SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Gov. Gavin Newsom formally apologized Tuesday and pushed the state to reckon with California’s dark history of violence, mistreatment and neglect of Native Americans, saying it amounted to genocide. The Democratic governor met with tribal leaders at the future site of the California Indian Heritage Center, where he also announced the creation of a council to examine the state’s role in campaigns of extermination and exploitation. Throughout history, the California government was key to efforts to remove and kill Native Americans who lived on land that would become part of what is now the world’s fifth-largest economy. “Genocide.

I have been hooked on Gunsmoke lately, and would note the writers tried to balance out the interests of settlers, Indians, drovers(cowboys). In addition, the writers show the conflicts between the Army and the Indians and Locals. Add to that, government Indian agents who were appointed to deal with the Indians, and represent them. Finally, the period right after the Civil War had Northerners and Southerners who were looking for work or forming criminal gangs. Matt Dillon was presented as a U.S. Marshal who spoke some native languages above the conflict, or he shot people, including soldiers, indians, gang members, settlers and cowboys. I realize it was fiction, but the writers struggled with the conflicting interests. During the original run of Gunsmoke, 1955-1975, I missed a lot of the underlying conflicts. That said, did we treat the Indians badly? Yes. And when white men married Indian women, their offspring were treated badly. (Burt Reynolds played Quint, half Commanche, and he frequently found it necessary to beat the snot out of nasty white people. ) Just imagine the suffering and discrimination Senator Elizabeth Warren underwent, growing up a Cherokee. Will Newsom apologize to her?

Recent archeological digs prove pretty conclusively that there was someone here before the 'Native Americans' traveled over the land bridge from Asia. And, those people were not of Asian descent. They are being called Paleo Americans. Never very numerous, they were apparently killed off by the 'Native Americans' early on.

Wikipedia describes genocide as "..intentional action to destroy a people (usually defined as an ethnic, national, racial, or religious group) in whole or in part." Newsom is suggesting the United States engaged in an intentional program of destruction of the Native American Indians in the state of California. That is a complete lie. These clowns toss around these terms while having no idea what they actually mean. Neither the United States or California engaged in genocide against anyone, including the Native Americans. The locals were treated pretty poorly but they sure as heck were not subjected to 'genocide'. What a jerk.

#8 is right. There were people living on this soil before the "native indian" wiped them out with their peaceful living with nature and the peace pipe. Now as for newsom, he should read history. We won the land that is now Kallifornia, and ALL OF MEXICO. After we won the Mexican-American war (1846-1849), most of the land won was given back to Mexico. . And for those that dont know, like newsom, the mexicans started the war. We ended it. We won that land fair and square. newsom best join the USA or just move to mexico that he sems to love more

To our dismay, Newsom is correct but it was not just California, it was the entire country from Canada to Mexico and everything in between. He conveniently left out the part where the Spanish Conquistadores killed, robbed, raped and pillaged every indigenous tribe from the southern tip of South America, the islands of the Carribbean to half-way up the current United States in their quest for gold. Then the Spanish were removed from most of their conquests by the English and others. The world has a long, violent history and this is just one scene out of the whole movie. We can't award reparations to everybody but according to liberal logic, everybody is owed. Yes, Man is a warlike creature.

If you thought that Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s Jussie Smollett fiasco couldn’t get any worse, it quite clearly can. At least for her. But not for the people of Cook County. It was a great day for the people. And it was a great day for retired appellate Judge Sheila O’Brien, who figured, like so many of you, that Foxx’s handling of the Smollett case and her office’s decision to drop the charges against him smelled like the gutters in an alley off the Chicago Way. On Friday, Cook County Judge Michael Toomin ruled in support of O’Brien’s petition that a special prosecutor be appointed to reinvestigate

The Supreme Court is set to hand down its much-anticipated decision on whether the Trump administration can include a citizenship question on the 2020 census. The question has been the subject of multiple legal challenges since it was announced in early 2018. And a courtroom twist this past week added a new level of drama that could affect the Census Bureau’s timeline for finalizing and printing the decennial questionnaire. Opponents of the citizenship question cite studies that indicate it might lead to an inaccurate population count, which would impact the data used to determine congressional representation and the allocation of federal funds to states.

What do Democrats want to do about illegal immigration? Will they ever tell us? Or will they keep emoting about how deeply they care about the issue without ever offering a plan? Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez made a splash last week by referring to the detention centers housing illegal immigrants as concentration camps. Using the rhetoric of “never again,” she drew a revolting false parallel between the Holocaust and an imperfect democracy’s efforts to deal with tens of thousands of illegal migrants crossing our southern border. When called out, she doubled and tripled down.

Trump was on NBC’s “Meet the Press” when he made the comment. Sessions resigned last November—just after the midterms—after stark public criticism from the president. It was the height of the Mueller investigation and Trump was openly critical of Sessions decision to recuse himself from the probe in early 2017.

The left went into a predictable hissy this week after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's comments about his opposition to reparations for slavery. "We tried to deal with our original sin of slavery by fighting a Civil War, by passing landmark civil rights legislation. We’ve elected an African American president. I think we’re always a work in progress in this country.” While the liberal media has been desperate to accuse McConnell of calling Barack Obama's presidency reparations for slavery, if you watch the video, it’s clear that what McConnell was saying—that the election of Barack Obama was a symbolic moment in the progress America has made over the last 150 years.

IDAHO CITY, Idaho — The Wilks brothers grew up in a goat shed, never finished high school and built a billion-dollar fracking business from scratch. The purchase also placed the Wilkses high on the list of well-heeled landowners who are buying huge parcels of America.

The worry last week was that the Trump administration was ginning up fake intelligence about Iran blowing up oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz to justify a war against Iran. Then, this week, President Donald Trump said the Iranian attacks weren’t a big deal. The episode is another indication of the underlying modesty — not a very Trumpian word — of the administration. Subtract Trump’s taste for nonstop controversy and rhetorical brinkmanship, and you’re left with an incrementalist center-right government that has pursued an expansionary fiscal policy and avoided foreign war, for a period of peace and prosperity that — in any other universe — would be at the core

E. Jean Carroll, a longtime women’s advice columnist, has accused President Trump of sexually assaulting her more than two decades ago in the dressing room of a department store. Carroll, who was 52 years old at the time of the alleged assault, makes this allegation in a book she has just published. Young people are growing less tolerant of LGBTQ individuals, a jarring turn for a generation traditionally considered embracing and open, a survey released Monday shows. The number of Americans 18 to 34 who are comfortable interacting with LGBTQ people slipped from 53% in 2017 to 45% in 2018 – the only age group to show a decline, according to the annual Accelerating Acceptance report. And that is down from 63% in 2016. Driving the dilution of acceptance are young women whose overall comfort levels plunged from 64% in 2017 to 52% in 2018, says the survey conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of LGBTQ advocacy group GLAAD.
