President Trump admitted in an interview aired Sunday that he views appointing Jeff Sessions as his attorney general was his “biggest mistake” as president and said if he had a do-over, he would have tapped someone else.
Trump was on NBC’s “Meet the Press” when he made the comment. Sessions resigned last November—just after the midterms—after stark public criticism from the president. It was the height of the Mueller investigation and Trump was openly critical of Sessions decision to recuse himself from the probe in early 2017.

That's okay...he's got Barr now, who appears to actually care about his job and the rule of law.

Hard to say who did more damage. Paul Ryan or Jeff Sessions....

He should have been fired on Day 2. We all know that. When he recused himself, he should have been GONE BABY GONE. Trump was too new and too trusting, but he knows better now.

DHT was asked by the little weasel from MTP - 'If you could have a do-over, and change one thing, what would it be?" DJT, logically, Spock would say, named Sessions, who tried to paralyze the presidency by recusing. (That was the 'insurance policy' discussed by the adulterous couple at the FBI - not impeachment, in my opinion.)
This article, by omitting the question and context, was slightly fake news.

Very unfortunate and unnecessary comment.

Sessions spent too much time in the Senate. Senators get too used to doing very little work for a big paycheck. Over time, any management skills they might have had get rusty or lost.

Indeed it was. I thought at the time that he should not take good conservatives out of congress to fill his cabinet posts.

Sleazy Jeff Sessions was a mole for the swamp. He pulled the wool over a lot of eyes, and lied to Trump during their interview before getting the nomination nod. Then when Trump started making noise about wanting to replace Sessions, Grassley rushed to protect Sessions by rudely telling Trump he had no time to vet a new AG, so Trump had to live with it. I do not put this on Trump, I do put this on Sleazy Sessions and Grassley. Both of them are vipers, and should be exiled from politics.

Funny, we said that too, the day that Sessions was appointed. Trump tried a little too hard to placate the democrats and made things a little harder on himself. The same with putting up with Mueller and his conga line of butt-boys for so long.

I don't know what happened with Sessions. He certainly turned out to be a big disappointment. Whether he intended harm or just focused on the wrong things is something only he knows. What I will NEVER understand is why Trump didn't ask for Sessions' resignation a WHOLE LOT SOONER?!!! It was like the man who spent his entire life saying "You're fired!" couldn't or wouldn't say it in this case!
So while Sessions can is guilty of doing a poor job as AG, in this case, Trump didn't do his job either (i.e., fire him in a timely manner)!

Yeah, certainly was a real error. And now this McAleenan seems to be another major error that needs immediate correcting.
Put Kris Kobach in that position.

#4, one theory is that he is suffering from Alzheimers and really isn't able to do or think anything significant these days. After I read that idea, I have looked at some of the photos of him and he does have a real pie eyed, blank look about him almost all the time. Might be the reason, rapid onset Alzheimers and lots of good Deep State aides to "help him". Maybe.

Re #14, assuming it is Sessions who's getting the gratuitous Alzheimer’s diagnosis, I wonder how many have read the explanation that finally came out about how Sessions ended up being railroaded by the Small Group into recusal and still regrets it? CTH has discussed it more than once and it has been described elsewhere.
Regrets are fine. We move on. Or we wallow. I am seeing some of each. Moving on is a better idea, older and wiser. PDJT doesn’t need us clucking, too.

McAleenan was already at DHS. Is only “acting”. Can be gone in a nanosecond. Kobach may have too much baggage.

Another angle...POTUS saying appointing Sessions was his biggest regret, is actually an apology to Sessions, for how he was damaged by playing his role in the movie.

Thank you #10. We do our country no favor by continually making vague excuses for Sessions (and Grassley too.) It took a Trump to smoke out and expose just who some of these supposedly good conservative, and we are told, Christian Republican Senators really are. Sessions reputation is stained forever and it deserves to be.

Please excuse second post. May I say #12 that President Trump has made enough good and wise decisions, and kept more promises than any POTUS most of us can remember. We are still just learning the intrigue going on from Inauguration on to oust Trump, tthe betrayals and traps laid for him by his own party and God bless him,
he has fought for me and my family through it all. He has earned my trust. He has done his job. Sessions did not.

Sessions wasn't evil. He just wasn't up to the job. And he should have resigned rather than recuse himself from the Russia investigation.
