San Francisco residents use rocks to
block homeless camping

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A group of San Francisco neighbors said they had to do something to make their street safe. Their answer? Some giant rocks. Fed up with what they see as the city’s failure to combat homelessness and rampant drug use, the neighbors had boulders delivered to their sidewalk to block people from pitching tents on their street. That started a fight that shows the frustration with an unprecedented homelessness crisis in California. Cities are struggling to address the lack of affordable housing and a growing number of homeless encampments that are popping up on city streets, sometimes in neighborhoods.

Hmmm. I think sending in 50 dudes in Hazmat suits to disperse these bums with fire hoses would have been more effective.

This is why you have guns, and local government. The gun keeps you and yours safe while the local government executes your will and makes the undesirables leave. I doubt the homeless and druggies have permits to pitch their tents. I also bet THEY have guns

According to Team Trump, Nancy Pelosi was greeted by at least 300 Trump supporters while attending a fundraiser at the Greenville, South Carolina Hyatt Regency on Friday. The Speaker was confronted by a sea of MAGA caps, “Impeach Pelosi” signs, and at least one woman draped in a “Women for Trump” banner and wearing a Pelosi mask. (A degrading task, but somebody had to do it.) This is unusual for Republicans, who have traditionally maintained a live and let live policy toward the Democrats no matter what the circumstances.

It's always useful to know what a campaign is like, the lay of the land, so to speak, the supporters, the campaign operation, the candidate herself. Here in San Diego, Elizabeth Warren paid a visit Thursday, so I went, taking my elderly mother, blending into the crowd to learn how things looked from the Democrat side. The most obvious takeaway is that Warren is rising. Based on her own energetic appearance and stump speech, she's now begun campaigning as if she's got the Democratic nomination in the bag, and she's now attempting to move to the center. That signals a swift campaign response to the de facto collapses of her

The most surprising thing about the latest unemployment report isn’t that the rate dropped to the lowest level since December 1969. It’s that unemployment wasn’t supposed to get anywhere near that low under President Trump. At least, not if you believed mainstream Keynesian economists. The economy created 136,000 jobs in September, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics survey of businesses. The separate household survey, which is used to track unemployment, showed that the number of unemployed dropped by 275,000. Not only did the job market pull 275,000 off the unemployment line last month, it pulled more than 100,000 who had dropped out of the labor force

It’s becoming clearer that Nancy Pelosi’s half-clever ploy of unilaterally declaring that an impeachment “inquiry” was in progress is backfiring in a big way. At first, it seemed that this was a smart move – by simply stating an inquiry was in motion without going through the necessary formalities such as a full House vote, Pelosi was calming the crazies of her caucus (such as the Squad), while leaving herself plenty of maneuvering room to divert or back out should things start to deteriorate.

The press is having a field day with some supposedly damning text messages surrounding the Trump administration's dealings with military aid to Ukraine and the need to get to the bottom of how the 2016 Russian collusion hoax happened. Here's National Review's rundown: The chairs of the House Committees released a document late Thursday night containing text messages that “reflect serious concerns raised by a State Department official about the detrimental effects of withholding crucial military assistance from Ukraine, and the importance of setting up a meeting between President Trump and the Ukrainian President without further delay.” The texts come after a closed-door briefing with former

Remember when intelligence leaker Ed Snowden's gentlest critics said that he should have taken his complaints of intelligence abuses through established internal channels instead of steal thousands of documents of top secret intelligence files and then leak them to the press? That 'mistake' - and I don't think it was one -- is what drove him to seek refuge in the old Soviet Union just a few years ago? Remember when the same was said of then-Private Bradley Manning, who leaked troves of military secrets to Wikileaks before being packed off to Leavenworth? He should have gone through channels... Within hours of suffering chest pains Tuesday night, Bernie Sanders had stents inserted to relieve the blockage in an artery. He’s lucky. Because if Sanders lived under “Medicare for All,” things likely would not have gone as well. Sanders, along with every other Democrat pushing “Medicare for All” and its variants, constantly bleat about how the U.S. spends far more on health care but gets worse results than countries such as Canada or the U.K. But the quality measures – infant mortality and longevity – are notoriously unreliable for international comparisons. Infant mortality rates depend on how countries measure them, and longevity has more to do with things like

TALLAHASSEE — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and South Florida Democrats plan to meet with Venezuelan exiles this week amid an ongoing stalemate in Congress over whether or not to offer protections to those who fled the South American country. Democrats have scheduled a forum on Thursday in Weston, a town that has seen an influx of Venezuelans fleeing their country during an economic collapse that began under former President Hugo Chávez and has continued under President Nicolás Maduro.

The content of the Ukraine phone call, as unseemly as it may be for President Donald Trump, will not be the basis of impeachment, the way Bill Clinton’s “perjurious, false and misleading testimony to the grand jury” was. Which is why House Democrats are utilizing it as pretext to fish the whole expanse of the vast waters of presidential diplomatic communications with foreign leaders. A few breaths after grousing that Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani “seems to think I’m judge and jury here,” House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, the California Democrat, almost comically delivered the verdict, telling ABC News on Sunday that “what we have seen already is damning” and falsely

How did this get to be standard practice? The whistle-blower scandal that has prompted the fourth presidential impeachment process in American history has put a spectacle from earlier this decade back on display: the jaw-smacking feast of scavengers who circled around Ukraine as Viktor Yanukovych, a Moscow-linked kleptocrat, was driven from power. Ukraine’s crisis was the latest to energize a club whose culture has come to be treated as normal—a culture in which top-tier lawyers, former U.S. public officials, and policy experts (and their progeny) cash in by trading on their connections and their access to insider policy information—usually by providing services to kleptocrats like Yanukovych.

And now it turns out half the ones who haven't fled are thinking about it. Just over half of California’s registered vote have considered leaving the state, with soaring housing costs cited as the most common reason for wanting to move, according to a new poll.

A second intelligence official is reportedly weighing blowing the whistle on President Trump's communications with Ukraine. The New York Times reported Friday that two people briefed on the matter indicated the official is considering whether to file his own whistleblower complaint and testify before Congress. The official is said to have more direct information on the president's July phone call with the leader of Ukraine than the first whistleblower, whose complaint alleged that Trump used his power as president to urge Ukraine to probe former Vice President Joe Biden, his political rival.

CLOVIS, Calif. — Trevor Meyer had been nominated previously for the homecoming court. As a prince. But what Meyer really longed for was to win homecoming queen. Meyer, who identifies as “gender neutral,” had that wish granted when Clovis East High crowned the slender, 5-foot-10 senior as homecoming queen Friday night during halftime of the Timberwolves’ football game against Clovis High. Meyer’s coronation didn’t seem like much of a shocker based on the other finalists’ reaction and the loud round of cheers at Lamonica Stadium. When the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last month that Minnesota could not force wedding videographers Carl and Angel Larsen to create videos that violate their religious beliefs, the Larsens thought their three-year court battle was over. But it appears it’s just beginning. Minnesota’s attorney general, Keith Ellison, vowed to fight the court’s decision and squash discriminatory speech in all its forms. In an op-ed for the Minnesota Star Tribune this week, Ellison accused the Larsens of hiding behind their religious beliefs in an attempt to get away with LGBT discrimination.
