‘L’etat, c’est moi,” the Sun King is supposed to have said, “I am the state.” Louis XIV was one of the architects of modern dictatorship, and President Donald Trump likes more about his style than merely his taste in armchairs. President Trump, in a fashion unbecoming the chief administrative officer of a republic — which is all he is — habitually confuses himself and the state.
One example among many: President Trump, asked whether his trade war might hurt his standing among U.S. farmers, who are paying the price for it, answered: “They can’t be too upset, because I gave them $12 billion, and I gave them $16 billion this year.”

I'd say it's remarkable that he seems to have come up with a "coherent policy agenda" by just trying to fulfill his campaign promises. He has accomplished more for the conservative cause than anyone I can remember who had a "coherent policy agenda." In fact, I'm very tired of the typical candidates that express their "coherent policy agenda" during the campaign, and then seem to completely forget about that agenda once elected.

No way I will take the bait and go for that last paragraph. Kevin has never said anything that interested me. He seems to carry a lot of baggage of his own…
There is no confusion in our minds about who brought about the changes that have improved our country. He saw needs. He promised to fix the problems, fulfill those needs. He is working to keep his promises. And all with zero support from the Dems and many RINO Uniparty members.
Kevin also apparently missed the parts when President Trump says that any other president could have done these things - but, for whatever reason, they didn’t. That is the truth.

Williamson can go back to his oatmeal. Our president is perfectly aware that the people will vote him in or out of office in a matter of months.

Like Louis XIV, Trump is competent and gets things done. Williamson is an idiot, and so are the bulk of the commentators over there. I read the comments and could not believe the level of ignorance about economics, the Constitution, and world affairs. I used to read National Review but gave up on it years ago because this crowd is the loser wing of the Republican Party that includes Mittens Romney and Pussy Bush

I certainly agree with the first three points of the last paragraph.
What Williamson can’t grasp, apparently, is that the first three points have necessitated Trump’s actions and behavior. He is not confused about the legalities; he just knows that he cannot communicate effectively and maintain a strictly legal structure in his communications. And he knows that this battle will be won or lost on successful communication.
Assuming williamson is honest, he is like the man who longs for cold weather but doesn’t want to have to wear a coat.
Yes, all out communications war is ugly. Man up, williamson.
And when Trump is gone will republicans like williamson usher in some equivalent of the first three points?

Kevin needs to read a real thinker/writer, Conrad Black.
According to this view, the Bushes allowed the Republican Party to be shamed and jostled into insane notions of self-impoverishment over completely speculative notions of climate management, and Obama was allowed to get away with a defeatist and corrupt economic policy that provided slightly more survivable welfare arrangements and a flat-lined “new normal” of 2 percent economic growth despite immense deficits and a shrinking workforce, though the Obamas’ rich chums on Wall Street, in Hollywood, and in the Silicon Valley were well taken care of fiscally.
And all four previous presidents are accused of pursuing trade policies that imported unemployment into the United States and doing nothing while up to 20 million illiterate peasants poured into the country illegally or while oil imports increased and the manufacturing sector was farmed out to other countries by companies that repatriated unemployment but not profits.
It is a powerful indictment of bipartisan policy and while sometimes overstated, as often happens in politics, it cannot easily be refuted. Instead, the president’s opponents in both parties have described him as a boorish mythmaker, a crook, and a pathologically dishonest egomaniac who is tarnishing the whole constitutional process by abuses of office.
If you want a really good read, head for this Conrad Black essay which was unfortunately buried in a flurry of posts early yesterday.

Re #12, for those who aren’t clear on Black’s position, he is a supporter of President Trump who wrote his own book on our President. What I have quoted is contrasting material Black gave in this essay lest the readers had forgotten who made the messes President Trump has nearly singlehandedly (except for some great cabinet members and a few supportive congresspersons) been trying to clean up.

In addition to the great things this patriotic President is doing for people, his presidency is exposing the nastiness and illegal activity of the previous administration, including the DOJ, FBI and the deep state. And, as a bonus, seeing the left media also exposing their dishonesty by supporting and protecting all the bad actors, losing their credibility forever. The final act of the falling left will be trying to impeach because his hairdo makes him unfit to be President!

"Williamson last paragraph speaks truth" . Can't wait for President Trump to be gone????? Williamson is another flaccid scribe without any base. Donald John Trump is THE most investigated person ever to run for office. Donald John Trump is THE most maligned, lied about,debased person to ever run for office. Yet not one scintilla of evidence has come forth to stop him.

Kevin wouldn't know truth if it attached itself to his lying tush OP. He still hates flyover country and the fact that we voted ourselves the most successful president in most of our lifetimes. And we will vote for him again next year. Proudly and gladly. Kevin is still a big part of what is wrong with NRO. All those who hate Trump, hate his successes. They hate that he has done more for minorities in just a couple years than Obama even tried to do in his entire LIFE, including the WH.
Trump communicates just fine, in a way that voters completely understand and relate to. What Kevin forgets is he was mentored by one of the greatest legal minds who ever lived, Roy Cohn. Trump doesn't have a legal degree sure, but he has forgotten more about the law and working within it than fools like Kevin will ever understand or grasp. Congress is filled with lawyers who deliberately cloud the air, Trump clears it. Deal with it Kevin and back to the kiddie table.

I liked 1's comment. I am the state, mr. williamson says here. Your French leaves much to be desired. One wonders just what it is you're trying to say with "I am the state". Mr. Trump is President. By your article it's clear you don't like him. I do not agree with you,
and he will be re-elected in 2020. Please take a French course. I am a French woman.

"The Trump Derangement Syndrome is Strong in This One"
National Review may have been decent, MANY years ago, but they are a waste of time to read, now.

For those of you who cannot slog thru the whole article FTA:
1) I am glad that Hillary Rodham Clinton is not the president;
2) Based on what we know right now, I do not want to see Donald Trump impeached and removed from office;
3) I do not want to see Elizabeth Warren being sworn in as president in January 2021;
4) Donald Trump cannot be gone soon enough."
You see these people are just plain crazy. If he does not want for president Hillary or Warren but especially not Trump - who then? He lives in an imaginary world.
