Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said on Monday that he will introduce bipartisan legislation encouraging states to create "red flag" laws and that President Trump is "very supportive" of the idea.
Graham, in a statement, said he has reached a deal with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) on a bill that would start a federal grant program to help and encourage states to create " 'red flag' protection order" laws, which are meant to make it easier for law enforcement to identify mentally ill people who should be banned from purchasing guns.

If Trump signs this direct assault by the communists and Graham on our Second Amendment rights the he loses my support.

People have been coming forward. Try it yourself, and listen to law enforcement tell you they really cannot do anything until a crime is committed. The FBI has a bureau full of coming forward reports they are doing nothing about.

Careful with this. It gives the left another lever for stripping us of more liberties. As an example, I could see divorcing wives or husbands claiming their spouse is a threat.

I hear #4 loud and clear. Still, we all know that once the camel's nose is under the tent, and a 'Rat is back in the Oval Office, "red flag" will mean anything they say. Any churchgoer will now be a right wing extremist. You just know it. There are other ways to address the crazies besides bad gun laws. But no one has the guts or the wisdom.

The same people that get you thrown off Twitter and make you lose your job over a comment will now have power to remove your guns. Ponder this very long and hard.

So where is the bi-partisan urgency to do anything about the gun violence killing people every weekend in places like Chicago, Baltimore and DC?

Slippery slope ... prelude to misuse/abuse. Think Russia and how any opposing thought would get you a trip to the mental hospital and no longer heard from.
Treat mental health on its own - enforce the hundreds of gun laws already in existence.

I'm afraid we are boxed into a corner. on this. While I agree with #4 in general, a red flag law would basically be unenforceable. Yeah, divorces...but just imagine the first time someone "reported" a potential problem with a person of color, LBQWhatever, or illegal immigrant.

Right..... this will surely put a lid on every-weekend shootings in Chicago. You think the shooters there bother with gun laws?
And let's talk about all the guns seen in popular Hollywood productions and prime-time network television. You don't think that encourages random shooting?

The trouble #4 is that though such laws are certainly worth considering, the usual rush to "pass something" in the heat of the moment after a highly publicized event such as this frequently leads to bad and/or ineffective law. And when the law proves over time to be either ineffective it will be on to the next item in the gun-grabber agenda.

Another Federal program "to encourage the states...". It's called PORK.
I'm all for "Red Flags", i.e. honestly concerned citizens reporting legitimate potential crimes. What this will certainly enable is harassment. And there lies another issue.

Cancelling an enumerated Constitutional Right is not a trivial thing. If things are bad enough that you must take away a Constitutional Right, then putting the person in a mental hospital is no worse than taking away their Second Amendment rights.

When I look at "Red Flag" somehow I see "Swatting." Remember the case recently, where a man with CWP answered the door with his gun in hand...and the police killed him, because they were answering a 911 call of shots fired?
I could only support this if it contained severe penalties for a false report, reports could only be accepted from a "verified identity" (at least name and address checked) and a false report is eligible for twice the jail time as a person deserving a "red flag."
