San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors just adopted a resolution recommending that felons not be called felons but rather “formerly incarcerated person” or former “justice-involved” person or “returning resident” — or any other number of soft and fuzzy names that won’t hurt the feelings of the, umm, felons.
File this under Ridiculous.
“We don’t want people to be forever labeled for the worst things that they have done,” Supervisor Matt Haney said to the San Francisco Chronicle. “We want them ultimately to become contributing citizens, and referring to them as felons is like a scarlet letter that they can never get away from.”
OK.
First off, Haney does have a point.

I can't even imagine how many Tourists have decided to skip San Francisco. That would include me. I've never been there and have looked at a couple cruises that to out of there. I thought it would be fun to spend a few days there before boarding. HA! No way would I actually do that now. Why spend money only to find out I have to dodge human waste on the sidewalks or be bothered by panhandlers while trying to ship. Forget it! There are lots of other places I have never been, I will explore them!

My goodness, the author mentioned the “S” word! Shame...that noble concept that for centuries has been an incentive to keep people from wrongdoing. Now, it is shunned because it may hurt someone’s feelings. When you do bad things, you are labeled by society for a reason and that is to convince others that taking your path is not the best option. Many people learn from this, but some never will. To say this new labeling is naive and reckless is an understatement. What will these democrats do when law and order breaks down and its each man for his own? They will neither take responsibility of dumbing down legal definitions or the results thereof. Like every democrat policy, they all lead to chaos and abject failure.

But wouldn't the victims of crime also be called justice-involved?

My poor City by the Bay! Not trouble enough, so the Democratic Party showed up there. What was that you stepped in? Another democrat.

But it is perfectly okay for the city government to refer to me as a racist, homophobe, islamaphobe, white radical extremist, and deplorable for not wanting to pay for the college education of illegal aliens.

It's censorship. It's an attack on the 1st amendment ....freedom of speech. We have been nudged toward this for decades. From crippled to handicapped to physically challenged Retarded to mentally handicapped to special needs. Gasp. After awhile you self censor. You think " I can't say that" and you revise . The things that make up our lives have been re labeled , renamed reclassified. Feelings, we are told we can't hurt anyone's feelings. We cant call a her that thinks its a him a she. In other words ( words, evil nasty words), we can't tell the truth. Politicians never do but most people are not politicians.

Heard in a grocery store in suburban New Orleans. “ Mom you really can’t be a Louisianan unless you have a felon in the family “ statistically he is right.

Shame is pretty serious stuff which should only be applied for the most heinous transgression of all; being a conservative constitutional American patriot.

A felon is a felon. So if someone in SanFran refers to a felon as a felon are they going to be arrested? Lose their job? Have their wrist whacked with a ruler?
Somehow, even in today's climate I think this would not hold up in court if litigated.

I assume that Justice Involved Persons can now vote, whereas Felons could not.

#6, that's a good list; I am beginning to wonder what use is a dictionary and teaching English? I am not prepared to go along with this euphemistic rubbish. A felon is a felon, one who should think about his/her future before becoming a felon. A spade is a spade and always will be. I acknowledge two genders male and female as God ordained, anyone else is an it not an alphabetic salad.

San Francisco, in previous times, arguably, the most beautiful city in the world. I spent my college years in the Bay area and witnessed the ingress of the "hippies" to Haight-Ashbury thus starting SF on its path to today ... just another Democrat run toilet full of doo doo.

I have a family member who is a probation officer in the Bay Area. She just told me that SF is closing their juvenile hall. So not only are they renaming the offenders they are pretending they have no offenders. Now the other counties will have to take the juvenile delinquents.

The dystopia described in the book, "1984" by Orson Wells, has arrived San Francisco. Their plan to replace the words to describe criminals and criminal activity with bland and even nonsensical words or phrases sounds like the "newspeak" of "1984." "Newspeak" was design to hamper or make it impossible for people to describe a problem or voice a protest. This most definitely is what the San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors is up to.
Sometime in the future, "A hate filled individual killed two hundred and six people in a blood bath" may be report as, "An unhappy person did something associated with a kinetic event."
