Tell that to California where the car is still king. You simply can not get around there with a car and even when you have one you can't get there fast because of traffic. Maybe this gaffe will help wake up some voters there and give President Trump additional electoral votes for the 2020 landslide.

Americans were born on wheels, but not train wheels. We don't have a train culture. Henry Ford changed all that for good. When leftists start telling you what can change, you'd better start locking away what they want to remove. Quite simply, Democrats are evil.

Will never happen! Millions of people choose to live in the Suburbs. They would need a car to get to the High Speed Rail. It might work for people living in the Inner City, but when you're in a Country Subdivision, you need a CAR! And, we ALL know that people like Joe and his friends will never give up their private cars and Planes! Climate change rules are only for the "Little People"! I'm pretty sure the High Speed Rail doesn't go to The Hamptons!

For liberals, a lack of people using charging stations means you need to build thousands more.

And for those that do live in the suburbs the government will build high rise apartments No more suburbs. No cars. Bikes. No suburbs. High rise government built high rise apartments. It’s called Agenda 21. Check it out. It’s already started. Have you had bike lanes painted on your streets. Cars now share the road with bikes. Which is so very dangerous. Tax meat high fuel costs. Check out Agenda 21. It will curl your hair. Oh and this all for us peons. Not for our precious elite

And Yang stated something about ending all commercial air travel. And Fauxcahauntas wants to run the whole.country on windmills and solar panels.
Now, we all know "our betters" will still be able to drive their big luxury cars and fly in their jets and set the thermostats of the 10000 sq ft houses at 70 in the summer.... it's only us peon serfs that habe to make sacrifices.

Biden apparently does not know that electric cars run on coal. Well, electricity runs on coal. Well, power plants are fired by coal. Has anyone invented an airplane that runs on solar or wind? But I digress.

He's been talking about high speed rail for the last twenty-five years. Dems are great about "talking about" stuff and not acting. Why, Joe, didn't you and the messiah start to build high speed rail during your eight year siege on America? Biden's case of diarrhea of the mouth rates a 10 on a 1-10 scale. Blah, blah, blah.

A couple of Joe's thoughts are semi-coherent but then he digresses into fantasyland. Trains would be good is some limited places but - they would have to be made safe from criminals, accidents, labor unions, undesireable passengers and have stops in convenient places. A workers' strike would paralize an entire city. As for Amtrak, it is just not practical for long trips since it costs at least four times as much as a plane ticket and takes many times longer to get there. If you are a Senator and only have to be at work for several hours a day it might work. Taking trains around cities is taking your life into your hands. All of the cameras in the world will not prevent them from being overrun by the homeless, vagrants and muggers.
Electric cars are novelties. The cheapest Tesla is not nearly as practical as a Honda Accord. The batteries are very dangerous in an accident. If you can't make a one way trip without having to sit at a charging station you are not going to buy into the fad. If you live anywhere outside a beehive city it's simply out of the boundaries of reality and Amazon can't deliver everything. How would they deliver it? Bottom line, it's a free country and we will drive what we like.

Amtrak is almost 50 years old and hasn't made a dime. It's subsidized to keep the Boston-DC trains running.
Yet Biden says: "This is something I spent the bulk of my career on, trying to save Amtrak and a few other little things like transportation.

Couple of years ago the wife and I took a trip out to Monument Valley...while traversing the 'plains', we stopped overnight at a motel in Missouri...I looked out our window which was on the back side and lo and behold there were about 5 or 6 'charging stations' for electric cars...no one was charging though...

If high speed rail was popular and profitable, private companies would be created overnite, and investors would be clamoring to purchase stock to finance construction.

I wish all these "environmental advocates" who want to take away our> cars, AC, heated houses, and numerous other modern conveniences powered by "fossil fuels" would lead by example and voluntarily give theirs up first. Perhaps then we might pay attention.

#19 beat me to my similar thoughts.
And, the US gov't, along with every state and county gov't can start by installing solar panels on every building, and every parking lot. They could start by purchasing electric vehicles for all city, county, state and Federal department and agency too, buy haven't.
Heck, the U.S. Post office is a prime opportunity for short-distance mail vehicles that should all be electric, but aren't, even the new vehicles they are purchasing right now aren't.
Maybe Biden needs to stop leading from behind, and start leading by example.

You know what will happen if they get a high speed rail system? The same thing that happens with all such systems. Funds intended for maintenance and upgrades will be siphoned off into secret bank accounts and will be used for other pet projects and for feeding all of the hungry little welfare mouths. Important maintenance will be kicked down the road to the point that track conditions will degrade to the point where you won't be able to exceed 30 or 40 MPH without risk and all of the money will have been wasted.

What you would have would be modern day serfdom where people would be tied to the place they live because they would have no means to travel.
The CNN town hall on climate change has shown everyone just how dangerous these people are. Two candidates indirectly said they would murder people to save the planet, and a third would reduce the majority of the population to the role of peasant.
What is scary is how many people in the Climate Change movement would support this.

Democrats had almost 50 years of continual control of our purse strings, yet they refused to fix anything with regards to the nation's infrastructure. Remember how they mocked Bush because he wanted to strengthen the power grid of the nation? They mocked him for wanting to upgrade what they consider not broken. They are against anything that takes funding away from their pet projects and social programs. So if the terrorists successfully shut down our power grid for awhile, thank the evil democrat party for it. This will be all on them.
There is no way that he or anyone could take millions of cars off the highways in this nation. Since democrats refuse to fix the rail system, or even add to it, there is no mass transportation readily available to move the people without cars. But then that is probably the point, right?
