Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez helped Sen. Bernard Sanders introduce a bill Monday that would forgive all student loan debt, which the lawmaker said is a scourge to working-class citizens. “We are experiencing a systemic and economy-wide threat to grinding our economy to a halt because families and people in my generation, older and younger, are not buying cars we’re not purchasing homes, we’re not building families because of the scepter that student loan debt represents on our generation. It is unjust,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, New York Democrat, said as she joined Mr. Sanders for a press conference at the Capitol

Makes no difference. According to her we are all going to be dead in 12 years and counting. If you choose to get a degree in Ancient Lesbian Art that's your problem. I should not have to pay for it. Nothing is free, we all know that. They want our money to buy votes, to control us, to make us beholden to them for everything. Because they are so much smarter than us. Pay attention voters. And she's an idiot.

If she actually paid money for the education she purportedly received she was totally ripped off.

I worked all through college, didn’t party, didn’t eat out, took extra classes every quarter so I could get out as quickly as possible with little to no debt. I didn’t socialize, I didn’t hang out. I worked. I paid off my debt so I could get on with my life. Who’s going to compensate me for the wild and crazy youth I didn’t have? This whole vote-buying scheme is obscene.

And how did she and the Exalted Bernie decide to pay for this? By taxing the retiremnet accounts of Americans that have worked all their lives to have a decent retirementt. Steal from the middle class to pay for the freeloader class simply to buy votes. And what will happen when these debt free graduate start to pay buy taxing their retirement accounts feel with a lower standard of living on a fixed income.

If it was easier for her to get elected than pay her student loan....then the Repubs should send ALL HISPANIC candidates to be running in her district! Apparently ANYONE can win...as long as you are Hispanic in NY's 14th Congressional District. Just keep bringing up how all the voters AREN'T working for Amazon.

So, she received a degree, but somehow was only able to be a bartender, or whatever else she ended up doing, just not something that related to her degree, and now she gets elected to Congress with $174,000 salary which now makes it difficult to pay off your student loans?
Don't think those hearings by Mad Max weren't without this desired outcome. I know a lot of people were laughing at her for asking each banking executive about their student loan portfolio, and was derided for asking silly questions that each advised they had not loaned money since 2009/10. However, that set up the Fannie and Freddie (quasi-government entities) as the main holder of student loans, which can then be "forgiven".
Yet, I don't believe the IRS will allow forgiveness without it being considered a benefit, and thus, taxable.

I went to the community college, transferred to university near my parents home-lived at home. bought a car, worked- exited college taking only 1k dollar loan.. yes, it was before college cost grew to the overinflated prices now.. however- the path to learning can be much more affordable if Johnny or Susie were more willing to do what I did..

Scepter???? Did she mean specter? And . . . my husband and I---and all our college friends----were poor as church mice when in college. We didn't drive fancy cars---usually furniture and cars were hand-me-downs from family. My husband worked full time in summer and half time during the long term. We went to state universities. We didn't buy clothes, or much in the way of groceries. We came out of college with zero debt----and I got three degrees. Our sons came out of college with zero debt----graduates also of state universities, who worked summers and as many hours as they could get during the long term.
Gosh, I'd be able to buy a lake house if we weren't paying for our car. Forgive me that debt. If I'd known it could be so easy to pay off loans, we'd have whined until the taxpayers paid off our house and our land. Didn't know life could be this easy. No, the young mother working two jobs to support her children should not be footing the bill for the footloose college days of others.

Number 12, I also noted that "scepter" error when I presume AOC meant "specter" in order to show we plebes how erudite she is. Fail.

At least for now, college is not compulsory in America. You do have a choice in where/how you attend, and how much debt you take on. There are smart ways to obtain a degree. AOC represents a "no consequence" way of thinking that is characteristic of the progressive left, and is trying to push that into law-making.

Ally from the valley got elected because everyone in her district thought Crowley was going to win in a landslide so they didnt bother to vote. I suspect that in the next election that district will get rid of the little air headed embarrassment. Lets see how easy it is to get reelected.

Considering the likes of Sheila Jackson Lee, Hank Johnson, Frederica Wilson, Ilhan Omar, et al; getting elected to Congress isn’t saying much in the way of accomplishment.

Instead of forgiving student debt, create an economic policy that CREATES JOBS.
Of course the left doesn't want that. They would rather have people dependent on the government with themselves as masters.

She goes to college for 4 years or so, runs up a huge student debt, and the only job she could get was a cocktail waitress. Strategic planning isn't her forte. Help wanted ads for a BS in Economics must not be a hot item.

She proves my point that college is entirely unnecessary for most of the population. Just exactly like congress. I like a good political joke, but do we have to elect them all?

I never went to college. Had no interest in it and my parents couldn't afford it anyway. Even though the counselors in HS said I could breeze through, they never told me HOW to get to college, or why I should.
My oldest brother did go, and got a respected, useful degree. Hes 65 years old and just paid off his student debt. Meanwhile, I'm a blue collar stubble bum and dont owe anyone anything.

In FL this is called the Puerto Rican whine. Ask anybody. Nobody forced her to go to college. Nobody forced her into debt.
Most of PR was in terrible shape prior to the hurricane because of welfare and free housing, free food, free whatever. Crooked politicians. Look at them now. That's what Chica and Bernie want for all of US. And a raise for them.

If your loans are so high AOC, why did you decide to go to high cost Boston University to become a bar tender who steals tips? You must have gotten a triple A for your success in getting that course down flat.

AOC is the poster child of the absolute folly of giving “free” college education to those who would become fossils and loafers on YOUR dime.
For someone to have “graduated” with a degree in economics, it would appear that either her classes only studied communist socialism or that her shingle was awarded from an institution with extremely low rigor or of almost non-existent standards.

This is a woman who is all for her Green New Deal but still FLIES to her district, when she bothers---from what I have heard she is neither there very often or responsive when she is. This is also a woman who graduated cum laude from Boston College and the best she could do was a job as a bartender, exploding another myth about the value of a college degree and certainly a degree from that particular institution. Why anyone would vote for her next round, especially those who have been harmed by her chasing out Amazon in her area, is way beyond me. She is such a Valley Girl dunce!

One wonders why these young people go into debt to get an education such as that AOC sat through. Evidently they learn nothing about philosophy, economics or common decency. Student loans need to be dropped by the government which will drive down the cost of college and increase quality for those who plan to use their knowledge to improve society, aka doctors, scientists, teachers and historians. . The money should go to trade schools at the high school level.
You don't need to get a BA to make drinks or flip burgers.

Why only "forgive" student loan debt? Why not mortgage debt? Or personal credit card debt?
You could use the same argument that forgiving mortgage/credit card/etc. debt would "stimulate" our economy, but all this is total nonsense and is unsustainable.
This is just more progressive/liberal/socialist/Dim movement towards "utopia," which as we seen in every case (think Dim-controlled cities) ends up in dystopia.
