Paul has noted the comments that President Trump made on the weekend’s two mass shootings this morning. His post embeds a video of the president’s speech, which is 10 minutes long. I recommend that you watch it. It was thoughtful, measured, and, in my opinion, struck all the right notes.
It consisted in large part of denunciations of the murderers and sympathy for their victims. Beyond that, Trump’s comments were notable in several ways.
First, Trump attacked white supremacism without noting that socialism, the doctrine of the Ohio murderer, was equally fatal in this case. That was probably sound from a political standpoint, and perhaps manifests

Yes, it was a very 'Presidential' speech. But he won't receive any credit for that. Not when there's grandstanding to be done and lies to be told, as well as the usual threats and bullying all coming from the left. Nevertheless, Hinderaker does 'hit the nail on the head' in the article thusly: "..the United States does not have a mental health care system. Decades ago, we emptied our mental hospitals.." Quite correct. Now all those former patients are roaming the streets, filling up the homeless shelters, and voting democrat. I, for one, am old enough to remember when we had hospitals for the mentally ill and they were not anything like whats portrayed in hollywierd. The people carrying out these heinous crimes are generally, but not always, young millenials who obviously feel alienated and are angry with the world for whatever reason. The families and friends who want to help, have no where to turn.
We need a serious address on mental health in this country, and we don't need to listen to shrills like O'Roarke and Warren trying to earn votes off the blood of the victims.

Wait and see what the President actually does. He did touch on mental health, and that's where this needs to be addressed. As long as the mass shootings are used as political fodder, nothing substantial will change.

The mentally ill who were kicked to the streets years ago are not the ones pulling these recent shootings. Who IS doing it are disaffected young males who have been fed a steady diet of first person shooter video games with anti-depressants and other drugs. In some cases they are set off by lefty politics, thanks to the Enemedia.

Thriving in today's culture is no slam dunk. There are many strains on all of us. We created some of these strains ourselves but most were imposed by government and social outlets. The typical millennial never lived in a period where the strains did not exist. Their stress began at birth, assuming their stressed mother didn't short them, that is.

Do we trust our mental health professionals, you know, the ones who said our president is unfit? Sure. /s
We need care for the mentally ill and we need care for our culture which has lost its soul, thanks to liberal "experiments"... which NEVER, EVER consider the consequences of their actions.

Good luck with the mental health care system idea. I have a relative who is a paranoid schizophrenic with a lot of OCD thrown in. During one of her psychotic episodes, when she was in her 20's, her parents had to go through the court system to get an order to have her hospitalized.
We are not allowed to just put them in hospitals because their rights supersede ours. Thanks, leftists.

Take your kids to church and go with them. They will learn about God, self-respect, and respect for others. They will be taught that there is good and evil and you must make a choice. They will learn to serve others, not just themselves. It is not a 100% solution but it will go a long way to raising good kids. That foundation is so important to kids when they see society collapsing around them.
I do believe that violent movies and especially violent video games bear some responsibility for these shootings. They glorify killing and desensitize teens to violence and death. That cannot be healthy. There are so many factors that go into creating someone who will kill like this. Their conscience has been seared and nothing good comes when that happens. Furthermore, the culture created by the entertainment industry bears a lot of blame for these acts of violence. How quickly they are to point the finger at guns when they, in fact, create so much violence for the pleasure of their audiences and pocket millions doing it. The atmosphere they create on screen, on video, and in music is extremely unhealthy and they should be held accountable for it and the influence it has in society.

Thank you #7, for saying it best. Since 2015, the US has only focused on drug abuse, and not on the causes of it. That seems funny to me since Lamar Alexander was chair of that committee. Also, in the early 1970s he was Tennessee's governor who opened the doors to the mental institutions to let the patients go home to their families. He probably doesn't see the irony.

The very thought that some Bureaucrat can decide my home should be raided and my guns taken or my life taken is horrifying. What has happened to our right of free speech? What has happened to our Constitution? Have we as a free People came to the point that we are willingly going to let the most sacred Document we stand for be shredded? This President of all People should know who is behind these shootings. It's the slimy Democrat Party . And he caved to their Draconian measures. Nancy Pelosi declared on July 27 to a slobbering crowd of Democrats that their members were going to make it so hot in August that the President would have to pass their agenda. In other words she knew something big was going to happen this last weekend. The video of her speech is on youtube until they take it down. And our President has decided to punish the American People for the deeds of the filthy Democrats. It will destroy his legacy. He must walk back the reckless Statement or risk certain defeat in 2020. Or a certain Rebellion if he enacts such policy.

#6 is correct. Billy and the ACLU decided that the people in mental hospitals rights were being violated. The people were released onto the streets. Takes a heck of a long time to get those that have problems help. Which is wrong. For the person needing help and those that they live with.

I'll tell you what I think. The democrats need these mass shootings and other tragedies. I think there is plenty of evidence that the left does not really care about people. The left uses people. They have used minorities for decades, only to ignore their needs until election time comes around. Then, they make lots of promises to get the votes. They are using illegal immigrants to push their racism claims, but allow those people to suffer at the hands of cartels, coyotes, the sex pimps, and anyone else that can abuse them.
The democrat agenda to disarm law-abiding citizens needs the crazies that shoot up innocent people. They use those people to push the agenda, instead of helping them. Mental health is an issue that needs attention, but democrats would rather have those people on the street.
They enable and accept violence where they think it helps them. Just consider the Antifa, MS-13, and other thugs that the democrats excuse. I include the Hollywood and other celebs who advocate violence against our president.

Donald Trump will never get any credit. Democrats are not good losers so this is all about a smear campaign - any which way they can.

There isn't a proposed idea that won't be used to further erode a liberty.
After instituting background checks a madman still commits murders.
Limit the size of magazines and there will still be murders.
Ban bump stocks - more murders.
Red flag laws - there will still be mayhem - maybe much more because people will resist
Buy-backs (voluntary or otherwise) and there are still crazy people
Promising to stop gun violence is like promising to suspend gravity The pols know this but it's lucrative for them.

Because these tragic events are always politicized, I am tuned out from them. It should be obvious to any honest observer that the perpetrators follow a pattern--most are disaffected young males who are harboring some sort of irrational obsession. It doesn't matter if it is white supremacy, Trump-derangement, homophobia, anti-Semitism, Islamic radicalism, teenage isolation or just extreme anger over being fired. In just about every case, there are signs of instability. We can't depend on the government alone to fix this. Family members, in particular, need to seek help, if possible, for children/siblings who show signs of dangerous instability--isolation, fascination with death and guns, involvement with fringe elements, strange obsessions. Remember the Unabomber? His brother brought him to the attention of the FBI. Those closest to these people are the most aware and most able to avert these tragedies.

So many now who are “morally ill”...
Thanks to the left and their video games and their movies and their public scrools and their influence-peddling lies and editorials and textbooks and their radicals and their abortions and their Antifa....
