President Trump made a whirlwind tour through San Diego, exuding optimism, vim and vigor. He was in full command at his press conference at the border wall, and the local press coverage, at least as seen on television, was strikingly positive. I watched the live coverage on the local stations here in San Diego. They just let him talk - a fairly long version is here and a shortened shareable form is here: A local Fox News affiliate has a great second segment: ABC's KGTV local affiliate's television coverage, including the post-visit analysis, was even better,

Comments:

Even the press coverage was pretty positive.

Showalter's absolutely cheerful piece reminded me of when all of our towns were Red, White and Blue, with stars spangling around us. The tune playing in my mind as I read it and viewed all the information THAT IS NOT AVAILABLE on-line? Rah Rah Rumble Seats and Running Boards (those were the good old days)!

Excellent report, great news, Trump as the project manager - yep, I have been in that role on a number of research projects, and had to show up in a suit and give a little speech about the project. WAY smaller stuff, no question, but I recognize the situation. I LOVED the "Trump 2020" banner in one of the lower photos.....but somehow, I am guessing that that bottom line won't be on most of the yard signs. "No more Bullsh*t" is great.....but a bit over the top for many folks. MAGA, in spite of all the Dems.

Thanks to Pres. Trump for featuring the excellent work done by the Border Patrol at this event! Each BP Agent swears a personal oath to perform the duty to protect the USA by enforcing Immigration Law and they have fulfilled this service to America throughout the BP's proud heritage with, ''Honor First,'' as their motto. After intense training in Immigration Law, enforcement of that law and physical exercise, they serve along the often remote areas of our country with dedication to their duty. For some time, past dem Presidents in response to the dem party activists seem to be targeting this honorable agency, with a proud tradition of service since it's inception, for extinction by lowering the bar of background checks of new recruits and lowering the traditional intense & demanding training of new recruits, while at the same time, the dem pols have enabled the current flood of illegal aliens along our borders. The demands required of the BP now are certainly not in their job description, but they have responded to the demands with compassion and innovations as the stressful emergency has required. Yet the dem pols & their activists never stop targeting the BP for scorn. ...So again, thanks to Pres. Trump for valuing the many services now required of the Border Patrol and for expressing appreciation for their dedicated service to this country along the borders!!!

Elizabeth Warren promises that if elected, the first thing she will do as president is push through a “sweeping” anti-corruption plan that will “take power away from the wealthy and the well-connected in Washington and put it back where it belongs — in the hands of the people.” Where have we heard such promises before? Oh, right, from pretty much every candidate running for president. Barack Obama said in 2008 that if he were elected, he would “launch the most sweeping ethics reform in U.S. history. We will make government more open, more accountable and more responsive to the problems of the American people.” Bill Clinton in 1992 promised to

We live in seemingly divisive times. Politicians are at each other’s throats. Talking heads on the network news explain to us all the reasons we should hate and mistrust each other. Confidence in public institutions is at an all-time low. There seems to be nothing but bad news. Then we notice an oft-neglected holiday on our calendars: Constitution Day. This federal holiday commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787. And as we all learned in high school civics class, the Constitution defines the structure of our federal government. It is the most remarkable political charters in history. This may not mean much

Kamala Harris has always been known for her lean and hungry, pushy, grabby, ambition, which includes a willingness to sleep her way to the top to get what she wants. Her political start began as a social mountaineer with San Francisco's old-money Pacific Heights set dating from her 20s and then just moved onward and upward. That's not sitting well with California's lizardy old-money senior Senator, Dianne Feinstein, who knows that establishment well. And so, she's taking some action, as Fox News reports: According to reports, Feinstein, the senior senator from the Golden State, will throw a fundraiser next month

Illinois clearly is the pioneer in the not-yet-existent deceased rights movement, which I have heard is having trouble with turnout for its rallies. But if the dead ever do rise from their graves in a zombie apocalypse, as so often dramatized on cable television, they will no doubt demand that other states follow the lead of Illinois. They're not dead, they're a constituency: Illinois Policy reveals that the state has spent $4.6 million on Medicaid for dead people:

Here's something we can agree with the Democratic Party base on: Presidential candidate Julian Castro is loathesome. According to Nate Silver's outfit, Five Thirty Eight, Castro was the big loser of the third Democratic debate, based on his sneakily age-ist and downright dishonest attack on Joe Biden. Castro lost big points on favorability and the willingness of even left-wing voters to vote for him, according to Five Thirty Eight: So after Ipsos polled voters before and after the debate, we calculated the change in candidates’ net favorability (favorable rating minus unfavorable rating).

Democratic debates are always contests to determine which candidate is the most contemptible. Based on his dishonest behavior in debate three, you could argue that Julian Castro, way down at the bottom end of the debate stage, took that 'honor.' According to an excellent, level-headed analysis by Aaron Blake in the Washington Post: The former Housing and Urban Development secretary clearly came ready to go at this debate, and he went hard at Biden. But his biggest optical win didn’t have substance to back it up. He accused Biden of saying his plan would not automatically enroll people in his public health care option. When Biden denied it, Castro was apoplectic.

From the first minute of last night’s truly intolerable Democratic debate, a candidate for the world’s most powerful office started things rolling downhill with a startling assertion about last month’s horrific shootings in El Paso: “22 people were killed, dozens more grievously injured by a man … inspired to kill by our president.” (Emphasis added) Later in the same debate, a sitting U.S. Senator from the nation’s largest state added the following over-the-top observation about these vile murders: “People asked me … ‘do you think Trump is responsible for what happened?’ And I said, ‘Well, look, I mean, obviously, he didn’t pull the trigger. But he’s certainly been tweeting out the ammunition.’”

Most Americans aren't in for holding people responsible for the misdeeds of their ancestors, but Elizabeth Warren is just a little different. Here's the latest on her getting-famous ancestors from Breitbart News: Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) great-great-great grandfather Jonathan Crawford served in Major William Lauderdale’s Battalion of Tennessee Volunteer Militia from November 1837 to May 1838, a six month time period during which it fought two battles in Florida against the Seminoles. What it takes to survive for long in the Trump White House would fill a tome that may command a seven-figure advance for whoever ends up being qualified to write it. But whatever now-ex National Security Adviser John Bolton ends up writing might solve an even more perplexing mystery: What is really at the heart of this president’s foreign policy? It cannot be denied that Donald Trump is a hawk, despite his rhetoric sometimes indicating otherwise. He backed large increases in Pentagon spending during his first two years and this year focused on out-maneuvering the Democrats’ majority in the House on federal budget caps to get another increase for fiscal 2020,

A couple weeks ago, a medical fellow at Emory University posted a tweet after three patients came in with Groupon coupons for chest CT scans. In the space of one Twitter post, she goes from shock that anyone would use a coupon for a medical test, to realizing the patients got a really good deal, and that the cost was likely less than it would have been had they used insurance. Then she concludes by saying, “US healthcare is bonkers.” Bonkers is right. But not for the reason Dr. Nicole Herbst probably thinks. What’s bonkers about the nation’s health care system isn’t that some people are using coupons for medical tests.
