After the deadly Feb. 14, 2018, mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., national media focused largely on a handful of student activists, leaving it to victims’ parents to unravel why the slaughter happened. Andrew Pollack, whose daughter, Meadow, was one of the 17 killed, conducted his own investigation to uncover the roots of what he calls the most avoidable mass murder in American history. He and Max Eden are co-authors of “Why Meadow Died: The People and Policies that Created the Parkland Shooter and Endanger America’s Students.” This adapted excerpt, based on never-before-released educational records of the shooter, Nikolas Cruz, shows the Broward County

If I remember correctly, there were several factors that contributed to this disaster. Obama had implemented some program that would stop the school to jail that was so prevalent among minorities. The FBI had been notified of Cruz’s intentions, but the supervisor of the person that took the call at the FBI told her not to bother following up. Am I not remembering correctly that the government was in this up to their eyeballs?

America seems to have sacrificed the civil rights and lives of those killed to enable such perps to kill. And then, rather than place blame where it lies, accuses lax gun laws with having enabled the perp.
I honestly cannot comprehend such logic.

This was a truly chilling account of malfeasance on the part of those responsible for Nicolas Cruz well being. Literally the ONLY thing that would get him out of school and into a program that would actually help him would be if he SHOT OTHERS AT SCHOOL. He did everything but that-he had red flags, sirens, etc., all around him but liberal policies either prevented his removal from that environment or people just didn't care. BTW, liberals really DON'T care. Their kids go to private institutions, to hell with public schools.

I agree w/OP. Whoever wrote that letter to Cruz's shrink, certainly had no business in a school. That person cannot write worth a darn.
Cruz obviously was a crime waiting to happen and gave off signals constantly to alarm those that should have taken action. Nobody wants to be the bad guy. They actually gave him "cool down passes".

Wow. I was aware that the school knew that Cruz was a psycho but I cannot believe how they ignored all these danger signs. I guess that this is the state of education in the US now.

Sorry but I can't help but think that his mental state was not only noticed but used to advance the "greater good" by people playing God.

The bigger picture: deranged, uncivilized leftist/progressive minorities accepted as sane to the on-going systematic destruction of civilized society.

Just think of the time and energy spent on this student. Teachers spend so much time having to prepare special lessons, do paperwork, protect themselves and others it's no wonder the rest of the class doesn't do well.

What an incredible indictment of today's education system. The only way to turn this type of tolerant thinking around is to sue for malfeasance everyone in the school system who had a discipline issue with Cruz. When 30 or 40 teachers and administrators have to pay thousands each to the victims families things will change. This is another classic case of liberals and scared administrators turning the other cheek and failing to take action for fear of offending someone or some group. PATHETIC

As the author says, this was a very preventable mass shooting. Cruze could not have announced his intentions any more strongly if he'd had a flashing red light on his head. The administrators didn't pull the trigger, but they were in a position to stop it.
Maybe the letter the school wrote to Cruz's shrink (near the bottom) gives a clue. Was that written by an educator?
