developed the social, political or cultural infrastructure to ensure that its sophisticated industrial and biological research does not go rogue and become destructive to itself and to the billions of people who are on the importing end of Chinese products and protocols.

For years, Mitt Romney had a reputation as a flip-flopper, an opportunist, a politician who would tailor his beliefs to fit whichever group he was trying to please. Running for office in deep-blue Massachusetts in 1994 and 2002, he pronounced himself strongly pro-choice. Running for the Republican presidential nomination in pro-life Iowa and South Carolina, he became just as strongly pro-life. As governor of Massachusetts, he produced a universal healthcare program that prefigured Obamacare. Appealing to GOP voters deeply opposed to Obama, Romney renounced his signature accomplishment.

From early in our nation’s history, America’s intellectuals have mostly looked down on their own country and yearned for it to be like someplace else–someplace more sophisticated, and more in tune with “modern” intellectual currents, whatever they might be at the moment. That is a long history, which I will skip over. In our own time, American intellectuals have claimed that Soviet Russia, Germany and Japan were harbingers of the future that the U.S. needed to imitate. In each case, the point was that we had to shed our archaic freedoms and enter the brave new world of central planning under the control–benign, of course!–of intellectuals and bureaucrats.

1975 was an exciting time to be at Boston University’s School of Public Communication. There we were, about 30 students seeking a Master’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism. All of us thought our quest was noble, that we would become purveyors of truth, skilled fact-finders and truth-tellers in the Watergate tradition. The lessons presented were well worth the tens of thousands of dollars I had to pay for them. Forty-five years later, having reached the top of my profession, I generally despise my own industry, something I never could have predicted. Here’s why.

I’m probably second to none in my dislike for Meghan Markle. There’s something unattractive about a mature woman marrying into the British Royal family with one of the world’s most expensive weddings, hanging out with the Queen, living in insane luxury…and then whining non-stop about the horror of her life. There’s something even less appealing when that woman accuses the Royal family of race hatred. And the problem is that, when it comes to that left-wing diva, Meghan Markle, it’s hard to believe most of what she says. After weeks of hype, CBS finally televised Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah.
